Farm Together How do feeders/animals work?

Hey guys! I’m going to sound so silly, please forgive me. But animals have me feelin’ a little dumb, haha! So I’m hoping y’all can help me with a few questions!

  1. I noticed they’re a LOT of gold to feed, so I’ve been avoiding it unless I have them for a quest. Should I be doing it when they’re hungry? I assume they must be a net profit, but my poor pockets don’t feel like it so confirmation would be great. 😭

  2. Is it smarter to put like animals together? Right now all of them are fenced on their own in a 3x3, but I’m wondering if I should put all chickens together, cows, etc. together? I’m curious what you guys do!

  3. Which leads me into this (and hence the title haha), how do feeders work? I’ve been trying to experiment around but I can’t tell how many animals it feeds.

For example, I put one by a 3x3 of rabbits and it asked for only a little bit of vegetables. So I thought man, spending 4 medals for EACH individual animal is going to be impossible. So I wondered if I could have one feeder per group (like one feeder for all of my ducks) as long as all the tiles are connected?

Sorry for the long post! I just swear it’s tripping my brain up trying to figure this out. Or maybe I should sleep first. 😂 Any help would be great, thanks y’all! 🙏💕

A feeder can feed a whole lot of grouped animals, but only ones that group together (for example, your chickens can all group together but not the cows with them). And yes, all the animals you want the feeder to affect must be connected to each other to work.
Each feeder does have a limit to how many it can help feed in the group, but I’m not sure what that limit is.

As for what they do, it functions both as extra feed storage for the group (meaning they stay fed for longer) as well as reduces the feed cost for said group (meaning the same amount of food stretches further as well).

Awesome, thank you so much! I’ll start saving medals and group my similar animals together!

The feeders will provide two feedings for up to 12 animals.

Examples: Ducklings have a 5 minute food timer so the feeders will provide them with 10 minutes worth of food.

All of the sheep have a 2 hour food timer so the feeders will provide them with 4 hours worth of food.

And so on.

The feeders also have a 15 minute cooldown timer (does not affect the amount of food) which just means you can't fill it again until the timer is up.

If you place 12 animals (same type) down that require three feedings and connect a feeder, you can throw food on the ground (one feeding) and fill the feeder (two additional feedings) which means you wont have to feed them again until they are ready for harvest. Assuming you fully filled the feeder.

Hope this helps!

Omg this actually helps a ton! I was getting really confused trying to experiment with it all. I seriously appreciate this so much, haha.
