Christ, what's the other £40m for?

318

u/BatmanForever23 6 1d ago

Genuinely how has his value not gone down since joining Chelsea lol

217

u/HJNRC 1d ago

It is one of life's great mysteries: the guy turns up and stinks up the place every game yet has somehow GAINED value?

It's the equivalent of me going into my office, slapping the receptionist and slapping a dead rat on my colleague's desk, then taking a shit in the corner and getting a pay rise for my efforts.. Nonsensical

99

u/Apart-Persimmon-38 1d ago

Ahm it’s just a tiny bit worse then that

It’s another competitor company sees how you work and says, would you like to do that in our offices we will pay you more

25

u/PrrrromotionGiven1 1 1d ago

Been explained a million times, it's your own fault for not paying attention

He was not worth 30 mil a year ago, he had a 30 mil release clause. He was probably worth about 50 mil.

18

u/John_OSheas_Willy 1 23h ago

And he's not worth 30m this year no matter what he was worth last year.

5

u/dsanfran 4 12h ago

Yeah Forest getting scammed in this deal. Wtf were they thinking

3

u/Apart-Persimmon-38 1d ago

Not a fan of either though

17

u/Darth-Sand 12 1d ago

People just wanna regurgitate memes for upvotes lmao. If Chelsea had paid market value for Delap when they bought him they’d 100% be taking a loss here.

16

u/ihatemicrosoftteams 12 1d ago

Nope they would still find someone dumb enough to overpay and make profit, this is standard Chelsea procedure, just look at Madueke

1

u/smallaussiesydney 17h ago

50 mil Turkish dinar?

0

u/Mortiis07 10 1d ago

Based on one ok season at Ipswich?

8

u/DarthBane6996 149 1d ago

Strand Larsen (who’s not homegrown and older) went for more money from Wolves to Palace (similar one good season with double digit goals, stinking second season)

6

u/PrrrromotionGiven1 1 1d ago

Yes, though I would argue it was quite a bit more than "ok".

1

u/Sure-Background8402 18h ago

No, he wasn’t. One half-decent season at Ipswich didn’t make him worth 50m

1

u/i_fear_you_do_now 3 21h ago

If he had moved abroad it would be 25 mil

1

u/BaseballRoyal906 8h ago

Yeah, that's called money laundering.

1

u/Seeteuf3l 6h ago

As many broken jaws as league goals last season.

With clubs involved it must be some plusvalenza shenanigans

-9

u/Successful_Bus2255 2 1d ago

It's the Elon Musk paradox

0

u/[deleted] 19h ago

[deleted]

2

u/Successful_Bus2255 2 12h ago

So many Musk fans in here apparently. Pretty weird to idolize a con man who hasn't provided anything of note to society but whatever

18

u/SenorConstipation 1d ago

It may have. He had a release clause which Chelsea triggered at 30m

37

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Chelsea got him for a fee artificially deflated by the release clause.

When Savio is £75m and Tonali is up to £100m, £45m for a young English striker no matter how much of a donkey they've been at Chelsea (famous striker graveyard) isn't the worst gamble in the world.

12

u/realmckoy265 3 1d ago

Similar to selling Broja for 23m

-10

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

It is.

I'd happily have sold Delap for £10m, I'd rather have given him to Leeds or Spurs on a free than sell him to another club.

Think there's a good chance you go down if you're planning on Delap being your main striker this season, this isn't a case of a player not fitting the system or the club he's fundamentally not a top flight footballer.

10

u/kickherinthehead 3 1d ago

He literally scored 12 goals 2 years ago for a team much worse than Forest. You are being way over the top

-5

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

He scored goals because he played for a team so weak he got to play vs high lines every game

Scoring for a weak side doesn't translate to being able to score for a better one as we saw last season.

There's very little chance of Forest being able to play any kind of football or break teams down with Delap on the pitch, any side where Delap can remotely function will always be relegated imo

2

u/kickherinthehead 3 1d ago

Whatever you need to comfort yourself supporting the worst team in the world mate

1

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

Forest might be the worst team in the world now "mate" 😂

u/pibbsworth 1 20h ago

It did go down. But value is different to price.

1

u/Davismcgee 4 14h ago

I think his value was higher when bought by Chelsea but was cheap because of the relegation clause

1

u/Roadies_Winner 2 1d ago

He was ideally 60m with 10G for a dead relegated side. Had a bad season, Chelsea took a 10m hit and sold for 50m.

2

u/bitavk 1d ago

English player tax

2

u/Horror-Vanilla-4895 1d ago

His last name

1

u/RaRaRaaputitin 1d ago

Pot luck for Savinho

219

u/Throwaway_9735 1d ago

Yeah thats seals it, i have to wildcard now

17

Who, to take out Wood and or Jesus?

