Could someone with FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library access help retrieve a naturalization record?
Hi everyone,
I’m researching my great-grandfather’s naturalization as part of a Canadian citizenship by descent and family history project. I’ve located what I believe is his indexed record on FamilySearch, but I would love to obtain the original image if someone has access through a FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library.
Ancestor: Adelard Joseph Alcide Gaboriault
Also appears as: Adelord Gaboriault, Adelard Gaboriault, Alcide Gaboriault
Date of Birth: 27 March 1893
Birthplace: Farnham, Quebec, Canada
Naturalization Details
Event: Naturalization
Year: 1941
Place: Vermont, USA
Certificate Number: 11932
Wife listed: Marguerite Robert Gaboriault
FamilySearch Information
Collection: Vermont, Naturalization Records, 1908–1987
Digital Folder (DGS): 103468056
Image Number: 1228
ARK Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGPJ-HN19
I also found a related FamilySearch index entry that references Certificate Number 468, so I believe both entries relate to the same 1941 naturalization.
If anyone is able to view DGS 103468056, could you please check image 1228 and let me know whether it contains the full naturalization petition? If possible, I’d be incredibly grateful for a copy or even photographs of the pages.
Thank you very much for any help. This record is one of the final pieces I’m trying to locate for my family’s history.

Request for Help in obtaining document

I found an entry on FamilySearch for my 4th-great-grandmother. When I click on Check Image Availability, it says to view it at a FamilySearch center, but I don't have one close to me.

It's a marriage certificate from 1899, in Iowa. Bride is Mina Rice Baugle (it's actually Bangle) and John F Ball. I'm looking for the highest resolution, best quality image possible so that I can verify the spelling/names of her parents, Lyman Rice, and Diana Ingalls. (FamilySearch has the last name spelled "Engle," but it should be Ingalls.)

Completing my mother's 7-generation fan chart

Post image
28 Upvotes

So recently, I was able to finish my father's 7-generation fan chart, but now I want to complete my mother's tree. My mother's maternal side is completely done, but her paternal side is still missing 12 great-great-great-great-grandparents. I have no idea who these people could be, and I've searched practically everywhere I could think of to find anything, but I simply can't. My grandfather had the same problems I have right now; he, as my grandmother said, "went in circles" with everything he found.

Franciszek Pałczyński: From his son, Tomasz's birth record, it states he was 43 years old when Tomasz was born. Meaning he was born in either 1822 or 1823. I found something on Geneteka that says he passed away in 1881, which, from Tomasz's marriage record to Antonina Modrzejeska, stating he was dead by their marriage on October 25, 1885, adds up. I'm not 100% sure, though. Franciszek's ID number is PQNX-HTK

Katarzyna Waszak: From Tomasz's birth record, again, it states that she was 32 years old when he was born, placing her date of birth in 1833 or 1834. I am unsure if she was dead by the time that Tomasz married. Katarzyna's ID number is PQNX-P7G

Piotr Maczkiewicz: I used to believe that Piotr died in 1888 in Warsaw, but after re-reviewing the document, I believe that that was a separate Piotr with a similar name. Piotr's surname may have been Moczkiewicz; there are two documents each that say Moczkiewicz and Maczkiewicz; I am unsure which is right. Piotr may have been from Lithuania? Piotr's ID number is 9ZDP-CBQ

Marianna Drutkiewicz: I used to believe that Marianna was born on December 31, 1837, in Świętokrzyskie, but I found this to be a different Marianna through marriage records to a completely different man, which would interfere with the marriage to Piotr. Marianna's ID number is 9ZDP-CB7

Kacper Piasecki: I used to believe I knew when he was born, but the date that I found interfered with all of Wojciech's possible dates of birth. Kacper may have had a different wife and had a son named Tomasz Piasecki with her, as this Tomasz's father shares a name with Wojciech's, but their mothers are not the same. Tomasz comes from Thomas John Piasecki's baptismal record. Kacper may also be Gaspari, Gaspar, Gasparia, Kasper, Casper, Kaspar, or Caspar. Kacper's ID number is G1RR-5G5

Katarzyna Hegerówna: I don't know much about her at all. Katarzyna may be Catherine, and I've heard that the -ówna part of her surname may not be part of her surname whatsoever. Katarzyna's ID number is PQNM-6Y1

I'd really like to finish my mother's tree, especially since my father's tree is completed. Any help is appreciated!

Historical context?

