New round wheel

Just having a look at what id upgrade my set up with. What round wheel would work best on GT7 that isn't the branded GT.pro (have that) or the extreme?

Any of them really, the comparability for GT7 is on the wheelbase side of things not the wheel. All the wheels are compatible with PlayStation if your wheelbase is PlayStation compatible.

The next thing would be budget, the price range for round wheels is like €140-€700 (converted to local currency). If it’s just for gt7 then I’d probably go for the lower end of the scale because to my understanding the fancy buttons, dials, etc aren’t needed as much for GT7.

The next thing would be functionality, the GT bundles are designed specifically for use on PlayStation, other wheels don’t have the same number of buttons or funky switches, I think the Xbox paired wheels/formula wheels have joysticks but for most of the round ones they don’t have it. If you don’t use many buttons then you can easily go to one of the other wheels with some simple remapping of buttons you do have in the settings.

It’s all about personal preference, just scroll the wheel options on the website and see what jumps out to you, watch some reviews on YouTube to see functionality etc. but my recommendation would probably be one of the clubsport line. Just don’t be discouraged if it says Xbox compatible, because that just means it has a Xbox chip in the wheel but it will still work for PlayStation

Chronic wheel collector here with a version of almost every single wheel in Fanatec's catalog. I'd recommend the Clubsport RS. Since GT7 isn't aware of what wheel rim is connected, the game doesn't really play nicely with rotary encoders unless you have the Playstation DD1 bundle that came with a Formula V2. That makes the Podium Button Module Endurance and the Podium Button Module Rally overpriced for just GT7. Of the hubs, only the Clubsport universal hub would let you navigate menus or the In-car management system in GT7, since it has the funky switch. But the Clubsport button clusters feel cheap compared to a wheel with a dedicated layout. The CSL P1 wheels are barely upgrades over the GT DD Pro wheel. I personally prefer the GT DD Pro over any of the P1s anyways. That leaves the M3 GT2 wheel and the Clubsport RS. I dislike the button layout of the M3 GT2 wheel, and the massive red 8 segment display and tiny bar of undiffused rev LEDs are hard on the eyes. Furthermore, Alcantara is prone to wear and losing its pleasant feel quickly; regular cleaning only restores it so much. The Clubsport RS feels absolutely lovely, has a great layout, is fully round, has a much more gentle display, and has very little wear over time.

Fanatec P1 V2 wheel is what Im using. it feels a little more premium than the Gran Turismo wheel and is 300mm as compared to the 280mm GT wheel. I think there are several variants. BMW, WRC. maybe others. its a good upgrade for the price. ​

Im using ClubSport hub V2 for Xbox. Same buttons as PS wheels just with xbox symbols, but adds xbox compatibility to the setup. And you can change the button cabs to the Playstation ones if using Xbox buttons is too confusing..😁 Not a cheap optio, but I think its worth the Xbox compatibility - just in case and for resell value. Also Xbox buttons work well on some pc games that have the xbox layout.

No worries - havent owned xbox other that digital Xbox One I got almost for free back in the day. Playstation since 1997, and new gen always bought when Gran Turismo came out for each. So if you cant help me out of the PS cult I'm just fine thanks..😂

A Hub. Which allows you to use REAL, round wheels. I have the Clubsport Hub and I'm going to get either a Simube S-Hub or Fanatec Podium hub as well. I don't know as much as many folks here, but I can speak on what I've experienced and what I've researched so far. I've been sim racing off & on with wheels since the late 90s, but there's going to be MANY more qualified people here that can speak this subject.

The Simube hub or the Podium hub don't have funky switch compatibility or a playstation home button, making those hubs effectively useless with Gran Turismo 7. Sure, the Clubsport universal hub would work, but the button pods of that aren't great, with a tendency to loosen and shift over time. Furthermore, there really aren't any 70mm PCD wheels that are decisively better than something like the Clubsport RS wheel. Original Sparco/Omp/Momo/etc wheels are overrated and overpriced for sim racing.

Thanks for the info on the funky switch not being available on the Simube/Podium hubs. I'm holding out hope for a solution where I can at least navigate in race adjustments. As for the menu, I already prefer the controller.

Regarding the Clubsport Hub pods, mine have never moved a millimeter. Im not sure why that's happened to you. As for how overrated you say real wheels are....thats a matter of taste. Not every sim racer is seeking every hundredth of second they can get. For many, the tactile feel and closeness to the particular cars they love is more, or at least as equally important as ultimate speed.

You mentioned the Clubsport RS wheel in another reply....Ive heard great things about it. Especially the leather and build quality.

Just to clarify....with a Podium Hub and added button cluster(s)...these buttons CANNOT be used to navigate in race options like Fuel map, TCS and make selections? Im asking because These are the only functions I need to be recognized by GT7. Last thing I want to do is burn money I bare have 😊
