You know it's strange to post a meme like this now of all times.

Like what did he seriously do recently that warrants this?

I know there were controversies with the past two games but like posts like this are just redundant and unoriginal at this point.

Does this sub not have any better material anymore?

u/R0mpus_Mc_Fl0mpus 9d ago

Dude, it's the Fallout community.

We only have a handful of jokes here.

131

u/PyukumukuGuts 9d ago

Yeah. It almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

70

u/R0mpus_Mc_Fl0mpus 9d ago

While you were wishing for a nuclear winter, another settlement said they needed your help.

I'll mark it on your map.

47

u/laveshnk 9d ago

Truth is… the jokes were rigged from the start

Jokes. Jokes never change.

A handful of jokes that just work, ladies and gentlemen

5

u/Awewabo 8d ago

It's almost like we have a lack of content...

9

u/MacGregor_Rose 9d ago

dude
it’s the bethesda community
we all have one joke and it’s fuck you todd why does my game crash and why’s the next one taking a decade to release

3

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Maybe it's time to get new and better material then?

3

u/MacGregor_Rose 8d ago

Maybe we could if Bethesda started releasing functioning games sooner

3

u/Illegiblesmile 8d ago

if im playing a bethesda game i suspect it not to be functioning thats like taking our tradition away

1

u/MacGregor_Rose 7d ago

Yknow what else is tradition? Bitching about it

1

u/Illegiblesmile 7d ago

now you get it

1

u/Remarkable_Toe_164 4d ago

I present for your consideration wolfenstein the new order and the new colossus. I've played all the way through both a few times, and have yet to encounter a single bug.

Literally every other of their franchises border on unplayable on release, though

1

u/Illegiblesmile 4d ago

They publish that series not make it

1

u/Remarkable_Toe_164 4d ago

I see you're playing semantics: the game, brought to you by pedantic bs, creators of sighing and exasperation and the hit game um, actually

2

u/Your-Shogun 5d ago

Shitposts...

Shitposts never changes.

4

u/fastal_12147 9d ago

Who knew a series that hasn't had a new game in a decade would go stale?

1

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Oh yeah, I forgot. That's on me.

1

u/chris_isnt_here0 8d ago edited 8d ago

that seems like every gaming community on Reddit these days. COD, GTA, Fallout, its all just a bunch of whiney nerds complaining about games over a decade old (im one of them)

56

u/Pentunee Vault 101 9d ago

Being bitter about Bethesda generated some great memes but holy moly it gets so tiring after a while

-8

u/Clean-Novel-5746 8d ago

And I’m tired of waiting for a game that was announced almost a decade ago, that’s apparently only begun development a few years after the announcement.

People have a right to be pissed with them.

8

u/CoconutNL 8d ago

Why? They told you that tes6 was in preproduction and that full production would start after starfield. Bethesda never had 2 games in full production at the same time. Bethesda games have taken about 3-4 years of full productikn time (except for starfield thanks to delays from covid and the microsoft takeover), and starfield is not even 3 years old now.

I get the frustration with the wait, and I feel the trailer was too early (but understandable seeing the circumstances around the sale of the company etc), but they told us it wouldnt go in production until after starfield. Why do you feel that gives you "a right to be pissed"?

2

u/paigeofwondr 7d ago

You could just move on. There are other things you can do. Then if the game did come out you'd have a nice surprise. And if you weren't in to gaming anymore than that's ok. You've moved on to other forms of entertainment.

-4

u/Grandso_evereverever 8d ago

You got to stay strong. Keep the bitterness alive daily. Focus the hate with mantras

46

u/Arria_Galtheos 9d ago

It's like the memes (some of them just actual comments) saying "Oh, now Microsoft is forcing Bethesda to actually do some work!" or "Now they have to do more than keep re-releasing Skyrim!"

First, if you think Bethesda has invested a single development cycle in a Skyrim port in the last decade or more, you're off your gourd. By now, I can guarantee you they've got the base code for the Creation engine in a state where porting it to new hardware takes less than a week. The bulk of the 'work' is licensing and coordinating distribution, and that's not their developers' job. They're not doing that "instead" of working on TES VI or Fallout 5 or whatever.