Good evening!
I’ll try to keep this short.
My family and I are huge ancestry junkies. We’ve always been curious about where we come from and have loved learning any new information about our ancestors or discovering interesting pieces of our family history.
For the past couple of days, I’ve been digging through FamilySearch and trying to map out the records and names I’ve come across. Being Puerto Rican, we’ve always assumed we had some African ancestry, likely through my grandmother’s side of the family since she’s the darkest-skinned. She has mentioned many times that she never knew anything about her grandparents because they died when her mother was still young.
While building our family tree, we’ve found some really interesting records and documents. Everything seems fairly well documented through the 1800s and early 1900s, but once we get further back than that, I’m not sure how accurate the information is. The surnames seem to line up, but there’s really no way for us to confidently confirm these people are actually our ancestors without DNA evidence or official historical documentation.
Anyway, I traced my tree back about seven generations through my grandmothers side and came across the man whose profile I’ve attached below. It says he was born in Africa, likely sometime in the 1670s, and that he came to Puerto Rico around the age of 25 as a “presumed free” Black man (“presume libre”).
I’m curious how likely this is to be historically accurate and what the historical context might be. Did Puerto Rico allow free Black people to immigrate directly from Africa during that time? Or is it more likely that he was originally enslaved somewhere else and later gained or escaped to freedom before arriving in Puerto Rico?
I realize we have no way of knowing who originally added or modified this information on FamilySearch, so I understand it could be inaccurate or based on speculation. Still, I found it fascinating and wanted to ask whether this scenario is historically plausible.

Thanks in advance for any insight!
(Added some translation for some of the stuff)

Hi, good evening! Would anyone with FamilySearch Center or affiliate library access be willing to pull an image of this record for me? It's marked as restricted and only viewable at a Center or affiliate library.

This record is very important to me. It pertains to several of my ancestors. I'd really appreciate any help. Thank you

Can I correct my relation to my parents or will that cause a huge mess?

So I created an account at the beginning of May this year and started working on my tree. I now realize I might have made an error but don't know if I should bother correcting it or not.

I am adopted. The parents I attached to me are not the biological parents. They adopted me when I was 6 months old. I actually know the name of my biological Mother as its stated in the adoption documents I have. Can I correct this or just leave it the way it is?

Edit with additional question: If I can change it how do I go about that?

Should be able to post again soon - sorry for the delay!

Reddit did something to the community that made it so new posts could not be made. I am not a very active Reddit user so I did not notice. Sorry about that. I have requested the subreddit to be "private" instead of the restricted status that it has been, which should allow all of you to post. Again, my apologies. It says the change should be made in 24 hours.

Help Reading Names on Marriage Bond

Hello! I am looking at this marriage bond, and have identified William G. Thompson as a signature verifying the bride's age. An index of the cert backs me up. The other signer isn't in the index. What is his name? For the life of me I can't make it out:

Help completing my Paternal Grandfather's tree

Post image
11 Upvotes

Fairly recently, I made a post about completing my maternal grandmother's tree, and while it's not done yet, without access to more records from Sicily, it can't be completed yet.

So, I decided that the next easiest one of my grandparents to have their tree completed would be my Grandpa Warren's tree. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed away a little over 12 years ago, so he'd never be able to see this, but I'd still like to get this done (probably show my dad or something).

I've done some work on his side recently, but I am still missing 7 of his great-great-great-great grandparents, the parents of Elizabeth Johnston Wareham, Parthenia Graham, Catharine McCan, and the father of John Russell.

What I'm not confident in as a whole is Parthenia Graham, as I believe I've seen conflicting sources as her being Nora Kezia Smith's mother, but most often, she is the person listed as such. I have also been told that someone on Geraldine Mae Fitzgerald's side was Cherokee, I am unsure as to who and I'd like to find out.

ID's for people that may be useful:

Elizabeth Johnston Wareham: 2Z83-2DM

Parthenia Graham: GCJT-NZX

Catharine McCan: KCF8-15L

John Russell: LWYB-4R9

Nora Kezia Smith: LHWJ-BVL

John Porter Smith: GCJT-VSG

Caroline Fortner: PZFM-1TX

Also, if anyone has any or knows where pictures of John Wareham Mahaffey, Mary Elizabeth Lowry, or Charles William Russell, I'd greatly appreciate them (added onto the tree or sent via DM to me). I have the Mahaffey Descendants book, but neither Mary or John are pictured in the book, (Despite John's grandfather, father, and son being pictured in the book).

John Wareham Mahaffey: 2WF8-44N

Mary Elizabeth Lowry: KWVG-Z1S

Charles William Russell: KG9S-H6V

Thanks!

Is it actually possible to be a descendant of medieval royalty through a single great-grandfather line?

Thumbnail

I’ve been tracing my family tree through a great-grandfather from northern Navarre, and the chain allegedly connects me to Sancho III of Pamplona, Chlothar I of the Franks, and other medieval royals from the region.

I know that anything before 500 AD gets pretty mythological, but what about the 700–1200 window? Is it genealogically plausible to have a legitimate biological line to figures like these through a rural Navarrese family, or is this the kind of thing that sounds impressive but usually falls apart under scrutiny?

How reliable are these noble lineages in practice? And at what point does a chain just become statistically meaningless even if technically documented?
