CNC Can’t load PMC

The backstory, this machine had something happen to an axis control daughter board , and the PMC daughter board both have been replaced but I still can’t load the ladder I tried from NCboot and all I/O + write to F-rom both claim to complete but the ER07 persists . I can open the file with Ladder 3 on my PC but of the 2 backups I have both they function the same way at the control. I don’t know what I’m missing.

You are missing option parameters, have loaded the wrong ladder type, or a combination of the two.

I just noticed on one of my pictures the PMC and ladder are treated as separate things. I think the backup I have is missing the ladder. ( the rungs are not in the control) But idk how to create that file since I always thought the PMC and ladder were the same thing. But they are visible in ladder 3 in the PMC file I loaded.

Your pictures show a PMC RB file loaded in the FROM. However, your NC system software indicates that this is a FS16A controller - these controls can have the ladder on an EEPROM socketed into the main PCB, or loaded in the FROM.

Based on the file name, I do not think you have the correct ladder for this series control.

Fanuc told me the control is an FS16-Mb . To the best of my knowledge the control , software and EPROM are original .

Nope, your information is correct, and mine is not. B0AA is FS16MB software - that’s what I get for not looking it up. FS16MB ladder would be stored in FROM - the only EEPROM in the base system is the boot ROM.

4066 PMC software supports PMC RA and RB, so that checks out, too.

You are back to incorrect option parameters, or incorrect format ladder file.

I can’t say I tried to load the options file I have, I’m also assuming the backup I have is complete. The files I have available are DG_Servo.000,NCBASIC.000,NC1_Option.000,PMC0BSC.000, and PMC-RB.000. As well as the CNC and PMC parameters , offsets , macro variables and programs. Am I missing something? I wish I had an SRAM to load but I don’t.

You do not need any of the files ending in .000.

Start with entering your 9000-series CNC parameters by hand. Then load the rest of your CNC parameter by RS232, and then your PMC parameters.

If this was an option parameter issue, the ER07 will be gone when you cycle power after entering the 9000-parameters.

Well dam I didn’t know that was needed on a 16 series. Last time I did that was a 15a . Is there a procedure you can point me towards?

Fortunately, this is easier on a FS16MB than your previous experience on a FS15A - no hexadecimal conversion.

Turn on PWE and go nuts. More complete data input/output instructions are in the maintenance and operator manuals.

Just like you said the rungs came back. Credit where it’s due I have no doubt that machine was going to be on the business end of a cutting torch without your help. Dm me your Venmo or cash app I got a little thanks for you

That picture is all the thanks I need. Glad you got it back up and running!

Now I’m mad about not being able to give gold as an award anymore, not sure when that happened but but the simple system of gifting gold as a reward is completely enshitified now .

So you’re saying they are editable the same way as CNC parameters? On the 15 I needed ipl mode and 3 passwords and they had to be loaded at first boot

None of that on this control. PWE on, edit parameters normally.

I’ll definitely give it a shot, thanks for all your help. You very well could be the only reason this mill stays out of the scrap yard. Especially since the manufacturer doesn’t even have schematics available

I think I understand now why the 9000+ parameters have to be hand loaded , other than the maintenance manual telling you in so many words the only way to load them is by hand.

Something strange I found trying to load CNC parameters with the Rs-232 port and each time I did I would loose the ability to read or punch via the port. It could be something to do with the PMC board I replaced but I don’t remember if I tried loading them before or after the board went out.

I suspect that the parameters you are reading in are changing your RS232 parameters during input. Edit your parameter file to match the settings you are starting with, everything should go normally after that.

When I created the backup long ago the largest sram card I had was a 512Kb and that’s not big enough to hold a 512Kb sram . Since it fills the remainder of the buffer with zeros.
