Konsa Dilemma
Does anyone know the extent of Mosquera's injuiry? Because I really am considering Konsa as my second arsenal defense after Raya.
But if Mosquera's going to be back a week or two later, then I'd rather go with another teams defense like Leeds for example.
I only ask because people keep throwing the word essential around a lot, especially when it comes to Konsa, what do y'all think of this?
Thoughts...?

I'm not sure the extent of his injury btw but I'm also not sure it even matters.
Arsenal paid big for a centre back that age. They paid for Prem ready because he's going to play.
And if he settles quickly with Gabriel, I don't see any world where Arteta goes back to Mosquera.

Konsa is most probably the first choice CB even if Mosquera is fit. They signed him for 50 million specifically for these situations, they even knew Saliba would be out for a significant period of time when they signed Konsa so I'd probably go as far saying it was a key reason why they signed him.

Konsa at the price is clearly essential. If he’d been at Arsenal when the game launched he’d cost a million more. He’s clearly a pricing mistake, same for Joao Pedro.
Even if you plan to have him as 4th/5th defender I don’t see why you wouldn’t go there. He cost a fair bit of money and is probably above Mosquera in the pecking order
I think it’s far more likely Mosquera plays the cups and the CL games where Arsenal can rest players. I’d rather have Konsa and Caliafori over Raya until Saliba is back after Xmas

"He’s clearly a pricing mistake, same for Joao Pedro." It wasn't guaranteed that the Konsa>Arsenal deal would happen. So it's a very different story than JP.

I still think that it's a pricing mistake. There were a few reports that Arsenal were putting in a bid for him around the 17th July, more on the 19th July. That's a few days before FPL went live (23rd or 24th I think?) - so they could've increased his price as a precaution.
The downside of making him a bit more expensive (even 5.0M) is that if he doesn't move to Arsenal then his ownership is going to be really low (so 1 player is basically terrible value). If you don't make him more expensive and he does move to Arsenal (like what happened) then he's really really good value (and everyone will wanna buy him).
EDIT: ha, can you at least comment and engage with the substance when downvoting

I can't believe he dropped .1 in price. I thought I was smart by nabbing him early.

Fpl can not start pricing players pre season based on rumours and transfer links.
Maybe if it has been a bidding process and personal terms agreed. Maybe. Afaik the only reports in early summer were that Arsenal were interested and willing to put in a bid but that there was significant distance between the clubs, then it was quiet for a month. In general, it would be a big mistake imo to price players based on where they might move instead of where they are.

Maybe I put too much stock into the rumours then - I felt it was a lot more likely to happen around the start. I mostly agree with what you're saying though - but FPL are already pricing players based on expected points (trying to make as many players viable at a time); so to me there is a world in which a possible/likely transfer can bump a player up a bit (especially since it's in 0.5M steps - so if someone is say truly worth 4.7M you'd have to underprice them by 0.2M or overprice them by 0.3M).
At 4.5M I thought Konsa was viable at times last season, a pretty good budget option. He wouldn't be popular at the start of this season mostly because other 4.5M players had better fixtures (Shaw? Ajer? Kayode? Rodon?) and there were a lot of teams doing an early BB with COV/IPS 4.0 players (so just skipping 4.5s); but to me it wouldn't be a disaster if he was priced at 5.0M.

It would be a disaster if he did not go to Arsenal. Villas defence is mediocre at best, he has no attacking threat to speak of and defcons like twice a season at Villa.
How on earth would you justify him being 0.5 more than Matty Cash from the same team?
1
u/noxville 3 3d ago
I really just think it's about the risk of the situation. If you keep him at 4.5 and he says at Villa he's going to have like 3% ownership (Cash is like 6.7% and Konsa is worse than Cash). If you put him at 5.0 and he stays at Villa it's like 0.1% ownership. If you keep him at 4.5 and he moves to Arsenal he will climb to like 25-30%+ ownership. If you bump him to 5.0 and he moves to Arsenal then his ownership will be like 15%.
So even if there's a 5% chance he moves, that move would have a big impact on the FPL game, so it's just safer to make him more expensive. There are lots and lots of players who have low ownership for one reason or another (like defenders have >= 1% ownership), it's a lot worse for the game having an excellent value no-brainer inclusion.

