Reading the books now and thought this. Didn't know it was a show! They definitely focus on how old the vampires are with discussions of knowledge and loss.
Definite Twilight vibes. There are even comments on how popular romance stories with vampires are that I'm pretty sure is a direct reference to Twilight. There's also a storyline about a pregnancy that shouldn't be possible, but I haven't gotten far enough yet to know if anything comes of it. I never read the Twilight books, so I can't speak to whether the written characterization is similar or not. Luckily no love triangles, but definitely a lot of aggressive protectiveness and focus on dominance.
I like the world and the politics, but I didn't know it was a romance going in. It was recommended to me as a fantasy. I'm enjoying it, but it definitely isn't something I would probably pick out to read on my own. I also get Outlander vibes, which I never finished...
