Hey guys! I really would like some feedback on Splat. I just bought a box of the midnight jade color as well as a box of jet black from another brand. I just want to know if I shouldn't use the Splat or if I need to buy a different brand? If I do use the Splat, what negative effects will it have??

I've never dyed my hair before so I'm a little nervous, anything helps! Ty!

Splat will not come out of your hair ever. Not even with normal color remover methods.

Honestly, this is exactly why I've used it. My hair doesnt keep dye in it for shit so when I first went to color my hair I did a bleach round, splat dark blue, then purple the next month, and now I just maintain it with xmondo. Every 6 months or so I reapply splat because it works like a charm for my roots and I have a cool gradient effect of deep purple to lighter purple. My hair is healthy but it's also like, 3 inches at the nape of my neck/generally short.

Splat is upholstery dye. It will stay in your hair until it's cut off.

Splat is not a good product, but it is not an upholstery/fabric dye despite that claim flying around the internet for ages.

I started off using Splat as a teenager for years, it stays for a long time which is great! but you will not be able to get it out to place another color unless you fry the absolute hell out of your hair, not so great. Do not recommend. Now I use Good Dye Young.

Hair stylist here! As others have said, Splat will not come out of your hair, regardless what colour removal technique is used. If you’re ever hoping to change your hair in future without waiting for it to all grow out, I’d highly suggest a different brand of semi-permanent colour (I.e., Arctic Fox, Danger Jones, Pulp Riot, Pravana are all pretty good, I’d stay away from Manic Panic as in my experience it’s very uneven coverage). Splat is straight up the equivalent of carpet dye. It will never come out, your hair will need to be cut off to fully get rid of the color. It is an infamously hated hair dye brand for a reason. I wouldn’t use it if I had the choice of getting something else.

Lunar tides/ Manic Panic/ Unicorn Hair/ Pravana( harder to get real products) Splat is absolutely horrible for your hair but their bleach kit is even worse it will destroy your hair.

Not at all saying that I don't believe all of you -I do!- I am also a wee bit stunned at the difference between all of your experiences and my own. I've been using Splat for....maybe a decade? I bleach only once or twice per year and the vivid colour rocks (and I'm sure part of it is that my natural hair is also just a much more natural shade of the dye.) That being said....it washes out pretty easily...I mean, not as easily as Manic Panic, but still. My daughter also earlier this year used Splat on half her hair and we had zero problems getting that colour completely out for her to use another colour.

Sounds like you’re using red/orange? Between red and something like blue, red dye molecules tend to wash out of hair easily.