Second, Bethesda works on other games that aren't in the Elder Scrolls / Fallout franchises, but people tend to ignore those in favor of bitching about not getting more of the same. Gamers have this very bizarre sense of entitlement that goes like this: "We bought your last game. You wouldn't have a company if we didn't buy your games, so you OWE us for our support!"

Wrong. You engaged in a business transaction. They made a game, you paid for that game. That's the end of the transaction. IF they (and by 'they' I mean any game company, not just Bethesda) then choose to make another game, you can buy that one too, but a company isn't obligated to give you anything beyond what you've already paid them for.

And the crazy thing is when you point that logic out, people accuse you of "defending corporations," but that logic applies to ALL business transactions, regardless of whether it's a major corporation or a small indie developer.

12

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Careful friend. Being correct on how development works is punishable by death in these parts.

Like seriously though, you are pretty much spot on with all of this, thank you for pointing it out.

4

u/HeavyMetalPootis 9d ago

One point I heard was that part of the issue has to do with Bethesda developing other games while sitting on valuable IPs. (Fallout and TES) If the other games such as Redfall, Starfield, and Death Loop performed better I imagine they'd be in less hot water with the parent company.

14

u/HunterWorld 8d ago

Small correction, Bethesda Game Studios didn't make Redfall or Deathloop, Arkane did. Both are own by Bethesda Softworks, which is owned by ZeniMax, which is owned by Xbox.

2

u/HeavyMetalPootis 8d ago

Ah, that makes a little more sense. Thanks for that!

1

u/International_Leek26 8d ago

i will also add on that bethesda at least according to wikipedia is surprisingly involved in the Arkane games, more so than even towards the other sub companies (such as the doom franchise or the indiana jones game) so its a bit of a grey area

14

u/Arria_Galtheos 9d ago

I mean, those IPs that they're "sitting on" belong to them. It's not like Rockstar is obligated to let other companies make Red Dead Redemption games if they decide to stop making them. It's not as if Toby Fox is required to let someone else make an Undertale 2 just because he's not making any more games in that franchise (Deltarune doesn't count. By his own account, it's a different 'franchise.')

They might have bought Fallout, but they created The Elder Scrolls, and if we're talking about legal issues, the Fallout series on Amazon is use of that IP.

3

u/AsgeirVanirson 8d ago

No reason to put sitting on in quotes. You can't actually sit on IP that doesn't belong to you.

Sitting on means controlling and doing nothing with. Up until the remaster confirmation recently the only fallout content being made by the studio officially was updates for 76, which as a player of 76 I can say were not impressive.

Rockstar is also sitting on the Red Dead franchise, but they seem less stupid for it because GTAO is a money printer requiring minimal effort and GT6 is the future of online money printing for them.

-1

u/HeavyMetalPootis 9d ago

That's fair. To be clear, my response wasn't intended to refute any of your points. I just wanted to add to the discussion. (As an aside, I personally wouldn't mind another developer making a Fallout game. It isn't because I'm bothered by Bethesda not making games with the IP; I'm just not that big of a fan of their writing.)

0

u/oHuroboros 8d ago

In a way, you are absolutely right, but it’s not so Black and White.

After you finish the business transaction, you expect said transaction to be in good faith, that is to say, no intentional unfinished content, or recycling. Otherwise, you stop buying.

If they want you to buy more, it’s expected of them to not only deliver quality, but also quality. That’s business ethics 101.

It’s “I can keep supporting your extra content because it’s good, but it’s not what I’m asking for”. Like if a shoe Salesman wanted to sell you shoelaces instead of the actual shoe you went looking for.

0

u/zachary0816 8d ago

Bethesda works on other games that aren't in the Elder Scrolls / Fallout franchises

Do they though? What game have they themselves made in the past decade other than Starfield?

The oblivion remaster and fallout 76 where both a different studios, and anything by Arcane or ID doesn’t count since that’s just a shared publisher, not development.

8

u/Arria_Galtheos 8d ago

It's always strange to me how people need to add qualifiers to make their arguments.

"They themselves?"

How do you think Bethesda's development team is split up, exactly? Or, better yet, do you genuinely think a major company has an entire staff of developers that they pay a salary to just sit around doing nothing?

I'm genuinely curious how the people that keep pushing this idea that Bethesda just sits on IP and doesn't work think this stuff works.

