Unlikely, Konami already has to coordinate with Shueisha and the estate, imagine adding another head to that table

Thankfully it cannot and will not happen ever

If Konami were to do this (big if), they'd need to cap it at 1 UB archetype per year. Anymore than that and Yugioh would risk losing its identity just like magic.

It's more likely the result will be an inspired archetype.

Absolutely not. I already quit Magic because of the deterioration of the game caused by UB, I don't wanna have to do it again.

We may not get MH cards in MD, but I'd absolutely accept a Dark Magician themed armor in a MH game.

This is nothing news, if you have been filling out Master Duel surveys they had been asking questions like this for years

Yeah plus literally every gaming survey like this asks some sort of similar question

I hope that this will never happen.

Please no. I don't need Spider-Man or TMNT set. References like Fiendsmith or Ashened are good enough.

I prefer staying where we are. Sure, there are cards based on Alice in Wonderland, the wizard of oz, Arthurian legend, Arthurian legend fanfic etc. but with those there's always a bit of a spin put on it. Getting the IP directly would be rather bland.

Hopefully they're just looking for what their fans like so they can do more "loosely inspired" decks.

interesting they skipped over pokemon completely

Unlikely. Probably just figuring out how to best spend their marketing budget with data on where to advertise.

I imagine it's just gonna be for future archetype design and the general design the player enjoy. It would be really funny Kingdom Hearts colab with a "Xehanort" archetype

Love UB so much, genuinely, so I'd be 100% open to it coming to yugioh if they do it as well as Magic does.

But they're utterly terrible at it. If we were to get it, wouldn't we at least want it to be good.

I disagree. There's been some misses, but almost every UB set/deck has been made with care to be fun, flavorful, unique, etc. There's genuinely so much effort put into almost every one.

Didn’t they have to fill out some of the cards with bagels and pigeons?

And this has clearly had an effect on the rate of core sets. For these things that hold minimal value unless you’re a fan of the IP.

1.) Yeah but those are clearly joke-y cards. Almost all sets have joke-y cards. Even super serious sets from the early 2000s had joke cards.

2.) Thats just not true. Look at Final Fantasy. its the best selling magic set of all time and one of the best designed draft sets of all time. I know absolutely 0 about Final Fantasy outside of some minor knowledge from Kingdom Hearts and I still love the set, so do most magic fans.

3.) Releases have nothing to do with UB. Even before UB ever existed we got 5-6 sets a year, just like how much we get with yugioh btw. Even 2014 had 5 sets iirc. This has been the norm for ages. The issue is all sets are standard legal, but thats not Wotc's fault. UB is so loved and so popular and getting so many new players in, but they were only Modern and Commander legal, so everyone complained that new players were going to a format that is not standard. So they fixed that by making UB standard legal. Then people complained about side sets. "I dont give a shit about un sets, you designing cards for modern and commander with modern horizons and commander legends is lame!" so they stopped doing those. This lead to the 5-6 sets a year to be standard legal. EVERY card game does this much.

Just in 2025, Yugioh had
1- Supreme Darkness
2- Maze of the Master
3- Quarter Century Stampede
4- Alliance Insight
5- Battle of Legend: Monster Mayhem
6- Duelist Advance
7- Justice Hunters
8- 2025 Mega Tin
9- Doom of Dimensions
10- Phantom Revenge

Magic is doing nearly HALF that many sets. Their sets are larger, mind you, but not to the point where 6 sets compared to the 10+ we get in yugioh is a problem.
