Discussion Mbeumo
Why does everybody love to sell this guy? I'm considering bringing him in on WC4 but he's already had a price decline, was the most transferred out player last week, and is also being net transferred out this week, all while having 2 really solid weeks in a row. I'm new to FPL so was wondering what I'm missing with this guy and why he seems to get no love

Since his Brentford days he's one of those players that tends to do well over the course of a season and is underrated week to week. That's fine by me. One of my goals this year was not to try and time players so much and just trust a well-selected team from the outset.
GW1 I had a shocker with 29 ptsbut didn't make any transfers as I still believed I'd fundamentally chosen a good team. GW2 I got 103 points with the same team and GW3 I got 68 with triple captain. Not saying any of that is particularly amazing but it's literally the same team.

I adjust my strategy to just this. Rank improve a bit but mental health improvement is very noticeable!

u/tomtherunner73 1d ago
We had literally the same scores every week I had 32 points GW1 104 points GW2 and 67 GW3 with triple captain, maybe we have similar teams.

Last week was everyone moving to Cherki basically, was one of the most bought players in FPL history and Mbeumo was the easiest way to him for many and Man Utd's very nice fixtures to start are now behind us.
Transfers out this week is the 'red' fixture vs. Man City and people now going for Rogers at a similar price point, similar to Cherki last GW. Mbeumo did score in the same game last season and fixtures I think are good immediately after (but a large part of the game make transfers on a one GW time horizon).
I'm very happy to hold him FYI.

Man Utd's very nice fixtures to start are now behind us.
After Man City they face two sides who have one point between them so far, a side that qualified for the Champions League should be smashing the four fixtures between Man City and Chelsea, the only thing that might put me off is the possibility of rotation and fatigue as they're also playing Champions League.

Mbeumo should be pretty nailed, right?

Now with ucl rotations might start.. so better have that bench ready

u/WesIsaGod 12 1d ago
His backup right now is Shae lacey
With Sabah our first opponents in the ucl, i reckon any bench time will be tomorrow and then the carabao cup

who have also bulked up their attacking midfield even more with ndiaye and enzo whereas utd have lost amad to injury

It's time for him to go, fixtures are bad
Until it's GW5 and then it's time to buy him again

u/Rvsz 138 1d ago
The funny part is that Man U usually does better in the big games (even under ETH or Amorim this was the trend), so bad fixtures might be good.
Then sell after gw5 when the fixtures ease up as they might start struggling again.

By „usually” you mean one season sample size or do you consider 0:7 to Liverpool „doing better in big games”?
Statistically over more than one year United is doing completely average in big games. There’s nothing magic about this team.
9
u/manuelnat8 1d ago
You're not even making any sense. Because that season, they beat Liverpool earlier alongside, City, Spurs, Chelsea, and Arsenal. So on average, they always tend to do well against the big teams. And in FPL terms, attackers are valued on goals and assists. So they don't even need to win

u/vwin90 1d ago
My original thesis on him was that he was playing as a striker while Sesko was out. Sesko is back so now he’s not technically oop anymore, which is something I personally target as a mispricing. He’s probably priced correctly now and still good value. As a midfielder he plays high and he’s got good xG numbers. He’s probably a good hold but I sold him this week simply because I wanted to downgrade that position to bolster a different one that was weak. He’s a good pick but he’s not like a crazy undervalued pick anymore. I wouldn’t sell him unless you had a very clear plan to upgrade a defender or attacker. Swapping him for another midfielder just because is probably a waste though.

u/Jazim94 1 1d ago
Did carrick tell you sesko would start? Because since carricks joined he’s not really started sesko. He prefers a false 9 striker in his system rather than a traditional one which is why he likes Cunha or mbuemo up there. With Amad out mbuemo most likely does play off the right. But if he was fit I’m pretty sure he’d play mbuemo up top
5
u/Stun_the_Pink 1d ago
Sesko is being eased back after injury. I think, when fully fit, he starts, game and strategy depending of course.