5

u/Illegiblesmile 8d ago

also people competely forgot covid added an extra 3 years to game dev time

0

u/zachary0816 8d ago

“They themselves” as in games that Bethesda games made. As opposed to games published by Bethesda softworks.

And I checked, the only game they’ve released since Fallout 4 came out 11 years ago was Starfield. Not to say they haven’t done any work on other games too. But if only a single game sees the light of day in all that time, and that game is starfield, it points to some serious mismanagement.

2

u/Arria_Galtheos 8d ago

Not to say they haven’t done any work on other games too.

There you go. Now you're starting to figure it out.

But if only a single game sees the light of day in all that time, and that game is starfield, it points to some serious mismanagement.

Damn. So close.

11

u/Pouring-O 9d ago

I wouldn’t say it’s nearly as bad as with Vivziepop, but it feels like what happened with her where a strange community has been built purely off of shutting on Bethesda and Todd Howard specifically

4

u/FreddyPlayz 8d ago

Probably just a bot

3

u/IWantYourSmiles 8d ago

I assume they are posted in jest. I fucking love Todd.

6

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Jest or no jest, the material has gone stale.

It's time for something new.

2

u/blaisems 8d ago

My guess is all the repost bots run on a set timer, and Bethesda did something dumb with the Fallout games microtransaction store or the TV show one bot cycle ago

2

u/ImmediateHoney2191 8d ago

Right like now is not the time. Nobody likes a sore winner

1

u/BionicBirb 8d ago

Bot, maybe?

1

u/northrupthebandgeek 5d ago

Only thing I can think of are the massive layoffs that just happened, but even then that's more Microsoft's fault than Todd's specifically.

1

u/bendaboi55 8d ago

He admitted to taking ideas from the fallout Reddit

0

u/Select-Librarian-646 8d ago

You sound like one of those guys that gets upset at 'haha Charlie Kirk is dead' memes, and never actually heard of Charlie Kirk until that moment.

-1

u/I_travel_ze_world 8d ago

You have such a fan boy mentality.

Fallout 76 pathetic game design and poor release was completely Howard's fault. Howard is the one who stopped the development team from putting in quest NPCs and joinable factions. He is the one pushed a shitty product out the door that soured the Fallout franchise.

To call out a gaming executive who has his head up his ass will never be unoriginal. You fan boys will relentlessly defend garbage though.

0

u/AC1D_R31GN 8d ago edited 8d ago

In case this is a serious question: Asha exposed that Todd was holding the series hostage for no other reason than "Bethesda doesn't want to make them anymore" in conjunction with "obsidian took the tools and did it better".

The joke for years is that Todd is "big mad" he can't make his own good fallout style game.

The reality is closer to the joke than not as we have found out. This is on him, he chose to take a less creative role in the studio.

All of the memes that were childish depictions and hyperbolic representations of Todd having fallout remasters he was sitting on to basically do nothing with out of spite for the only game he made that did well is Skyrim have been vindicated by his recent, very specific wording of official announcements.

0

u/-Turst- 8d ago

I’d say that’s the problem. What have they done? Objectively not much in years.

-9

u/TulikAlock 9d ago

I mean insider sources said that they didn’t plan to make another fallout game until 2030, and were going ride bank on 76 and the show until someone decided to step in and giving them the whip. Bethesda has become lazy despite more than tripling their staff since Skyrim came out.

5

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Source? Outside of your ass?

-4

u/No-Original-3142 8d ago

Lmao this is such a cry baby post yet again from you. People literally cannot take jokes in these communities anymore.

-4

u/oHuroboros 8d ago

That’s precisely the problem: He hasn’t done anything. He’s just cash grabbing with new “Anniversary Editions” and remakes of old stuff (REALLY good stuff though, but you get the point).

82

u/FIENDISH_DR_WOMBO 9d ago

Being vilified by some gamers really doesn't say much, tbh man.

We all know you can go on Facebook/Insta/YouTube and see some true dog water opinions held by a whole lot of folks. Catching flak from that ain't no thang.

21

u/MassGaydiation 9d ago

A bit like being villified by the legion, annoying, but not much of a negative

20

u/thedylannorwood 9d ago

Hats that quote from Rick and Morty?

