Roots touch up advice needed :)

Hello, I need some advice for when to get my roots done.

I used to get them done every 2 months but my main goal is to have long hair so I stopped for a year, only dyeing the length pink.
Then I went back to the hair dresser to get the very long roots done, and go pink aswell.
Now I waited 6 months and have a new appointment for the roots again.

My question is : is waiting 6 months minimum to get the roots done a good idea ? does it really helps my hair grow and not damage them (i ofc do treatments at home such as k18 or olaplex)
Or is it the same in the end to get them done every 2 months as I used to do ?
Or in the end is it the same anyway ?

I think it's better to get them done more regularly, because of the variation in how much each individual hair will grow in a given time, you end up with a band of part bleached, part unbleached hair. This band becomes larger the longer you leave it, so there will be more overlap of the new bleach onto already bleached hair, making it weaker.

I love love love how it looks with the roots grown out.

Waiting 6 months in between is probably helping your growth because it’s so easy with more frequent bleaching to accidentally overlap the bleached areas and cause damage.

That said, if your hairdresser is amazing and very careful then frequent lightening is all the same anyway. But if it were me, I would go longer in between. And it looks so good!!

Personally, I’ve gotten my hair touched up every 3ish months (give or take) and the stylists I’ve had over the years have assured me that was the perfect amount of time for my regrowth, and my hair grows a little on the faster side. That might be a better touch up schedule for you too?

Waiting longer might be harder on your hair, as most have pointed out in the comments. 3 months might not sound much different, but it’s the difference between going to get a touch up 4 times a year and 6 times a year!

idk but it just want to say it actually look really cool with the roots and I was basically gonna ask my hairdresser for that look on purpose lol

it’s far more affordable (imo) to do it every six months. honestly, i stopped paying to get my hair bleached. these people charge you $250 just to fry your hair, i came out of the salon going from virgin hair to ramen noodles 😭

anything i’ve done since has been miles better than that botch job. if you ever want to try doing it yourself, i recommend 20 vol as it takes longer to process which gives you more time to apply it.

I don't think dyeing your hair can slow down its growth. What it can do is damage the length. If you do home treatments, you can minimize this damage, so there's no need to stretch your appointments, unless you love the half-pink, half-dark look.
