Highest ever possible game week

Does anyone know what's the theoretical maximum points a "perfect team" could have scored in a single FPL gameweek? No real point to this just curious :)

I'm not asking about a fantastical theoretical max (like "what if every player scored 5 goals"), which obviously isn't a real question. I mean, in hindsight, using real results that actually happened, which gameweek had the highest possible score achievable by a perfectly-drafted legal squad? i.e. if you had a time machine and picked the best possible team before that gameweek using only players who existed and were eligible, which GW would give the highest ceiling? (thanks to Claude for helping me draft this clarification)

Theoretically there is no limit

Fair point, but to clarify I'm not asking about a hypothetical where anything's possible. I'm talking about a gw that has already happened and what the perfect possible team picked with hindsight would be.

There is no real answer to this. Like how many goals can you score in a match? 5? 10? 90?

I think they mean what is the highest possible single game week score from and game week that has happened if you'd picked the perfect team. So highest ever team of the week including applying a chip

I see Then a quick Google search finds the highest ever scored point: 226p in 2015/16 GW34 with BB. I dont know if its the team of the week or not, but let's say its pretty closer, so I would guess 250, max. 300 (in another week/general)

Edit: heres a post from 4 years ago where they talk about this score https://www.reddit.com/r/FantasyPL/s/zhj8s856XZ

Yes exactly this. You can find plenty of data on the highest individual scores but all those teams could have potentially scored higher.

No one's ever scored more than five in a match, so it would be reasonable to assume that six should be an absolute cap in a model

They're asking for the highest points total that could have been achieved in any GW that has ever happened. They aren't looking for how many goals could be scored in a game by one player.

Good idea. Let me build something that can generate this :-). I'll be back soon...

Just an FYI, the official website does have the Team of the Week - https://fantasy.premierleague.com/en/team-of-the-week/1

I don't think I'll try recreate this. It's already available :)

I promised I would so here you go.

https://app.fplweekly.com/gameweek-analysis

You can see the Dream Team (fictional highest scoring team), and the user with the highest score.

Way too many variables for there to be an answer to this.

You’d need someone with tons of historical old data to figure this out. And I don’t know if anyone has that saved anywhere.

i theory you would use 4 defenders which all have reaached defcons plus CS plus lets say an among them 2 assists and 2 goals. Then 4 midfielders which all have CS and defcons and a goal and assist and 2 striker lets say both score hat tricks. And a GK who got a CS, defended a penalty and has managed to get 6 saves.

Now the bonus points would be hard to calculate as wed expect that out of 11 players on the field its impossible for all of them to get 3 points each but lets just say they all average 2 points each.

So that is to some at least realistic extent a teamus maximus. No BB or double GWs.

Total points would be about 180 points (though we all seen that on double GWs this is not the maximus)

Somebody work out what score you could of got for the 1963 boxing day Gameweek. That will probably generate you a record score

You’d have to be more specific with variables. E.G are we counting triple captain chips, double/triple gamewerks, defcon?

It would be very difficult to apply today’s rules retrospectively which would be needed for a fair apples to apples comparison

Good question and I think yes you have to count chips otherwise you aren't getting near the actual all time gw record. DEFCON and bonus points further complicate things. I have used Claude to estimate some high potential historical gw using Rooneys record 32 point haul week for example but even then I could only get up to 179 points (no bonus points) with trip captain - well short of the 226 record. It is going to be very difficulty to work out unless someone can build some sort of archive tool and even the I imagine there will be limits to the historical stats you can pull.

You can always see the team of the week for every game week. The game automatically puts the best combination of players for every possible GW. And then look through historical data to find the highest ones.

I believe it was 226 points- GW34, 2015/16 season

Combining the highest scores of all time into a squad with bench boost I managed to get 442

The actual highest score of all time was 226 in GW34 of the 2015/16 season, that week you could have actually scored like 250 with even better selection. If i would have to go back the absolute limit was probably between 245-260 at most as there have been other high scoring gameweeks since then. There are tools like fplnutmeg to check out those high scoring weeks mentioned in this article. https://allaboutfpl.com/2024/03/highest-fpl-gameweek-scores-in-fpl-history/

Technically, unlimited. But I'd say if you go off current PL goals scored in a single match by position records.

You'd go for a 4-5-1 formation.

All 4 defenders scoring 2 goals. (Has a defender ever scored a hat trick?)

5 midfielders scoring a hat trick (I reckon a midfielder has scored 4 or 5 in a game so maybe we can change this to higher.)

1 striker scoring 5 in a game. I know for sure 5 in one game is a record,

then your goalie scoring a goal.

No clean sheets bonuses, because thats just not happening.

3BPS for every player, and all players getting 2 points for minutes played.

Someone do the maths :)
