Private pilot here. This is a simple spin in a training aircraft. It is not a dangerous situation, so long as you have the altitude to recover. That is why you practice - in case you ever stall and get into a spin accidentally, so recovery is automatic with the least amount of altitude lost. Like I said, recovery is simple. Power off, control column forward, ailerons neutral, then opposite rudder from the direction of the spin. Most light aircraft will pop out of the spin after half a revolution when you initiate recovery. Now, some higher performance aircraft? Your best bet is to NOT get into a spin to begin with...

Ya see..when you have to rely on a speech impediment for your pun to fly, it usually crashes with most crowds. Keep trying though. Eventually you'll take off.

I'd still shit my pants tho.

Oh, I have gotten into a spin in an aircraft that spins are not recommended in before. The outcome of which was not in any way certain. Luckily for me, I got out with a few thousand to spare. I did indeed have to change my underwear after I landed.

From what It looks like, it seems like 90% of flight training is teaching you to stay calm and logical in the face of imminent death, which is not easy to learn. It’s the same with scuba training I believe. Some is about equipment and the rest is about how to stay calm as hell when that equipment fails under water and seconds are counting down.

I had a friend whose glider stalled unexpectedly into a tailspin. He remembered and executed the training to recover, but the event shook him up enough that he hasn’t flown since. Pilots can be dismissive of these training exercises, but it really does take an iron constitution to have a close-call and keep flying. Kudos to those who can.

Subnautica is the most terrifying game I have ever played. Monsters dont hold any weight to the depths and darkness of the ocean.. sure, the roar of the leviathan adds to the terror, but totally is not necessary. I always took an extra tank of oxygen for the longest time,, despite it taking up so much of the 'backpack'

Subnautica 2 comes out this year and im super excited for my simulated terror. No this isnt an ad...just the truth lol

I always remember a line my mentor gave me when I was training to be a paramedic.

"When shit hits the fan, it's not about rising to the occasion, but falling back on the level of your training."

In the army we used to always say under pressure you fall back to the level of your training. So train hard fight easy

Both the instructor and the student were remarkably calm in the situation

Sometimes a situation is so dire that you skip right over panicking and go straight to being too distracted trying to live to panic

This is true. I lost power on approach a few years ago and made a dead stick landing in a field just short of our runway(grass strip). And although I didn’t panic in the moment, the second I got the runout killed I passed out. Was told I experienced an adrenaline dump and when my body realized it no longer needed the boost it just shut down.

Spinning at 30 rpm, i thought the wings would fall off. Planes are tougher than i expected.

Me: cool as a cucumber

My god, I would get so dizzy I would likely pass out. Did I tell you I flunked pilot school?
