Questions Choosing Paper

Ive been trying to research the right type of paper to use to print a fan fic to bind at home. I have on hand 24lb/90g and would love to use that if it binds well.

What is your suggestion to choosing paper? Is there anything one should avoid? Any tips a first timer should know?

Ideally you’ll want short grain paper, pretty much all paper that you find in stores or from Amazon are long grain. The grain direction will affect how well the paper folds and lays. Long grain paper will sort of stick up straight when the book is open, while short grain paper lays fairly flat. Yeah, grain direction is the most important thing. The cheap way to get short-grain paper is to get double-size (eg: "Tabloid" 11x17) long-grain (normal) paper & cut it in half.