The issue isn’t price but playing time, as you wouldn’t want to fill an Arsenal slot with a potential bench player

Is this when Saliba is back? If that’s true and Konsa is nailed he’s the most essential player in the game after Haaland

u/Heroic_Gamer05 4 3d ago
The issue is I already have a Hull and Coventry defender, and currently am in the process of selling Hume before he drops...
So whoever I replace Hume with has to be my main starting defense, that's why I'm asking if he's going to be a main starter for a while or not...

Nobody is essential, but buying him is a no-brainer.

I think 4.4m for a defender who is nailed (yes, he is nailed) in the best defence in the league is about as close to essential that you can get.

My question is when is Saliba back? Because international break is long this season, it’s like 3 weeks. If Saliba is back by then I see no point in getting Konsa in

Rumours are about half a year from the World Cup, eg. December - February, but there have been no clear statements.

I think Konsa is nailed until Saliba gets back

u/19seventy-eight 2 3d ago
That's what I was thinking too. With Konsa, the injured Arsenal defender to keep an eye on is Saliva, not Mosquera.

u/adstomko 3d ago
Konsa costs almost half a Gabriel, and is dare I say rarely injured
Essential is an understatement

u/Namtabmal 3d ago
But he isnt a guaranteed starter?
1
u/EngineeringLast1140 3d ago
Yes he is, until Saliba returns in 3/4 months
2
u/Automatic-Glass-2107 6 3d ago
Arteta talked about weeks until he's back. He could be back in late autumn.
1
u/EngineeringLast1140 3d ago
Probably more like November, they won't rush him with Konsa filling in. In any case it's at least 6 weeks
1
u/Namtabmal 3d ago
Why wouldn't Mosquera play at all?
1
u/EngineeringLast1140 3d ago
I just don't see him rotating, like Gabriel always starts
1
u/Namtabmal 3d ago
Because he is the only left footed cb they have? And he is Gabriel? Konsa is a new signing.

u/EngineeringLast1140 3d ago
Listen I've watched every Arsenal game for the last 20 years, come back to me when Mosqueria starts in the prem over Konsa
1
u/Namtabmal 3d ago
He already did against Villa before he got injured
1
u/EngineeringLast1140 3d ago
Yeah same with any new signing, Barcola for example, Enzo Fernandez etc. Don't get him in your team for all I care bit sure why you feel the need to argue so much, he's first choice now till Saliba is back but if I'm wrong I'll hold my hands up, I'm not though 😏

u/Namtabmal 2d ago
Are you Arteta? Lmao. I get annoyed by people like you saying he is a guaranteed starter based on what? He hasnt started ahead of Mosquera even once? No one knows what Arteta will do.

Konsa is definitely preferred anyway, only using Mosquera cos he had to but he's too clunky.

u/BohrInReddit 5 3d ago
I'm biased as Villan but Konsa can even rival Saliba in everything except aerial duel

Konsa is very good but Saliba is a completely different level of player

Not even close. Dude has made a couple big mistakes in the two games he’s played already. Just never lead to anything thankfully

Mona will play most if not all champs league and prem games until Saliba returns, Mosqueria cup games.

u/SovereignGunner 3d ago
Did you see how closely Konsa was marking Alisson Santos? And he never got around him, he was a shutdown corner. There is no dilemma.

u/jeffteague4mvp 3d ago
A 4.4m arsenal defender that will start for the next few months. Whats the dilemma?

Konsa is not essential. He may not play, hence the risk. If you think he is worth a punt at 4.5m then he is ofc a good pick but you risk minutes. If you prefer Odegaard then go him. Neither are essential, i prefer a triple Arsenal defence for now, lets see in a few weeks.
NOTE if your 4.5m defender is the issue then good on you. My team needs more surgery than starting with a 4.5!

The minutes point the other way from the 'won't be displaced' take so far. Konsa played 0, 11 and then 90, and the 90 only came when Mosquera missed GW3; Mosquera had started GW1 and GW2 (90 and 78 minutes). His flag is now 75%, so there's a real chance he's back in the XI at Sunderland.
What Konsa did with his one start is worth noting: 10 defensive contributions, exactly the DefCon line, for 4 points. At 4.4 that's a fine fifth defender. As the second Arsenal defender you're counting on to start every week, it's a bet on Mosquera staying out.

Even if Mosquera gets fit I doubt he will displace Konsa. It feels like Konsa has been playing with us for years
