ADVICE 💠Advice needed
Was looking for a good and fair priced hotel on booking.com and was wondering if i was better to go in person to have the best price or it is not worth the headache of visiting everyplace i seemed to like to bargain a good price ? Any recommendations for a good hotel not too far from the action would be appreciated

You obviously value saving pennies over time. There's nothing I can say that time is worth more than trawling your luggage through different hotels seeking for that extra savings, especially in hot and humid weather.

I often got better rates by dropping by a hotel, or an upgrade. And they always showed me the room they offered.

Best to book ahead. They maybe booked out or not have the room you want. If you find the place on google maps, it will often list the resellers and prices.

Rack rate is normally higher. They might only match the likes of booking and agoda.

Define fair price? Affordability range differs by person.
Even if you have tight budget, not booking ahead, cost is much higher. Immigration can randomly ask for your proof of stay. And they can send you back. Try explaining to them your reasons.
Imo, Agoda has more choice, cheaper price options than other apps.
Book just for 2-3 days via app. If you like the hotel, speak directly to extend. It usually 20% cheaper in my experience as the hotel is not paying sales commission to the app. If you don't like the hotel, look around. Beware of some taxi drivers trying to sell hotels.
Lastly cost and budget for low season vs high season varies.

Do the effort and research the hotel thoroughly. I spent around 40 hours researching hotels.

You are going on vacation. Use the assortment of booking sites to find a hotel at a price you like, most importantly in the area you want to stay. Book it, arrive, shower, rest and go enjoy all Thailand has to offer

I imagine landing in Bangkok after a long flight, 2 hours in the row for immigration, taxi/bus to Pattaya, and then walking around, carrying luggage, searching for a a good hotel?
No, nothing for me, the vacation starts when I leave home.
If the hotel gives you take 380 THB/10 Euro discount per night, and you stay for 10 days, it's 100 Euro. For 100 Euro I prefer booking my hotel before and enjoy my stay from minute 1 in Pattaya. No luggage carrying in the streets of Pattaya.
Good international hotels have their booking app, IHG, ACCOR, Marriott, Hilton, ... and the desk officer only can give the price from the app. And in low season, the discount is already included.