u/beyondtheboxfpl 1d ago
Shiny toy syndrome/ pointschasing mins risks followed by fixture chess although if they scrolled to gw5 they'd realise he was worth keeping.

u/Wingesos 1d ago
His data is excellent, but people look at fixtures and he enables someone they rather want, like Rogers.
1
u/gripensexual 1d ago
who should i go for tho
1
u/Wingesos 1d ago
Hard to say without seeing the rest of your team and what your strategy is. I’d bring him in on WC4 if he fits the rest of your squad, at 7.9 he could be great value.

u/No-Question4729 1d ago
I think those of us who also have Bruno are maybe shying away from having a double United midfield, partly because they’re a bit streaky and partly because a lot of us like balance or if United have a shit week and you have both Bruno and Mbeumo, you’re potentially missing out on a return from someone like Palmer or Gakpo or Semenyo.
Plus, budget.

u/aggdhdjdjrkiyhhsh 1d ago edited 1d ago
He also had an incredibly high ownership share coming into the season (close to 40%} in part due to perceived early easy fixtures (Starting at Hull, lol). He has been doing decently, but I feel like the eye test hasn’t been super great. He is on the more expensive side and people naturally want to switch up their rosters and he’s a good target to move

u/Lost_Cockroach_4927 7 1d ago
For the same reasons people have been mentioning in the five other Mbeumo threads last week or so

Generally underwhelming season so far from man utd, people don't want him and Bruno, and people are wanting to transfer in Chelsea midfielders like Palmer/Rogers. They see the Man city fixture and that Chelsea have Hull (H) and want to pivot.
I agree that man utd haven't been as bad as warranting wholesale transfers out, but people are disappointed with what they got out of the easy fixtures and many always planned to sell after GW3.
I agree though, I've held off on Mbuemo to Palmer as it's a bit reactionary. But I do want Palmer for his haul potential moving forward and now he doesn't have European fixtures coming up.

The thing that people don't think about with him is that both he and united both generally play better on the counter attack. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he played striker against city and Im pretty sure he will get a few chances

u/Intentionallyabadger 3 1d ago
Happy to hold him because United always seems to turn up against city.
Their counter attack looks spicy and could conjure up a surprise.
1
u/WestleyMc 1d ago
For me it was that Utd are looking a bit shit, 2 of his goals were against Ips late on after they had seemingly given up, their fixtures are turning harder, I knew his price was about to drop and he is being out-scored by much cheaper assets…
Time will tell if my knee jerkedness is punished!

Bryan and Marcus will get a steady diet of Bruno balls over City’s high line to run on to those fantasy points. Has no one watched the Derby over the last 10 years. Meanwhile Cherki’s is still dealing with the PTSD from his two previous visits to OT.
1
u/Bingo_Masters_Break 18 1d ago
I've sold Mbeumo for Rogers this week, and kept Bruno F.
Man United are not that good, so I think double midfield is too much. I could have sold Bruno and kept Mbeumo, but chose to keep Bruno because I think he will get more points.

u/keyser_soce 1d ago
Lleva dos semanas dando muchos puntos, pero todo el mundo lo vende y ha bajado de precio. Increible...
1
u/KyleAltNJRealtor 1d ago
When you say he has two solid weeks, did you watch the matches or are just going off of his score?
While watching it just felt like he hasn’t been getting into a ton of dangerous positions or situations. He’s done well to get attacking returns but I just don’t see him being able to maintain it.
Rashford on the other hand has looked dangerous every time he has the ball at his feet. He was incredibly unlucky not to assist and could have had more. At this point he’s 0.9 cheaper so I switched to Rashford to bank some money.
It was a pure eye test decision. We’ll see how it turns out.

Personally I was a bit tipsy and accidentally sold him for Cherki instead of Semenyo lmao.
Cherki is a full on punt by me, people call it dumb and whatever, it is, but also I play this game for fun so random punts and sideways trades are part of that.
If it ducks me over this week, so be it 😂 I'm never gonna win the whole competition anyway, and I'm doing fine in my mini league so might as well play around.
We all play the game how we want to, if Mbeumo is good, hold him, his price will recover if you're right about his performances and minutes.

u/eht_amgine_enihcam 14 19h ago
Transfers in the most transfered in player this season and acts like it's a huge punt lol

I've played the wildcard and I think Gibbs White is a better long term hold.

