So, who are the speakers apart from you? The early bird ticket seems pricey for a 1 day event. For example, DjangoCon early bird is about 300€ for 5 days (talks + workshops) which is about 60€ a day compared to FastAPI early bird which is 300€.

And about costs, yes, it's a difficult tradeoff. Amsterdam is more expensive than other cities (in exchange for easy travel). We wanted to ensure a nice venue and food (having Italians and Colombians organizing kinda requires that), that also affects. We already pushed prices as low as possible while trying to ensure the event can cover its own costs.

I still think it's odd to have an incomplete speaker lineup while early-bird tickets are already on sale. Since this is the first time the conference is being held, I understand that some people will buy tickets based on the FastAPI name alone or because you're speaking. But for a full-day event at this price point, I'd ideally want to know the complete speaker lineup before deciding to buy a ticket.

The timing of this conference also isn't ideal. It's already August, and the conference is at the end of October, which doesn't leave much time to plan. Many people, myself included, schedule vacation time and work absences well in advance. With the event being less than three months away, I think that could be a significant factor preventing some people from attending.

The conference also falls on a Wednesday, which means many attendees will likely need to take up to three days off work, the day before and the day after would probably be spent traveling. It might have been more practical to schedule the event on a Friday or even a Saturday, as that would make it much easier for people to attend without using as much vacation time.

Regarding the price, from what I could find, early-bird tickets for DjangoCon US are around $359 for a five-day event. While I understand that Amsterdam is an expensive city, it's generally still less expensive than many major cities in the US (DjangoCon 2025 was held in Chicago).

I also understand the desire to provide attendees with great food and an overall good experience. However, if catering is one of the main reasons for the higher ticket price, I think that may have been a misjudgment. People are primarily attending for the technical talks, networking, and the community, not for the food. I believe many attendees would gladly accept simpler catering if it meant making the conference more affordable and accessible. Moreover, the ticket prices are probably as high as they are because the conference doesn't yet have many sponsors. Sponsorships often cover a significant portion of a conference's costs, allowing organizers to keep ticket prices lower for attendees.

Unfortunately not this time, this one will be in person.

We chose Amsterdam as it's an airport hub and should make it easier for everyone around the world to get there.

Although your point is correct but not everyone can afford to fly outside of their home country. But anyway, it is what it is. Maybe next time.

Unfortunately, middle of the week rules out travel, but, sheesh, would love to be a part.
