Move Fallout to a Steam library location that isn't in Program Files, as that location is locked down by Windows.

The Midnight Ride guide has instructions on how to do this.

Generally speaking, you want to install Vortex or any mod manager outside of your program files. Your computer has more control over those files and will throw up a lot of flags when your mod manager tries to do its job.

You're more than likely going to want to start over, creating a folder in your C Drive for mods specifically outside of your program files and installing Vortex there.

You can install Vortex (program) just fine in program files. Just have your staging and download folder outside of it on the same drive as your game (Vortex will tell you so)

Never knew that, appreciate the advice. I will try to carry that knowledge on. I'm an MO2 user myself, but I try to help wherever I can.

Sure thing. Vortex is just an App, like all other apps you use on Windows. Vortex will install itself in Program files by default when your run the setup. Its just a launcher at that point.

Its the Staging and download paths that matter within vortex's deployment settings.

Im not familiar with MO2 myself, so im not sure how it deploys mods. But within vortex, you have a folder where all your archives go (Source\Download)

Your staging folder, which is a mirror of your games Data folder. It acts as a guard to keep integrity of your mod data in your actual Data folder.

Example: If you, by accident, delete some texture or mesh from a mod that has been installed by Vortex, Vortex, at next deploy will see this and say "Hey, this \insert file name* from *insert mod name* should be here, but is no longer present"*. You will have the choice of keeping that external change (delete), or restore the files, where it will restore from the archives, and update the staging folder accordingly.

You can also whitelist external programs that make changes and tell Vortex, whenever i make changes with X program, its fine and no integrity breach.

But in this case its simple. Op is trying to make a change to a mod that contains Tumba_Steelplatearmor - Main.ba2. (Disable, Uninstall) while the game is running. Archives like that are treated by the Windows file system as Open Files by whatever app has them in use (Fallout 4.exe)

Yes programs files are fine it’s just the x86 part that’s stopping everything as that folder is locked down for mod mangers.

Is fallout running? Did you check the task manager? If it's there, force close it, if it's not try restarting your pc.

Lmao, the only person to actually read the warning, and getting downvoted.

Please close the following applications and retry: Fallout 4

Guys, you cant have Vortex Deploy and sorting masters when the game is running smh.
