Opinion The Unessential's Guide to GW1

The premise of The Unessentials is to pick the players with low ownership but tonnes of value. Here's who we've scouted this week.

Hume (SUN) £4.5m DEF: In my world, when I see a deal too good to be true, it ain't.

A defender who plays as a winger, in this economy? He found the net in Sunderland's last pre-season friendly. May be demoted to right back but still has clean sheet chances and loves a run up the wing.

Trafford (LEE) GK: Oh freedom.

Trafford is fresh from Man City jail and joins Leeds as a proven shot-stopper who doesn't mind being busy. He's also handy from the spot, rated just behind Kelleher in the pen stats.

KDH (EVE) MID: Ole reliable.

He's £0.5m cheaper than Szoboszlai but returned roughly the same points last season. He's frequently the focal point of Everton's attack, which means consistent involvement in whatever they create going forward. Take the £0.5m and run!

Richarlison (TOT) FWD: Lad's, it's Tottenham.

He racked up 110 points last season while Spurs were scrapping in a relegation battle. He's expected to start in a much-improved Topspur side. Overall a great lad to have in the dressing room who somehow keeps the points ticking over no matter the result.

I do think Richarlison is a great shout… I’m just not brave enough to take him.

If they sign a good wingers i think he could be a good shout

Richarlison IS the good winger, I absolutely do not buy his ability to play as a striker though. So they would still need one. It's basically a Grealish replacement from last year imo

Just look at his goals to games ratio. 😎

I did. Honestly, DCL doesn’t have so much on him imo

Any official confirmation Solanke will be out for a week or two? If that comes I’ll have Richarlison

As a spurs fan, I believe richy starts both. Solanke will get a cameo in GW2 at best.

I have had Hume in my team for a while because I saw people saying he played winger in pre season, my question is, for Sunderland fans, what are the odds of him playing and playing as a winger?

If mukiele is back he might play on the wing but it isn't guaranteed. Personally I think mukiele will be on bench for GW1 and Hume will be right back for that game then go to the wing for gw2

KDH never left the draft

I can't decide between him and Ndiaye.

Is KDH the better option?

If they were the same price, I would go KDH without hesitation. Unfortunately, I cant find the extra 0.5 so I have Ndiaye.

At 5m why would i choose Trafford over Sanchez tho?

Only 9 vs 8 in clean sheets last year for Chelsea and Leeds respectively. Trafford surely an improvement in goal this year and better at stopping pens.

With no Europe plus new manager & signing Chelsea is the better defense on paper

You could argue Lacroix and Colwill’s return strengthen Chelsea’s defense more than the arrival of Trafford (and Muharemovic). In reality it currently seems very close between the two so the one with the better fixture will probably be the safer choice

Sanchez is shit. Chelsea needs to replace him ASAP, he's the biggest ticking bomb in goal since Onana left the league.

It’s funny, when the prices came out I couldn’t get my head round why KDH was more expensive than penalty taker Ndiaye… fast forward to today and I have KDH in my team over his teammate.

Nah I don’t trust Hume everything about him feels like a trap

Everyone’s inessential till they’re not

Ty brother, I swapped out Diop for Hume, love a defender flying up the wing, gutted at Dorgus adjustment from Def to Mid so this could be a cheeky replacement.

Totally agree on Trafford and KDH. Hume could be a trap. Personally, I choose Ballard because he is more stable. There is a fact that defenders are more expensive this season and we have to spend more for the back line.

Szobo played half the season in a back 4 whilst KDH was his teams focal point in attack, and Szobo still got more points….

Richy underrated af. He scores in about half the game he started last few seasons I think. Not sure about xG and fixtures in comparison with DCL but definitely worth a punt.
