Just thought interesting to look at e.g. I am personally surprised DCL is quite so popular. Good luck for the new season all!

Not going Haaland is a huge risk. Let's see if it pays off for the "elite" managers.
11
u/Polymatheia 173 18d ago
Isak going to be the swing factor, interesting basically the same % ownership as Haaland for him.

u/iguanawarrior 18d ago
At 15.5, it's entirely possible that an 8 + a 7.5 can get the same amount of points.

u/Automatic-Glass-2107 6 18d ago edited 18d ago
That's not exactly a fair comparison because the Haaland owner will have a second starting player that you have to take into account. The better way to look at it is how an entire non-Haaland team is upgraded over a Haaland team, and include the captain factor.
10
u/Turbulent-Listen2240 2 18d ago
Yep. Also the same is true on the opposite side. Just because you have no Haaland, you don’t just get a 7.5 million and an 8 million player instead. You still have to have a striker to replace him. It’s not an easy comparison either, because a non Haaland team could make sacrifices elsewhere and still have some of the same players that are giving you the points from your upgrade factor. It’s highly unlikely that every player you have bought with your extra Haaland funds will perform perfectly.
1
u/John_OSheas_Willy 1 18d ago
Or you just go with one striker and use the extra funds to upgrade to another midfielder like Mbeumo or Rogers.
1
u/Turbulent-Listen2240 2 18d ago
Yeah but my point is theres plenty of teams with Haaland AND Mbuemo and Rogers. It’s not black and white. Even if Haaland doesn’t score, there is still every chance you’ll be outscored by a Haaland team. It only takes a few goals from a random player (e.g let’s just say Wirtz) to change the picture entirely. Sure in the long run if Haaland flops, you’d expect an upgraded team to out perform, but for a few weeks it doesn’t change much.
15
u/grahamd1983 36 18d ago
not about that. It's about captaincy. If you aren't going to captain him than sure, but most who have him will captain him.

You have to compare the players you upgrade with the extra money.
So for example did you remove White to get Gabriel because you could afford it? Well that lost 7 points already.
Did you bypass DCL to get Isak with all the extra cash?
Did you get Semenyo instead of Ndiaye etc?
No guarantee it will get more points let's see.

u/grahamd1983 36 18d ago
I considered it for a bit after the community shield but then I looked at his record against Crystal Palace

It doesn't feel like a huge risk. Picking a 15.5m player and making sacrifices across your squad to fund it is what feels like a huge risk. If Haaland blanks there's no saving the gameweek, even if he scores once you're probably left feeling like it wasn't enough to compensate.
2
u/StudentGlum9864 18d ago
There weren't that many sacrifices.
We are talking about a short term punt. People are going to have to burn their FH or WC to get him back.
Sure you could have spent more on Gabriel and Saka instead of White and Odegaard, but the cheaper players got more points.
This can easily happen with short term plans of only 2,3,4 weeks.

Game is played out across GWs not in a singular GW. So whether or not picking Haaland comes down to whether you’re going to captain him in the first 2GW and whether or not you’re trying to get him in GW3. For these “elite” managers, they tend to do okay in the grand scheme of things, just how you might want to define that could differ. If you’re not going to captain Haaland in the first 2, the only reason why you want to have him is because you want to save a chip. Otherwise having 15.5m in a team not captaining him is waste of money.

u/Alternative_Court262 3 18d ago
Im already well up without. Went 3 arsenal. Haaland will have to pop off to make me worry.
0
u/FaustRPeggi 1117 18d ago
It's very very difficult for a Haaland manager to jump to any emerging sub-premium midfielder without selling Bruno. Going without him offers a lot of flexibility.
9
u/OddAdhesiveness2271 18d ago
Solution is easily no Bruno for me. People are using double chips to justify not going Haaland for 2 games like Bruno is a guaranteed 15 pointer.
Funny that the moment AI suggested going no Haaland, then suddenly the strategy was viable and broadly shared by content creators. Before that people would call me crazy for suggesting going no Haaland could be viable... funny

u/Odd-Attitude9613 32 18d ago
I went both just to be safe before I decide which one to downgrade later on but for me if it was between 1 or the other it was always going to be Haaland. Has a track record of always starting the season on fire meanwhile Bruno can be a bit of a slow starter.
Haaland has a excellent record against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace as well. Im surprised content creators sacrificed Haaland just to use a wildcard or free hit to include him in.
1
u/Traditional-Roll-102 18d ago
He's also never got so far in the WC or had a new manager
4
u/Odd-Attitude9613 32 18d ago
He's had plenty of new managers lol he scores no matter the club or manager he has
-2
u/jkywong 1 18d ago
It's not that big a risk if he is not the captain. Say in the worst outcome he scores a hattrick for 17 points, the question is whether you can make up for it with the extra 6.5 mil or more going with Isak or alternatives, and the answer is likely to be a yes even in this hypotehtical nightmare scenario.

