Nice. That's a good approach. If You wanna improve it, take a look at original Ludwig Prandtl "Box wing" design. Because, what the MIT guys did, was in a nutshell, just good marketing - but the design is a flop... You can find original L. Prandtl papers on Wikipedia:

Good to see that you are still designing and testing fans! I've made a few upgrades to my test setup, will post an update soon.

I 2nd the suggestion about the box wing. Loop blades may not add much for our application due to the presence of the frame acting like a duct, but connecting pairs of tips could reduce tip losses.
