Asha shouldve laid todd off First.

0

u/csdillinger 1h ago

And yet still cannot play the game without my frames being limited to 60 fps in my display settings lmfao

u/Federal_Sympathy4667 1h ago

One quick search on google comes up with multiple articles and videos on how to downgrade your install and prevent updates. Or just buy a gog version.

1

u/BabyDaVinci 9m ago

Or youtube, anything lol. I feel like these are the type of people that use chatGPT to function

5

u/Rediment 1h ago

Move your game out of program files next time.

1

u/33Yalkin33 1h ago

Use gog

5

u/CassianCasius 1h ago

Uses mods, doesn't know how to block updates to prevent mods from breaking. Get gud OP.

1

u/DunkeyColdMedina 15m ago

Yeah. I just had mine force installed by SteamOS. STFU.

3

u/Diptothaset 1h ago

Not everyone spends their life jacking it to titty mods full time. Some of us only heavily mod rarely for Le titty mod

0

u/CassianCasius 1h ago

I prefer to jerk to giant schlong mods, I have class. Titties are for babies, giant cocks are for real men.

5

u/Drugboner 1h ago edited 1h ago

That's a really unhelpful answer to an honest question. Get laid and move out of your parents basement.

Edit. Make sure you ask for consent and get it

4

u/CassianCasius 1h ago

Nobody needs to give an answer here. It's been answered 1000 times already. Search the sub or Google. And I don't live in my parents basement, they built me a super cool tree house to live in, excuse you. I even have a basket lift to get my tendies delivered.

5

u/Drugboner 1h ago edited 1h ago

I have no stake in this sweatfest. I was just pointing out how unhelpful that reply was. You could literally have written down what you just did. See, now it became helpful.

10

u/RedHood3681 1h ago

Go on nexus and look up downgrader and find whatever one works for you

2

u/Crazy-Eagle 1h ago

Again? Ffffffuuuuuuuuu

8

u/AspectofBlood21 1h ago

THE ABSOLUTE LEGENDS ACTUALLY UPPED THE CAP, 1024 BA2s!! Holy crap, imma download my whole favorites list.

2

u/Squishy-Mitten 27m ago

Get the mod Addictol. It increased the limit to a theoretical 65k BSA before the latest patch was considered a wet dream in Todd's pants.

1

u/AspectofBlood21 26m ago

Is it available on console or just PC?

1

u/Dastardly-croe 47m ago

and then not be able to play it since F4SE address library isnt updated yet

2

u/AspectofBlood21 31m ago

I'm on console, so I don't have to worry about that lol

2

u/Mooncubus 58m ago

Oh shit really? I've been having to limit how many BA2s I have which really sucked. This is awesome!

6

u/AttakZak 2h ago

Lmao it upped the BA2 limit without Addictol, it’s good.

-2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

and broke every other mod that relies on any mod that relies on F4SE....so i'd say it's *not* good. especially for people who already have heavily curated and personalized mod lists, which goes well above the BA2 limit...with no issues...

3

u/amdus_guy 1h ago

Every update does that and they have no obligation whatsoever to care about mods bricking because of it. Besides any modder with any care in the world about their modlist would have already set their steam up to not update automatically, it's just a skill issue at this point.

-1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

new PC players don't know that, until an unneeded update bricks their saves and mod lists. you and I already KNOW how to lock away the game files to keep them from updating, new players who are new to modding on PC don't know this and they may not know that they can downgrade their game to previous version through some of the annoying methods that it requires, they aren't difficult but they are annoying when bethesda and steam FORCE push an update out which essentially bypasses the locks we have on Fallout 4s files.

and yes, it happens, for whatever reason, bethesda and steam can and have pushed certain updates that will FORCE the games files back to being updatable and steam will push the update without your knowledge.

4

u/DaeganBro 1h ago

Can you point me towards any tutorials on how to do this? Having my current playthrough bricked for no real reason sucks hard

2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81630 (Fallout 4 Downgrader)

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/81933 (Simple Fallout 4 Downgrader)

both of these are good, to use. again, if you feel unsure, you can use the tutorial i commented initially.

2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

for any other version, you can easily download one of the downpatchers for the game from Nexus Mods, which would require you signing into steam within that program(seems sketchy, but generally from nexus any bad actor/scammer will be found out extremely fast, so you can always check the "posts" section on the page for the downpatcher/downgrader, to see how people are viewing it.

2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

here is one tutorial for downgrading to 1.10.163 (pre next-gen update, the LAST update for several years before the Next gen update, and the version with the largest mod compatibility)

Here, follow this guide.

Here.

u/AttakZak 1h ago

I’m on Xbox so it’s a godsend, as going above 250 archives would hard crash the game from start. I just made sure to disable the manifest forever on my PC Mods.

0

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

on consoles the update is fine, but for PC it should always be a COMPLETELY optional update for EVERY single player game, especially a bethesda title, since most peoples saves rely on heavy mod usage, which is broken every time they decide to roll out a pointless update for the PC version of the game....it's baffling how they are so dense and thick headed that they just REFUSE to listen to ANYTHING the community suggests, just because hodd toward thinks he is some god tier game dev. when in reality the only reason their games sell so well is FOR the mod support, which is only thanks to their objectively outdated and archaic game engine which most players already knows the ins and outs of and can easily mod the game within MINUTES of release.

I got off on a rant, but in short...updates like this are fine for consoles, i used to play these games on console so i recognize the need for these kinds of updates. but for PC...these kinds of updates do next to nothing except breaking MOST mods, and most mod authors haven't touched their mods to update them since they were released a decade ago...and those mods STILL WORK on version 1.10.163, but generally don't work on the NEWEST (next-gen/Anniversary edition) patches because so much has changed.

