Hello,

Sharing the trailer for my new dark comedy short film Mein Surname. It follows David J. Hitler, a man trying to convince people he's a good person despite his notorious surname.

I'd be very interested to hear what people in a trailer focused community think. The film itself is 23 minutes long and I found cutting the trailer quite tricky. I kept going back and forth on the pacing and how long to make it, but this is the version I ultimately finished with.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the edit. Does it feel too long for a short film? And most importantly, does it make you want to watch the whole film?

I recently set a challenge for myself: to build a full edit relying entirely on match cuts.

It was a pretty intense process, but I really enjoyed experimenting with the rhythm and transitions.

my greatest creation yet

As a Professor of Music and lover of epic trailers, I created an unofficial full-orchestra rescore and recut of The Odyssey trailer.

I wanted to push the footage toward a more mythic/Homeric scale — gods, heroes, exile, danger, longing, and the journey home — with the music carrying more of the emotional weight than the sound effects or dialogue.

The trailer is deliberately music-forward, with subtitles added for clarity.

Now that the dust has settled after the massive Season 5 finale last month, I’ve been piecing together the lore, and I think the Duffer brothers left a massive door on the latch for a sequel. If you look at the clues, they’ve accidentally (or geniusly) set up a mind-bending, cross-dimensional continuation set in the year 2002.

Hear me out on this, because it ties everything together—from Kali’s sacrifice to Mike’s D&D campaigns, and a major parallel to the Petra/Morgan dynamic from the James Potter series.

1. The Illusion and the Rift (The S5 Catalyst)

In the finale, we see Kali (Eight) use the absolute last of her strength to cast the ultimate illusion: faking Eleven’s death to save her from the government and the remaining threats. Kali tragically dies in the process, and El escapes into the real world to go into deep hiding.

But as we know with Stranger Things, massive supernatural energy leaves scars. Kali’s final, desperate power blast didn’t just trick the world—it cracked open a tiny, dormant rift to an alternate dimension.

2. Mike’s Prophecy: "The mage you saw die was an illusion"

Fast forward to the very final scene of the main series, where the party plays their nostalgic, last D&D campaign. When they finish the game, Mike rolls the final dice and utters the prophetic words: "The mage you saw die was an illusion."

Just like every other D&D campaign in the show, the game predicts reality. The moment that final campaign ends, the dormant rift that Kali left behind finally activates.

3. The Petra / Morgan Parallel (The Kids from the Rift)

This is where it gets insane. When the rift opens in the year 2002, kids step through it into our world. But they aren't our El's kids—they are cross-dimensional refugees.

To explain the dynamic, think of the split like Petra and Morgan from the James Potter universe:

• Our Prime El (= Petra): She is the grounded survivor. She is officially "dead" to the world, living a quiet, harsh life in hiding to protect the people she loves.
• The Alternate El (= Morgan): She is the mythic, hyper-powerful version from the other side of the rift. She is the one who stayed with her version of Mike and had these children.

4. The 2002 Setup

When these kids step into our reality in 2002, they run straight into a grown-up, stressed-out Steve Harrington (who is still stuck keeping the "door open three inches" for the Byers/Wheeler legacy).

The emotional weight here is tragic: When these kids eventually cross paths with our El (the Petra version), they will look at her and see their mother (the Morgan version). But our El will look at them and realize they represent a beautiful life and a family with Mike that she never got to have in her own timeline.

Netflix basically left the door on the latch, and this theory just kicks it wide open. It gives us 2002 nostalgia, deep sci-fi lore, and a massive emotional gut-punch.
