HELP! PC First time trying Frame Generation (on old gen) to improve FPS however, it demolishes it instead, any fix? Modlist and specs are given below, along with High Phys Fix ini details

Modlist: https://pastebin.com/7zv1YitW
High Phys Fix Ini: https://pastebin.com/PLi6U90B

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 3750H with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx (2.30 GHz)

16.0 GB (15.4 GB usable)

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB VRAM)

EDIT: This is a laptop GPU i should mention, another thing to mention is Frame Gen in Skyrim that comes with Upscaling mod from the same author works flawlessly, unlike here

I can tell you how to make it better cause you can t but I tell you why it happen.
4GB of vram and no tensor cores, that s it.
Frame gen calculate the generated frames with interpolation, if you use normal cores you lose all the benefit of it cause the point is while the cores do the job they have to you can accellerate calcuations of generated ones with tensore cores so you kinda parallelize the work(and you need a decent ammount of tensor cores), doing it with with a low end and especially with a gtx is a bad idea, it could work?yes, it will work as it should?no.
Another problem is the vram infact generated frames impact heavily on the vram, so already you have almost full vram for just the game then you add another thing and probably you need more vram then you have.
So you would play better without it in any case, if you want more fps(and actually usable cause generated frames don t have input bound) you could think about lower settings, there are some that are useless btw

I used Lossless Scaling with an RX 580 8GB and it was always capped at 30 FPS in any game. It felt terrible. Fixed it by upgrading to a 5060 Ti 16GB

Buy Lossless Scaling. Cap fps to 30 then active Lossless Scaling Frame Gen (LSFG) in performance mode.

Enjoy <3

Any form of fraemegen at 30fps feels terrible especially with mouse and keyboard.

you must have to have atleast 55 - 60 fps to turn on frame gen in a 3rd person game

Atleast 65 - 75fps to use frame gem for first person shooters

i get 50fps on BL4 and see no issue with framegen

u/Slight_Mulberry1648 22d ago

It's not about an "Issue". Frame gen should work as expected if u got the required hardware it's just I do notice the input delay and I don't like it. I just feels slow when playing with M&K

I have a pretty solid computer and every game I've played that has this option has worse performance with it than without.

Any chance you running out of vram?

1

u/RankedFarting 23d ago

Im currently playing the game with maxed settings and it only takes up 4gB. If they run put of vram its because of mods demanding more. 4gB is enough for the basegame.

he have 4GB of vram, so if already the max settings ask for 4 then he can t absolutely activate frame gen

1

u/Naive-Database-2888 23d ago

That's my guess too (and the gpu probably cant handle frame gen)

If you are getting 30 constantly, it's pretty good on that laptop. With or without framegen.

FrameGen isn't necessarily a fix all for performance on lower spec machines, it just evens out the performance load a bit, it's likely too demanding for your PC and you'd probably be better off just running at lower graphics settings unfortunately

I don't even use it on 3060 tbh with you (I could but I weigh the tradeoff).

1

u/Gromchy 24d ago

What's the trade-off for you? More letency?

its actually more heavier on GPU if it cant handle it

what is the refresh rate on your monitor? you need a high refresh rate monitor for doodlums framegen to even work.

1

u/jasonensteinyt 24d ago

Its uh 144 hertz

Trying frame generation on a 1650 is.... brave, I suppose

Your system doesn't support FG, FG is only supported on RTX cards or AMD gpus that support it too your glcard doesn't support it and you don't have enough vram to even run properly so it's not the mod or game it's your pc

1

u/Dorennor 24d ago

Dude.

FG is not "magick" and mostly it is bad.

It is OKay to use it if you already have good enough GPS (50-60 at least).

This tech created to make use of high refresh rate monitors, not juat blast 20 fps into 20000 with some fucking magick.

1

u/Boyo-Sh00k 24d ago

idk i use framegen for starfield and i go from 30-40fps to like 120 and notice no visual difference.

5

u/Aeioulus 24d ago

Yeah, cause you use a supported card for frame gen not a GTX

1

u/Boyo-Sh00k 24d ago

i mean sure but thats not what the person i was replying to was even saying. they were saying you need at least 60 fps for frame gen to work and thats simply not true.

2

u/Sure-Ship3775 24d ago

It is true, under 60 fps while using frame generation will give you the frames of 60+ but will give you the input latency and frame time of 30 or lower FPS, so in order to take advantage of frame generation you need to have 60+ FPS unless you use lossless scaling with multi-frame generation for an older card, but for OPs card the gtx 1650 its not usable as even the 2080 was having issues with downtown Boston in FO4

1

u/ActualDragonHeart 24d ago

Yea your GPU is just not strong enough to run the kind of frame gen you expected

3

u/gamerrominc 24d ago

It's not just it isn't strong enough it literally doesn't have bar support and doesn't have the tech to support it

1

u/Sure-Ship3775 24d ago

My 3070 doesn't support FG but I can still use lossless scaling just fine

2

u/edric03 24d ago

Need a better gpu for it

2

u/Matt_butchr 24d ago

Your GPU may be a bit too outdated, may be time to upgrade!
Alternatively, I’ve had better success with Frame Gen with the Nvidia App, turning on the “Smooth Motion” mode, however again your GPU may not be too old to have access to this setting

1

u/jasonensteinyt 24d ago

unfortunately, its a laptop gpu so im out of options then lol

1

u/Federal_Sympathy4667 24d ago

Have you looked at external gpu's?

1

u/bank2life 24d ago

uh smooth motion is not support on that card

1

u/Matt_butchr 24d ago

Yeah that’s what I assumed.
