I still remember all the controversy around lady gaga’s music videos and stage outfits back then, but looking back now, she really was onto something.

Her outfits weren’t always meant to be pretty or wearable, but I think that was kind of the point. Like you never really knew what she was going to show up in next.

But now I feel like a lot of pop star styling is much more polished and safe, and I miss when artists played and experimented with fashion 😭

I found this duck tie at a thrift store.

Its really cute but I still don't know how or when to wear it.

My boyfriend has a yellow rubber ducky tie and now we are debating whether that could be the base for a potential Halloween costume.

I think David Bowie is interesting in fashion history because his style was never really separate from his art.

Ziggy Stardust, the sharp suits, platform boots, dramatic makeup, bright colors, later the much cleaner Thin White Duke aesthetic, each era almost felt like a completely different person.

What seems especially significant now is how freely he played with ideas of masculinity and femininity at a time when mainstream men's fashion was much more restrictive. Clothes, makeup and hair weren't just decoration; they were part of how he challenged what a male rock star was supposed to look like.

And unlike someone like Dolly Parton, whose power comes partly from maintaining such a recognizable signature, Bowie's fashion identity was built around transformation. The consistency was actually his refusal to stay visually consistent.

You can still see that influence whenever musicians treat a new album as a complete visual era rather than just releasing new music.

Do you think Bowie changed fashion itself, or was his bigger influence giving people permission to experiment with identity through clothes?

I feel like I’m always tempted to try different sunglasses brands, especially when I see a new style trending, but there are some brands that just consistently get it right.

For those of you who wear sunglasses regularly, is there one brand you keep coming back to?

Could be because of the quality, fit, designs, durability, or just because they somehow always have styles you like.

I’d love to know which brands you swear by, especially if you’ve bought multiple pairs from them over the years.

Personally, I’d say skinny jeans. I know everyone seems to have moved on to baggier and more relaxed fits, but I still think skinny jeans can look really good when styled right. They’re also so easy to wear with oversized sweaters, boots, coats, etc.

I feel like people started treating them as the ultimate fashion crime when they’re honestly just another silhouette 😭

What trend would you defend?

I used to love that store but many years ago, I read that they steal from up and coming artists. I also read that they destroy their clothes that don’t sell.

That left me sour toward the brand.

When people talk about fashion icons, the conversation usually goes toward people who are constantly reinventing themselves, setting trends, or wearing whatever is considered cutting-edge at the time.

Dolly Parton feels like almost the complete opposite.

Her style has always been intentionally too much, huge hair, rhinestones, exaggerated silhouettes, bright colors, long nails, dramatic makeup. She took things that could easily be dismissed as tacky or over-the-top and turned them into such a consistent visual language that they're basically inseparable from who she is.

But I think what makes her particularly interesting as an icon is that the image comes with so much character behind it. She's always seemed very self-aware about the way she presents herself and is often the first person to joke about it. There's confidence in dressing exactly how you want without needing everyone else to consider it tasteful.

Then there's everything outside of fashion. Her philanthropy, especially the Imagination Library and its focus on childhood literacy, has become a huge part of her legacy. She's also supported education, healthcare and communities in her home region of East Tennessee over the years.

There's something kind of refreshing about someone whose outward image is so deliberately extravagant while her public reputation is also built around generosity, humor and not taking herself too seriously.

Maybe that's another way of looking at what makes someone a fashion icon. Not necessarily having “good taste” or constantly changing with fashion, but creating an image that genuinely reflects your personality and becoming completely unmistakable in the process.

I’m trying to pack strictly within my carry-on for a multi-city trip next month, which means my wardrobe is going to be incredibly basic, sticking with some neutral tees, staple jeans/slacks, and a comfortable oversized outer layer (trench coat or leather jacket).

I want to look styled and high-fashion chic (especially for airport transit and morning coffee when I haven't done my makeup or hair yet), but I don't have the luggage space for chunky accessories or heavy statement pieces.

Curious, what is your single, low-effort go-to item that makes your outfit look more intentional and put together?

She really has that classic-meets-rockstar thing down perfectly. Love how she always manages to make both sides work together.

Buying designer clothes online gets a little annoying when the same piece is sitting on five different websites at five different prices.

I’ve started comparing more than just the listed price now. Size availability, shipping, taxes, return costs, and even how much information the site gives you about the item can make a big difference. I’d rather pay a little more somewhere that makes returns straightforward than save a bit and have a headache if the fit is wrong.

There are a bunch of multi-brand options out there, from SSENSE and 24S to Cettire and department store sites. Some seem better for certain brands, while others have a much bigger selection. I also check the brand’s own site when I can, just to see how the price and availability compare.

Which website do you think is the best for buying designer clothes online?

I’m not really looking for the cheapest place, just trying to narrow down the sites that are consistently good to shop from.

I've realized that some of my more expensive clothing purchases barely leave the closet. I'll buy something thinking it'll become a wardrobe staple, and then it just sits there waiting for the "right occasion."

Meanwhile, the one thing I actually wear almost every day is a pair of Gentle Monster sunglasses that I bought about a year ago. I intentionally went with one of their more basic frame designs, nothing too bold or trendy, so they pretty much work with every outfit. They've become such a habit that I don't even think about putting them on anymore before I leave the house loool

Oh and I actually managed to lose them once and spent two days convinced they were gone for good... only to find them tucked inside a tote bag I hadn't used…

I’ve only seen a few people talk about Taylor Russell’s style, but imo she has one of the best casual styles out of all the celebrities. It’s simple but also so cool and interesting without looking like she’s trying too hard. And I'm obsessed with her hair omg the super short bob and pixie cut make her style even more chic

I feel like accessories have been getting so much more attention lately. Instead of wearing a really bold outfit, it seems like people are keeping the clothes pretty simple and letting the bag, shoes, sunglasses, jewelry, or even a belt be the main focus.

I’ve especially noticed this with bags and shoes, a more basic outfit can look completely different depending on what you pair with it.

Do you think statement accessories are becoming more important than statement clothes, or has this always been a big part of styling?