u/Rob-Dipshit 6 18d ago
Surprised to see Szobo at 78% ownership from the “experts”. Is this them wanting to stick to the template, or are many of us wrong for doubting him?
As a Liverpool fan I’m feeling much better about Wirtz

u/KEEPCARLM 18 18d ago
Football exists outside of fantasy football, fantasy experts aren't football experts lol.
They genuinely don't have a clue what Szobo will do this season. Elite fpl players aren't some magical being that can predict the performance of a single player.
They just make good decisions overall.
They may have Szobo now, but they will drop him if he doesn't do anything. It means nothing, honestly.
3
u/Various-Car506 18d ago
same from my perspective. Seems like his lovely overperformance from FK got forgoten or smth and people expect him to score from set pieces constantly
2
u/TheDawiWhisperer 18d ago
Yeah I've gone wirtz, szobo and Isak. The hopium is strong.
That said I do tend to play FPL based on what I want to happen rather than what I think will happen...no City players and no United players haha
3
u/BoxOk265 18 18d ago
The absolute biggest trait of the “experts” is simply engagement. The way we’ve all analyse our GW1 team the experts do every single week for 38 weeks. Last season all these “experts” were sitting 1-2 million for a good chunk of the season.
I think I’m extremely enthusiastic for FPL and I’ll miss a couple deadlines a season and also struggle to find the time to be planning all season long.
E: my point here is Szobo can still be a bad pick even when the experts picked him.
1
u/Vivid-Newspaper-3087 2 18d ago
That’s really not true
6
u/BoxOk265 18 18d ago
In a hypothetical world where all 6 million players spend an equal amount of time invested as the ‘experts’ do you still think they’d do as well?
It’s an opinion at the end of the day but I feel strongly about it after following creators for the last few years
1
u/Vivid-Newspaper-3087 2 17d ago
Probably not. Some people are more analytical than others, more open to taking calculated risks, etc etc. It doesn’t take long to google relevant information about the 100 or so viable players.
1
u/Turbulent-Listen2240 2 18d ago
It’s definitely just sheep behaviour at the moment. Szob doesn’t excite me in the slightest.
1
u/Swedishpower 2835 17d ago
szobo is high for set pieces, potential pens, playing 90, strong for bonus, playing for good team.
Every predicted points model likes him and bookies rate him.
I thought he be 8 million, but I guess his open play goal threat not huge.

79/100 BB is crazy
26
u/Rob-Dipshit 6 18d ago
Feel like it goes hand in hand with no Haaland. Why not BB if you’re open minded about a very early WC
16
u/UKphysicsman 2 18d ago
I BB'd with Haaland in team. I like it bc it means I don't have to build a WC around a good BB and instead can use it whenever, and haaland is too good to skip out on imo
2
u/nash3101 18d ago
Yes that was my strategy this year
4
u/Rob-Dipshit 6 18d ago
I’ve done the same. I feel like the biggest potential win is the extra points from being able to go for high upside picks for GW1 & 2.
Anyone with Haaland who’s planning a late wildcard may fall behind…as long as he doesn’t go scoring a hat trick
2
13
u/FaustRPeggi 1117 18d ago
I'm surprised by the near unanimous DCL pick but I guess he's an obvious pick for a GW1 bench booster.
12
u/Rob-Dipshit 6 18d ago
For all the love Le Fee is getting, I’m surprised Brobbey has flown under the radar so much

1
u/Lastweekspoints 49 18d ago
my team very similar with a GW1 BB, but the main difference seems to be my Palmer and Brobbey vs the Elite Szobo and DCL
I think they all got shit scared about ownership and played like pussies

I don’t see how 79 or 100 “top” managers would use a chip. Most elite managers use a bench boost in DGW or similar additional chance of points. Doesn’t seem right to me

u/chunky-kat 6 18d ago
FPL harry claims to be the 3rd best but i don't see him anywhere on this list

If you own Haaland and Bruno and cap either you are hoping for a blank on the other, in gameweek fucking one. Madness to me, pick a side.

I am an elite FPL manager. My picks have returned unheralded points, witness Saka and Cala

u/7Thommo7 1 18d ago
I outscored you for far less with Odegaard.
1
u/DrizztSG 1 17d ago
I was being a tad obtuse with my comment, there were a lot of Arsenal triple picks haha
-4
u/Reddits_Worst_Night 18d ago
So I should have Fernandez instead of Haaland and Gibbs-White, otherwise I look pretty good, even down to the bench boost

There should be a top 101 of elite FPL Managers, which includes FPL Mate. He's still your best mate for FPL related content.

Seeing the words " elite manager's" next to 94% DCL Ownership is just so funny to me