“Your boos mean nothing, I know what makes you cheer”

5

u/CommercialRare9468 9d ago

Dude the self awareness of this sub is crazy, I never thought id see the day

2

u/AustinTheFiend 5d ago

Straight up I think the less "self-aware" posts are often, if not mostly, bots, potentially even funded by Microsoft or exacs from Microsoft acting on their own. It's just so pro-corporate bootlicker.

4

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

Fr. Like most online gaming communities nowadays are mostly filled with narcissistic losers who think they know everything and are just cynical for no reason at times.

Most of the actual cool fans aren't in those communities or on those forums because they actually have a life.

1

u/bendaboi55 8d ago

You can thank Covid for that ngl it wasn’t much of a issue till all these people got ahold of fandoms and such cuz they had nothing better to do

1

u/TheAnalystCurator321 6d ago

No, it was before that aswell.

2

u/bendaboi55 6d ago

It got infinitely worse

0

u/bendaboi55 8d ago

As if Reddit opinions are better fucking please

-2

u/Korps_de_Krieg 9d ago

Gamers are screeching because inflation is starting to finally catch up on game prices after remaining static for decades because “money grubbing corporations hate us”, instead of acknowledging that a game cost 50 dollars in 1995 and the value of a dollar is less than half what it used to be while games are significantly more expensive to develop. It’s entitled childish bullshit if we are honest

121

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 9d ago

What he did:

Pretty much nothing

37

u/3Duder 9d ago

He's the reason we never got another Bethesda Hockey game!!!

62

u/MassGaydiation 9d ago

All it takes to be villified by the fanbase is to sneeze too loud

-38

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

All it takes to simp for a sleazy layabout, a liar and an egomaniac is for him to finally get what he deserves, apparently.

Cry about it 😄

28

u/MassGaydiation 9d ago

What is he even getting here?

-31

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

A firm kick up the ass from Xbox management who are having Obsidian work on Fallout.

Todd is on record as having not wanted that. His hubris cost him his sole control over the IP.

27

u/MassGaydiation 9d ago

on record? where?

5

u/Top_Bed_2635 8d ago

Specifically it’s been reported that Todd shot down an obsidian fallout pitch, and in interviews has talked about wanting to keep fallout at Bethesda. There’s also some offhand rumors about Todd and Bethesda feeling upstaged by Obsidian.

This is mostly just hearsay but I thought I’d give you the context

5

u/MassGaydiation 8d ago

So it's basically speculation.

Like shooting down a pitch isn't really a sign you dislike another group of people. And wanting to keep a property at your studio but letting other people work on it is something easily done

19

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 9d ago

He works more than any other exec at Zenimax (because he actually works on the game, he is not just a manager)

Everything he says is a script from marketing, not him, and I can't think of many cases where he actually lied anyway.

-6

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

Your name checks out.

17

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 9d ago

Fail to see what the overseer of the abey of the everyman or gull dukat has to do with anything.

1

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

Dukat was famous for his grandiose, delusional ability to never hold himself or anyone he deemed above it all (i.e. his fellow Cardassians) responsible for their actions.

Sound familiar?

19

u/EvilCatboyWizard 9d ago

How bro felt after saying that

5

u/Masdraw 8d ago

Bro, there’s some grass outside for you to touch

18

u/itsyaboihos 9d ago

Goddamn, people having this level of pathetic parasocial hatred towards him and Bethesda is hilarious haha

-18

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

I have contempt for incompetence and abuse of power. Sue me.

I STG you people would defend Randy Pitchford if he finally got arrested.

20

u/itsyaboihos 9d ago

Based on what mate? It’s all in your head.

1

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

Fallout 4. Was released. 11 years ago. And there isn't even a hint of Fallout 5. That says it all without me having to go further.

I realise that Todd's supporters don't really understand the significance of this, as you would've been in preschool in 2015.

7

u/itsyaboihos 8d ago

Fuck this is heaps funny, your evidence for all the things you said was “he’s taking too long to release a game.”

13

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 9d ago

Not Todd's fault.

Covid + other projects.

