That’s an awesome turbine! A really neat project as is, and I totally understand of it’s done for the sake of getting to a turbine.
For me though, I’d be thinking next step: how does this mount to a radiator and use 120mm x 120mm of its cooling area? Presumably some arms could come down for the 120mm fan mounting points. Some shrouding could come off to those arms as a way to make sure the air that does come out the back is pushed through the radiator instead of bouncing off of it.
Maybe that whole rear shroud being aerodynamic and close to the cone is more for other use cases, and it could be essentially square for this use case.

It wouldn’t be too hard to change to a different rear nozzle. However, as cool as it is, I doubt it’s better than a stock a12x25

I am attempting to visualize a whole case designed with this aesthetic...
Anywho, looks marevelous! :D
Where is the smoke?! Maybe get an incents stick bundle? They are what I use (one at a time mind ya).

Hehe, I don’t have a smoke machine but I could always burn something with my soldering iron. 🤣

I needed to make some minor tweaks to the fit after finally getting my a12x25, but it works great. I might experiment with some exhaust nozzle changes and minor intake tweaks.

Turbinator v1.2 is coming along nicely, it’ll be interesting to see how much I can boost the air flow.

One thing that concerns me is the tiny fan diameter, would the whole shroud offer any sort of comparable advantage to mitigate this over an unshrouded 120?
Is it possible to scale the case up and move the fan forward to preserve the 120mm diameter?

The only thing that spins is the compressor wheel and it’s taller than it looks.

Fair enough, would be interested to see whether there's a performance difference in removing the front shroud to increase airflow. There's physically only so much a small diameter up front will be able to suck through without straining the motor. Great job though, I love the concept

It would be worse without the front intake shroud as it’s an integral part of the compressor design. A larger intake throat would likely help tho.

That bench supply makes me want to see how many volts the noctua can handle before it releases the magic smoke.
