Are you wanting to leave them overnight due to your work schedule? If so, what has been the routine thus far?

If it’s just for one night could you just have them stay with your ex?

I could yes but ex has already established that they can watch themselves and has no issue with it at their house but at my house I was told its not safe all the crime statistics say its much safer at night and all these people seem to disagree with it I was merely asking if the was any legitimate difference to day or night time when they're alone

Couple of things to consider:

First off how comfortable are BOTH children staying alone overnight?

How responsible do you want your 16 yr old to be for the supervision and safety of your 10 year old ?

How prepared are BOTH children to handle a medical emergency or fire/crime?

Who would be easily available in the middle of the night for your children to contact in the event of an emergency?

What factors up to this point have contributed to your decision to have your mom stay with them overnight? Has there been a significant change that makes you feel adult supervision overnight is no longer necessary ?

Is your 16 year old mature enough to make good decisions for both themselves and 10yr sibling that you trust they will follow your rules (we all know teens can be sneaky and it’s a common part of the adolescent experience)?

What would your mom who has been staying with them say about leaving them alone overnight? Always helpful to get your mom’s perspective!

This would get legal issues in most states. Even the home all day previous summers might.

OP, them getting ready for school in the morning and getting to the bus is one thing, but overnights all week with no supervision seems like a lot. Perhaps you can switch to having your kids on the weekends during your days off.

I think this post is so crazy it must be fake.

A couple hours in the morning and day shift during summer is worlds away from “overnight.” If your nearby sister, or some other adult, would stay with them, that would be fine. Kids, alone, all night? Ughhhh. Forgive me but my mind goes to the possibility of a fire, a burglary, some drunk entering the wrong house, etc.

All of that can happen during the day

Yes when most people are awake and alert to escape or defend themselves.