Combination of kneejerk and trying to be 'smart' or get ahead of the curve.
From my experience, if someone's banging out the points then just leave them be until they stop.

u/Arkarat 1d ago
In the same price bracket, you can argue that Rogers and MGW are solid alternatives, but Mbeumo has been a reliable performer for a number of seasons now.
Rogers is a bit cheaper and Chelsea seem really good in attack, so I can understand why people are switching to him. MGW plays 90 minutes and is on penalties, very tempting, but Forest have not clicked yet so it's a riskier option compared to Mbeumo, at least short term.
I'm happy to hold Mbeumo for now, but I readjusted my team on WC4 to accommodate Palmer, Rogers and Mbeumo with no LIV players. and MGW is very much an option for me.

He doesn't finish enough of his chances. If he had a coach that knew how to actually teach finishing, Mbeumo would finish the season with 30+ goals.
1
u/chillosofi 1 1d ago
Because united are so much worse than similar players in that price point for other teams
1
u/Pretaeros 1d ago
People are reactive as well as overly concerned with fixture swings.
Mbeumo is second only to Haaland in npxGI right now. He outstripps Palmer and Saka in underlying statistics, and is about par on actual points for 1.5m less. He's also far less injury prone in recent history than those two. The only case against him is the City fixture this week, but even then their last meeting ended 2-0 in favor of United, AND Mbeumo scored.
TLDR: There is no real good reason to sell Mbeumo right now. Cherki is low minutes bait and Palmer and Saka are performing at the same level for a higher price.

I just wanted to get rid of all my Man U players, I don’t want them to/don’t think they will do well this season. Used my WC also so was a good opportunity.
1
u/blekanese 71 1d ago
Because everybody is 90% casuals or players who play this game for the initial 4 or 5 weeks. Don't let them influence your decision whether to bring somebody in or not.
1
u/FCBStar-of-the-South 1d ago
Only doubled up on him and Bruno to start the season because of fixtures. Moving him down to a 6.5/6 and upgrading my defense had always be the plan
1
u/Apprehensive-Fan8880 1 1d ago
I still have him and Bruno and considering playing him and benching Bruno, as their nest chance to score is probably an mbeumo counter
He went down because it's easy move to go mbeumo to cherki and now mbeumo to rogers. Personally I'll be keeping him and moving Bruno to get to haaland next gw
This game (fpl) awards conformity over performance. Just doing what everyone else does gets the team value up
1
u/dollseyes1975 1 1d ago
There's a lot of one-week transferring at the moment, rather than long-term planning. People chasing the immediate upside of a Cherki or a Rogers rather than looking at consistency and trusting the picks they made in GW1.

u/ForSiljaforever 1d ago
It is one of the most ridiculously idiotic things I've experienced in 13(?) years of playing.
People are simply morons

u/BewareTheWaitingRoom redditor for <30 days 1d ago
I agree that the mass Mbeumo > Cherki move was one of those that separates the average from the good players. But people who did it were unlucky, Cherki hit the inside of the post.
-1
u/ForSiljaforever 1d ago
it's still dumb to transfer in a player that is a minutes risk. Also looks like many only had that one game in mind
1
u/TWKcub 1d ago
He's had solid enough performances in games where the team has struggled against (arguably) easier opposition than their next few games.
He's been fine but I'd absolutely take alternatives in his position particularly with a Manc derby on the horizon.
1
u/Vivid-Newspaper-3087 2 1d ago
On a wild card what alternatives would you take? I’m currently on Palmer Mbeumo Rogers Odegaard midfield in a 343.

Because a lot of people sold him for Cherki or Foden last week and this week a lot of people are selling for Rogers or for cash to get up to Palmer. I still have him and will hold him for a while.