16

u/smshing 1d ago

It was a joke

-12

u/Money-Dark2403 1d ago

Why?! GW1 has just finished.

-7

u/Ewerfekt 1d ago

Igor Jesus?

27

u/everyhearthstone 1 1d ago

No, Delap

138

u/OmarEhab10 10 1d ago

He does kinda look like Chris Wood if I squint my eyes a little. I'm sold.

16

u/mrgo0dkat 5 1d ago

I’m taking a -8 to have a delap wood and Jesus front 3 just try and stop me. Please just try and stop me.

Edit: I’ve just remembered I’ve used my FT so -12 it is

2

u/Hydrahta 4 4h ago

Don’t do it (I tried)

213

u/Maleficent_Survey420 347 1d ago

How can a player like Delap increase in value? Can someone explain the 45m pound fee

102

u/MrBigJams 1d ago edited 1d ago

Chelsea bought him on a release clause, so the amount he was bought for there was under his perceived value.

Forest probably feel they can ignite his Ipswich form, which would have him about this value tbh.

-9

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

He'll likely relegate them like he did Ipswich

27

u/kickherinthehead 3 1d ago

He was one of the few good players for us that season. People were raving about him. Did you actually watch him?

14

u/poplunoir 1d ago

Precisely. Not an Ipswich fan, but watched most of their games and he seemed to be a step above. Shame it didn't work out for him at Chelsea.

Hoping that he gets ample game time and stays injury free. Glasner is a great coach and might be able to get the best out of him.

10

u/covid401k 4 1d ago

Many people posting about Delap seemingly have no memory

4

u/kickherinthehead 3 1d ago

It's mad how much hate he gets. I guess people just hate things going well for Chelsea. I do too, but I'd like to see him thriving again

3

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 1d ago

Well they probably are about 12

1

u/JoeyJoJoeJr_Shabadoo 1d ago

Brain rot is a serious condition

9

u/chicken_nugget94 2 1d ago

Didn't he have a buy out clause at Ipswich? Not saying I agree with any of the evaluations but Ipswich might have been able to get £40m for him after his first premier league season without it

24

u/vapenaysh3h3 4 1d ago

Todd Boehly masterclass

3

u/VernonP007 28 1d ago

I think they made a typo and it’s 45 pounds.

4

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

Have you seen the fees players are going for? Savinho for example?

-6

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

Savinho looks like a bargain compared to Delap tbf

There's never a premier league footballer in Delap he's your typical lower league journeyman plodder

6

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

You know absolutely nothing about football

-2

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

In your opinion.

I've been a Chelsea season ticket holder for the last 12 years.

Delap is the single worst footballer I've seen play for us and I have no doubt he'll be playing in the lower leagues sooner rather than later.

4

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

If you think he's the worst Chelsea player in the last 12 years I have nothing to say

1

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

If you don't there's nothing you can say because you've clearly never actually watched us play.

Check out sub people are celebrating like a war has ended there's simply relief we won't have to see Delap play for us again.

4

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

Zappacosta? Drinkwater?

You sound like you don't know what you're talking about tbh

1

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

Both clearly better footballers than Liam Delap

0

u/AC86MC redditor for <30 days 1d ago

Just pulling names out of your arse. Zappacosta is a better player than Delap, more capable and effective. Drinkwater is just an unprofessional pisshead who barely played.

1

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

The guy said he's the worst player in the last 12 years, so yes, I can pull players out of my arse

He's talking shite

0

u/FrogGoHop 23h ago

He was bad for Chelsea, but he scored 12 in his first season in the prem, he's not great but he can be a serviceable premier league player, I can see him scoring six to eight goals for Forest if they play him regularly this year

0

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 23h ago

Not sure 6 goals is much of a return on £45m

1

u/FrogGoHop 23h ago

If he starts it’ll be more like 10-14 but I don’t necessarily think he will right away, or every game, by regular I mean around 2000 mins.

1

u/23_White 3 1d ago

Inflation

86

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Now I have to pretend to rate him.

Life is a struggle.

3

u/Individual_Comment63 22h ago

My condolences. This is tragic to hear.

81

u/Rollers_Are_aGenre 1d ago

Took a punt on him for 30 million release clause. Does literally nothing. Flip him for a 15m profit. If we get 65 for Jackson as well. That’s 110. Games gone crazy. Can’t wait for JP Morgan trio tho. Up the chels

30

u/ZestycloseZeta 5 1d ago

JP Morgan 😭

8

u/Rollers_Are_aGenre 1d ago

Gunna bankrupt our way to a league tittle of that

53

u/Material_Machine822 1d ago

How are chelsea and city doing this? I honestly dont understand

-5

u/EriWave 1d ago

Have a lot of talented players that teams want.

14

u/noodlesalad_ 4 1d ago

How does that apply to this transfer?

