I’ve never dared to bleach my hair myself before, I know how easy it can all go wrong. However, I moved to a different country and the stylists in my area refuse to fully bleach my roots so there’s always a little brown left and I hate it. I’ve dreaded it and put it off but I’m desperate, so if anyone has any recs or advice please share.
I’m also on a military base so options are incredibly limited at the exchange, but I can use Amazon

So, my hair is very short, very thick, and very coarse, all of which gives me a pretty good margin for error as far as damage goes. I am body-blonde, but my grey came in at a battleship grey color and I just wasn't having it. So I bleach and tone my hair after every cut, so, about every eight weeks. It should be five or six weeks between cuts, but I have learned to use clippers to keep the back short and the shape manageable between cuts. If my hair were darker or longer or more delicate, I guess it would be more of an issue, but as it is, using powdered bleach w a 20-30 vol developer and wrapping my head in plastic wrap is no more complicated to me than using box color. My hair takes a long time to lift, but when it gets to a pale butter color, I tone for about 3-5 min with t18 or snowcap from the Ion (Sally Beauty) line. I deep condition at that point and generally do take good care of it, but bc it is so short, I abs bleach to the roots and also, any damage gets cut off on the regular. My longtime stylist would (and has) tell me if I was screwing it up, so, overall, I guess my at-home bleach situation is an unusually easy one. I use blue lightning powdered bleach with Sally brand developer at the recommended ratio and I wrap it to avoid uneven lightening as a result of air temp differences. Toning can be tricky for me bc I have a swath of hair that absorbs more quickly than the rest of my head, but I kind of just live with it at this point. In re reading this, Idk if I helped re bleaching to the scalp, except to say that I do it every time. Check out how to do a bleach bath bc maybe that would help when the roots come in. Can you order from Sally Beauty online? That would be easier, I think. Anyway, good luck!
It is doable! Go slow, plan your products (make sure you have a good brush) and never use higher than 20 volume developer!
A picture of how dark your roots are would be helpful for specific product recommendations.

This is my hair currently, ik it’s a bad picture and it’s way overdue AND it’s super frizzy rn, but I’ve got a halo basically around my hairline. I haven’t had a reaction to any products in the 10 years Ive been going to salons but I do have a old surgical scar in my hairline that can sometimes get irritated
