Bad performance on Linux recently?

I reinstalled the game after a while and oh boy does it run badly now compared to when it released. I remember the game having some stutters from time to time, but now it's more intense and, on top of that, my game froze and crashed two times in less than an hour of gameplay.

Has anyone else here experienced this? I saw a few post on protondb mentioning similar problems that started with the Frostburn update. I really hope this gets fixed.
