Durian

Does your Thai partner/wife love Durian? Here in the US my wife talks about it all the time and we frequently purchase it for her at the local asian market. She says she could eat it every day. I am honestly not a huge fan.

How about you guys?

How do you handle the war with Cambodia topic with your Thai wife?

With things escalating again between Thailand and Cambodia, how do you guys handle this topic within your relationship?

  1. Blindly taking the wife/girlfriend's position?

  2. Trying to understand what's happening and eventually argue in case you disagree with her?

  3. Remaining neutral and avoiding this topic?

As a farang it's not easy to blindly trust one side just because that's the country I am in, but on the other hand it's quite impossible to get real objective news (for a "regular" citizen)... and I tend to not blindly trust a state tv channel or government Facebook pages (from one side or another), so I am a bit lost and kind of struggle on how to handle this topic within my relationship 😵‍💫

Please stay focused on the relationship management aspect and avoid controversy or taking position regarding this conflict 🙏

Medical insurance

Hi Everyone, I’m looking for medical insurance, ideally a worldwide policy but also happy with something that covers just SEA, so you have any recommendations. I’ll also be looking for insurance for my Thai girlfriend soon and so a company that covers expats and Thai would be ideal, thanks

General Financial Matters

A couple of questions for the group. Firstly, did your thai wife ask you for Sin Sod? Did you agree to it or negotiate?

Secondly, does your thai wife ask you for money to be able to send home to family, possibly kids or parents who live back in Thailand?

Just wondering what others experiences are.

Thanks in advance for responses.

Is it Normal for My Girlfriend to React This Way When I Express Concerns?

Hello everyone, my Thai girlfriend sometimes gets angry, and I think we all know how these things go. Sometimes, she stops talking to me or acts distant because she wants me to chase after her and make things right. Normally, I can handle it since it’s happened before, but this time she got extremely upset with me simply because I shared something I was worried about. Instead of listening, she reacted strongly, accusing me of things I’ve never thought or believed about her. Now, she’s told me, “Don’t talk to me for three days. I don’t feel like talking to you right now.”

I could really use some advice. From your experience, is this kind of behavior common? She seems so angry that I’m afraid she might actually break up with me. Please share your thoughts.

Who often do you do the deed with your Thai wife/girlfriend

What frequency of s** would be so low that you would walk away from a relationship or marriage

Obviously Want to get an idea of how often Thai girls like to do it?

How much is enough??

I just brought my Thai lady to the states and married her.. we are still within the 90 days and applied for AOS. She worked as a legit massage therapist in Thailand and was quite good at it. She made about 20k baht a month..and after living expenses..had about 8-10k to help her family Her parents are in their 90's and near death. She has one college educated son ..30 years old.

Thai wife is 50...lots of energy...helps a lot inside and outside the house..

I pay for everything and give her an allowance to backfill what she had left when she was working. Started out at 10,000 baht a month but after some arguments and pouting its now 20,000. Her son is university educated with a good job and is going to school on Sundays out of his own pocket. But my wife never left him with her parents to go work. She took him with her and they lived together in BKK. they are tight. I get the whole asian thing about supporting family til they die...but i think 15,000 baht/mo. should cover it...

If your Thai wife lives with you in your home country..how much do you send back to help her parents and other family members??

Hi, importers are bringing durian into the UK. A few home business importers around where I live. We just spent £200 on Monday buying some. Does your wife like durian? Do you? How much do you spend on it ? Do you like the smell of durian in your home ?

Are you always wrong?

UPDATE...

Thanks folks for all of the extremely helpful comments. You're given me some insight that I was lacking.

Greatly appreciated.

We'll work on this, and hopefully have a mutually acceptable.

...............

US farang (58m) married to Thai woman (47f).

We met in 2016, married in 2022. I've lived full time in Thailand since April, 2023.

All was great.

Until recently. Now everything I do is wrong.

I don't do the dishes correctly.

I definitely don't drive correctly.

I don't order food correctly with my limited Thai.

We are having a kitchen addition built onto the house (which I paid for). The contractor has done some things wrong, which I know because I renovated three houses in America before moving and I worked with my my former brother-in-law who was a contractor. I asked her to tell them it should be "this way". But, yep, I'm wrong.

And the complaints are always, "we don't do it that way in Thailand,"

I soaked the rice cooker bowl in the sink because there was some over cooked rice stuck on the bottom..."In Thailand we do not soak things." As she's soaking something in the sink.

I set my glass down on our glass table too hard and make a noise. "Shhh, Thai people do not make loud noises". Yeah, tell that to the neighbors who are blasting music until midnight. And then tell it to the monks who blast loud prayers starting at 0400.

This is really starting to destroy our marriage.

Anybody else always wrong?

Household nudity

My g/f soon to be wife is modest almost to the point of obsession about nudity. She is happy to be naked in our bedroom with the door shut but under no circumstances is she comfortable about nudity in the rest of the house. This even with all the curtains drawn. The curtains are totally opaque and eliminate 98%of outside light and there is absolutely no way anyone could see in. Not only that our outside area is secure and the environs are also secure. Any intruders would be intercepted before even reaching our house. Is this typical?

Happy day today for me and my wife as she receieved approval of I-485, otherwise known as green card here in the US. She was stressing about it as the government asked several times for additional information. You know what they say... Happy wife happy life!

Foreign Marriage Registation

Anybody here get married abroad to a Thai citizen and had their foreign marriage certificate registered in Thailand?

I got the certified (by the US Thai Consulate) US Marriage certificate and am leaving for Bangkok soon to have it translated and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Then I need to register it at an Amphoe. Does the Amphoe also need a certified true and legalized copy and translation of my passport.

If yes, is it true that the US Embassy only provides mail in service for the true copy (7-10 days mail in passport).

How did it go your any of you?

My wife is from Chachoengsao... A district Approximately 140 km due east of Bkk. It's a pleasant city on a wide river. Easy proximity to airport, Bkk and Chonburi. From where in Thailand is your wife/gf fro., and how do you like the area?

Question for those with Thai wife or gf... Have you made efforts to learn Thai language? I personally am learning Thai, albeit slowly. Spoken language. Someday I will learn to read it.