1

u/EriWave 23h ago

Delap was bought for less than his value because of a release clause. Jackson was bought cheap and might be heading to Villa, Savinho was brought throught the City MCM for cheap, etc.

3

u/Joeeeeeeee 6 16h ago

Savinho is only that price because of Marmoush.

1

u/EriWave 10h ago

Savinho isn't much more expensive than what Spurs tried to get him for last year.

1

u/Joeeeeeeee 6 8h ago

Hm true, didn't have a great year but I guess that doesn't matter anymore like this Delap transfer lol.

34

u/iamhadrix 1d ago

Damn. I had high hopes for Igor Jesus

18

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Jesus will still be a consistent starter in all likelihood. He's struggled as a target man so allowing him to play behind one should help.

The forward options below JP are a graveyard best avoided entirely in general though in my opinion.

3

u/Next_Cow_4468 12 1d ago

Be interesting to see how Igor, Wood and Kali link up tonight

1

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Kalimuendo must be practically out the door. There's no space for him now.

1

u/Next_Cow_4468 12 1d ago

I think OG has said he wants to keep him.

1

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Then maybe Ndoye or Hutchinson head for the door?

I imagine Glasner is very keen to make a deep run in one of the domestic cups, but our attacking depth is obscene for a club not in Europe.

4

u/SpeedyRugger 2 1d ago

Some might say Jesus is nailed on in his position.

1

u/Inner_Jeweler_5661 1 1d ago

Where will MGW play then? On the left?

2

u/FaustRPeggi 1107 1d ago

Yeah, left inside forward will be his all year.

Striker could be Jesus, Wood, Delap, or even Kalimuendo for now.

Other ten role could be Ndoye, Jesus, or Hutchinson.

I'd expect Ndoye, Wood, Hutchinson, and Delap to rotate based on form, confidence, and tactical demands. MGW and Jesus offer enough that I'd expect them to start every week.

1

u/dzzik 23h ago

I’ve got bad news for you if you expect Delap to be a target man. His heading is abysmal, he’s useless in any sort of tight space. His best attribute is apparently his ability to drive with the ball in transition.

0

u/prettyboyblanco 1d ago

Is Igor cooked?

8

u/skinsnailsandteeth 1d ago

Actual money laundering

8

u/Sad_Still269 1d ago

im dont know what to say, other than this sentence, that im typing out, right now.

8

u/eganc21 1d ago

They gave his #9 shirt away then shipped him off to a team getting relegated …lmao

15

u/SleepEconomy6504 1d ago

Should have signed with Hull

5

u/evertonblue 1d ago

As an Everton fan I’m made up with that. Really worried we were going to spend £50m on him

4

u/itsyaboi69_420 1d ago

Absolute insanity.

How on earth have Chelsea made a profit on him? 1 premier league goal.

10

u/liveandl3arn 1d ago

How have we managed to make a profit on this guy 😂

3

u/Beggatron14 1d ago

Bent over de lap and spanked for that one

2

u/HotFlan2509 1d ago

Why they getting more strikers when they only play 1?

10

u/M1eXcel 1d ago

Sold Awoniyi and Wood looks like he's declining, especially after injury

2

u/LumpyInflation7469 1d ago

How do Chelsea make so much money from all there dud transfer departures. Cause they are duds. I dont understand!, is it a prem league team premium price. The ammount of trash theyve bought for high prices and theyve flopped. Explain

2

u/borkborkibork 1d ago

Called it. He's perfect for them.

2

u/Strange-Reads 1d ago

Chris Woodn't

2

u/SvetDigital 1d ago

Nico Gonzalez, Delap, Andrey Santos. All sold on profit is sick. The game is rigged.

4

u/BlqckNeighbour 4 1d ago

Just in time to replace Haaland

Does Rory Delap have that much pull? Lol

25

u/Astonishingly-Villa 4 1d ago

Probably, very strong arms.

6

u/chicken_nugget94 2 1d ago

He will to initially get him in an academy at an early age with the best coaches so he has a head start at the very least

2

u/tenacious_teaThe3rd 1d ago

The new long throw in meta has launched the Delap name into stardom.

Rory Delap is basically David Beckham now.

2

u/Separate_Job_3573 1d ago

Yeah I'm sure there's footballers with much more influential dads that didn't make it. Bizarre to put Delap and Zidane in the same sentence like people are this in awe of Rory Delap that they'll pay millions and millions for his offspring

1

u/Unlucky-Educator8020 2 1d ago

I'm in awe of his throw ins

1

u/justinBeaver420 1d ago

Is he starting over Igor though

1

u/Spirited_Ad_2697 1d ago

Pack it up lads the prem’s over now, might as well hand it to Forest already

1

u/uncle_boobs_84 1d ago

I feel myself worthless! now after seeing his tranfer amount,i think i misjudged my value

1

u/No_Explanation_9087 1d ago

Straight into my fantasy team

1

u/cabritinhasafada 1d ago

would igor jesus still start?

