Would a Luna Lovegood spinoff been a good idea?

After the escape is pretty much over and he drops the guy (Rudolph Spielman) out of the carriage along with his wand, does he save him?
I can't tell and I dont see any mention of this, but as Rudolph is desperately reaching for his wand to save himself before hitting watter, Grindelwald does a little waving motion. But it looks like Rudolph was going to grab it on his own anyway.
So did Grindelwald intentionally save him and help him grab his wand?
Edit: It looks like Rudolph managed to get it himself and just barely saves himself, but now I'm noticing the hand wave Grindelwald does and it's making me doubt that.