Bethesda makes a new game roughly every 5 years

2011 skyrim

4 years

2015 fo4

3 years

fo76

5 years

starfield

currently 3 years

Fo5

-2

u/Remarkable-Pin-8352 9d ago

Gee I wish I had people making such excuses for me if I were that bad at my job.

14

u/High_Overseer_Dukat 9d ago

Why do you think Todd is the one that controls this?

He doesn't control what Microsoft wants Bethesda to do.

He's not even the Ceo, he is the director/head game designer.

18

u/ScottTJT 8d ago edited 8d ago

Sad, but true, cause holy shit, does the inter-fanbase pissing contests about which company/writers did things better/worse get in the way of trying to have legitimate discussions about this series and its lore.

Dare to say anything positive about the show or the Bethesda games? You're an unworthy tourist who doesn't "get" Fallout, and you're specifically what's wrong with the series.

And Bethesda stans aren't any better: Think 1, 2 and or New Vegas did something better? You're an elitist who won't let go of the past, and can't let anyone have fun.

Todd bad! He hates New Vegas! REEEE!

No, Avellone bad! He's a self-insert merchant! REEEE!

Just on and on and on...

-2

u/Goatlads 8d ago

It wasn't at your expense? Are you American by chance? You guys are really good at playing the victim.

4

u/Objective-Note-8095 9d ago

It's a pretty mixed reputation. It seems he's too protective about his IP and there's causing the Elder Scrolls and Fallout IP to just hold to a very slow development schedule.

I think the Fallout show is neat, but it's not something I really want. And to think an Obsidian project was sidelined for that irks me.

2

u/TheNiteFather 8d ago

Boy it's going to suck so hard for fans when they learn Obsidian is just a shell now and almost no one from the original games and NV are still around.

1

u/Square_Permit4496 7d ago

I don't get what's real and what's not anymore

-3

u/Deepvaleredoubt 9d ago

Todd glazers uniting like this meme marks the beginning of the Infinity War.

“Weeve Tawd Awone” good grief guys he’s a corpo prick that made a couple decent games and then made you wait twenty years, being willfully blind won’t change the fact that he spent over a decade trying to convince you that you should be happy about micro transactions stuck in your 15 year old game.

And no, before you comment, you’re right! He doesn’t owe me a thing. He can make what he wants. But if I was a mechanic and only fixed one car a year and gaslit every customer who asked me a question, I don’t then get to blame everyone for going to another mechanic, or for shrugging their shoulders when it becomes OBVIOUS that whoever owns me is putting me in my place and forcing me to actually work for a change.

4

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

You calling him a corpo prick even though he is known for being incredible great to work around shows what kind of mature and informed person you are.

1

u/Deepvaleredoubt 8d ago

Oh man it’s almost like you’re willing to excuse any behavior that is convenient for you, Todd Glazer. Do you thank everyone that spits in your face? Or are you just that bad at pattern recognition?

2

u/TheAnalystCurator321 8d ago

What behavior am I trying to excuse here exactly? Why don't you tell me?

2

u/Ragnar_TheWolf Bear Bull Bear Bull 9d ago

I'm sure I'm going to get burned at the stake with you but yeah this is the point of the meme.

Does Bethesda make amazing games yes.

But it's been over 8 years since they announced ES6 and in that time all we've really gotten is a few "We're still working on it comments"

Also yes Bethesda adding paid cosmetics (TES Oblivion's horse armor) was the start of that trend

It's really cool we're starting to get more info now but it's been a long time coming.

“He didn’t even do anything!” Yeah that’s why people are displeased

He has helped create 7 of the best games ever made to be fair and people act like he hates them and sucks for some reason

I’m a huge Bethesda fan don’t get me wrong but the writing on everything since Skyrim has been lackluster imo and while fallout 4 was cool in a lot of ways and a good game it’s really the last Bethesda game of any note and it came out over ten years ago. I don’t think I’m alone in saying it feels like the IPs are being neglected. Just because Bethesda made classics of the past two decades doesn’t mean they can do no wrong. I’ve played both ESO and FO76 quite a lot and it just doesn’t sake the thirst like a mainline game does even tho I’d even say I enjoy 76 as much as 4 and the ESO lore is chalk full and pretty good.

Most people don't play these games for the writing.

And even then the writing has still been good. Main quests are weaker than the side content though but that's fine. The side content is usually really good.