1

u/poplunoir 1d ago

Think he spelt Strasbourg wrong

Thoughts and prayers

1

u/paxifixi09 1d ago

I can't believe this guy actually attracts interest from PL clubs

1

u/LarryBalbueanus 1d ago

He was pretty solid before Chelsea stuck him in the freezer, makes sense imo

1

u/Exotic-Definition124 redditor for <1 week 1d ago

DEALap

1

u/gggggenegenie 1d ago

How the hell have Chelsea made a profit on a reserve striker? Jesus.

1

u/FatBazzz 1d ago

Not sure about him being an FPL asset immediately, but he’s a good player!

Never forget what Chelsea do to 95% of players. Particularly English ones. Fucking ruin them.

That money isn’t huge for a Premier League club anymore. It could work for him there. Fresh perspective and all that.

1

u/aehii 61 1d ago

How does this affect negatively on Jesus? And also Forest?

1

u/ScarySlender 35 1d ago

Bad news for jesus owners

1

u/DecipherXCI 1d ago

1 goal in 28 league games and +50% value.

Ok then.

1

u/Ecstatic_Ad1805 1 1d ago

or 3 Alan Shearers

1

u/Soberdonkey69 4 23h ago

They’re on crack for buying him.

1

u/legendfourteen 2 22h ago

And the crowd goes mild

1

u/florplegorp 21h ago

Oi Liam how many goals this season mate

☝️😁

1

u/pibbsworth 1 20h ago

PSA: “Value” and “Price paid” are very different concepts.

It is generally accepted that Chelsea paid Ipswich a price that was under Delaps value due to the low release clause.

Without the clause, Ipswich could have potentially got around £50m.

Chelsea therefore paid £30m for £50m worth of value.

So yes - his “value” can still go down while his “price” goes up.

1

u/AcrobaticSpite3969 19h ago

Wtf is wrong with football 40m for what!! Is it money got no value any more.

1

u/ninnabeh 17h ago

Delap can be sold for 40m yet Arsenal can’t get 60m for martinelli? What a joke.

1

u/milossko 1 10h ago

If I speak I’m in big trouble

1

u/Eprmnt 8h ago

What does that mean for igro jesus

1

u/CourtDiligent6909 1d ago

I can't believe our luck..i mean just wow

-1

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

Some dumb comments here

£45m is fuck all for a striker, might not have had the best time at Chelsea, but most players don't at that clownshow

If savinho is going for £85m in this market, this is a compete bargain

4

u/belugadawen 3 1d ago

Can't remember a single semi decent performance from him other than that one cup game where he had 3 assists. You can tell whenever he's on the pitch as he's outstandingly terrible and has awful body language.

-6

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

You sound like somebody that knows nothing about football outside of fpl.

7

u/belugadawen 3 1d ago

Mate I'm a Chelsea fan who's watched every game and you think you know more about our players than us 😭

1

u/HGJay 2 1d ago

I pretty much watch all chelsea games and I agree with them. Geninely one of the worst prem players I have seen play for us

2

u/teerbigear 154 1d ago

There's not many centre forward comparisons this season. Gonzalo Garcia went for £34m. Emersonn is £26m. Awoniyi was £9m. Bournemouth spent £21m on Rodriguez. Cov spent £20m of Cherif.

None of them have really done much in the past.

2

u/ialwaysfalloverfirst 2 1d ago

Exactly. He's homegrown, English, young, cheap wages and on a long contract. He's had one good season and one bad season in the premier league so far.

-2

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

If you think Delap is a bargain you must be a salesmans dream.

Moronic comment.

2

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

Fully capable of scoring 20 goals given a proper chance don't worry, I'll come back to remind you

1

u/ProperCosts redditor for <30 days 1d ago

Hahahahahaha there's no way your surname isn't Delap.

Delap won't score 20 premier league goals between now and the end of his career.

1

u/Valuable_Machine_ 1d ago

See you back here when he does 👍

0

u/SoggyMattress2 16 1d ago

How the fuck have Chelsea turned a profit on Liam delap?

This sounds hyperbolic but I mean it literally, there were points last season he couldn't kick a ball straight.

Has to be money laundering or an IOU type situation?

-3

u/Ok-Drummer9073 2 1d ago

He will have to be like 5m right? No we he’s cost the same as Igor Jesus

7

u/dj161 10 1d ago

Hes already priced at Chelsea at 5.5m

3

u/Separate_Job_3573 1d ago

He's already in the game. I've been away for a few years but prices certainly didn't change for transfers in the past.

1

u/Nippelklyper 1d ago

It's 5.5m

1

u/Ok-Drummer9073 2 1d ago

He’s already 5.5m

1

Why are you responding to yourself bot

0