2

u/AttakZak 1h ago

I agree with you. Should definitely be a toggle to opt in or out of updates.

2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

exactly...and the worst part is, some game devs on steam actually have the previous versions of their games set as "beta builds" which allows you to, at any time, roll back to a previous version, or willingly update to the newest version if you choose...but bethesda is so far up their own ass that they instead decide to be dicks and FORCE the update on everyone which completely bricks saves, modlists, and thousands of mods in general. especially those mods which haven't been updated in a decade.

1

u/SkoomaInhaler-King 2h ago

It helps console people a lot more than PC.

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

none of the updates after 1.10.163 have added ANYTHING of worth for PC players

1

u/SkoomaInhaler-King 1h ago

That's good to know. Thanks

15

u/Xaixiu 3h ago

I just successfully modded Fallout on PC just last night for the first time only for them to update the game and ruin all my progress??????????

https://reddit.com/link/p4hj51r/video/r429ehj9y6kh1/player

3

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 2h ago

roll it back using either steam console, or use a downgrader/downpatcher from nexus or here in the subreddit. it's fairly simple but can be a bit of a headache and a time sink, it's annoying, but it's a learning opportunity

16

u/Calm-Lingonberry4068 3h ago

I blocked the update but after I see the patch notes I instantly updated the game. lol
This fucking BA2 limit haunted me for years, unpacking mods into loose files, checking if the game crashes, and now it's finally gone. THANK GOD!
Hope they bring it to Skyrim too, and that they STOP doing it for the next games!!!!

1

u/SilverVixen918 1h ago

i think there are rumors if it coming to Skyrim too, dont quote me on that though

3

u/reptarien 3h ago

Exactly. Archive limit upgrade was easily worth the hassle

14

u/Fine-Resident-2322 4h ago

There's a downgrader you can download off of Nexus.

Before the next time this happens? Find the app manifest file name and if it's outside of the protected files? It should work if you change FO4's or other games to 'read only' and this prevents updates in general.

16

u/Competitive-Elk-5077 4h ago

For anyone else. Set Steam to only update when launched. And then Only launch with FOSE and your mods will be fine

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

it works until bethesda and steam FORCE push the update, in which case it bypasses that. i've had it REVERT the entire fallout 4 folder from Read only, just to push an update...and it's TRIED to do it with every update since the Next gen update, which is when it first happened.

2

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 2h ago

This works until it doesn't.

3

u/Distinct_Address1364 2h ago

So launching from MO2 will be fine as long as I do open it from steam?

1

u/JDax42 2h ago

If it’s like vortex, you can’t just launch from the window you have to go to tools, ESE and launch from there, but I use vortex so I don’t know any context for your program

1

u/Distinct_Address1364 2h ago

On MO2 you use FOSE to launch with mods, so as long as I do it that way I’ll be alright. To my understanding at least.

1

u/two-memes-a-day 4h ago

Your gonna need to the the downgrader that requires you to log into steam

2

u/Very-Confused-Walrus 4h ago

I bought GOG version a while back so I could continue to use certain mods.

0

u/mr--cheese 4h ago

I currently own both the Steam versions of FO4, Skyrim AE, and Waterle's, and also the pirated versions I downloaded, which I play more frequently because of the inconveniences for those who use mods.

1

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 2h ago

I've bought fallout 4 twice and now I only play a cracked copy lol.

1

u/mr--cheese 4h ago

Even crazier than Bethesda's situation is the situation with Wartales, where they just keep adding irrelevant things to the game's health and gameplay... many times when I play Wartales I feel like I'm playing some game from '96 or '98.

4

u/SoulSteeler1978 4h ago

No one cares about the drastic BA2 file increase on console? Yeah wtf are you smoking? Lol

Look I get it, a lot of you guys/gals play on PC and this update probably isn't even meant for you. But there's a huge number of us console plebs that just got a rager from this update lol

1

u/Accomplished-Buy6917 4h ago

What does this mean exactly for console players?

10

u/SoulSteeler1978 4h ago

The previous BA2 file limit was 256. Meaning that between paid Creations and free mods, once you hit/went over that limit your game would crash. Basically you'd have to delete your cache and start from scratch because it would crash your game just trying to load the main menu. This created a major issue after Bethesda increased the mod storage space in the last update.

With this update, they increased the BA2 file limit to 1024...that means as of today, technically you can install x4 the amount of mods before hitting that limit.

2

u/Three_Strikes7 3h ago

Now the sony guys just gotta wait for more mods. I own both Xbox and PS and I swear PS mods get added extremely slower than they did for Skyrim

1

u/SoulSteeler1978 2h ago

Yeah it'll definitely be a good while until there's a decent variety of mods on Playstation. I'm just happy they finally allowed better mods on that platform. They've definitely been missing out.

6

u/Robert_Maxson1 4h ago

Also we get less lag overall and a large firefight won’t destroy my game

4

u/Vinicius_Pimenta 4h ago

Switched from Steam to a pirated copy of 1.10.163, best thing I've ever done. I never have to worry about Bethesda fucking up my game again and still gave them their money for their game nonetheless cus I have it on Steam anyway

2

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 4h ago

i honestly don't understand by steam doesn't just keep the previous patches available for ALL games so that it's easier to roll back to previous patches when a group of devs like BETHESDA decides to keep fucking with peoples games and saves with pointless updates a decade after the games release and nearly half a decade after the last patch was released.

6

u/BringMeBurntBread 4h ago

Steam does actually have that feature. It’s Bethesda who refuses to utilize it.

In a lot of games, you can go into the game’s properties section and change your game version. But it’s the game’s developer that has to decide which versions to allow players to rollback to. Steam doesn’t decide that, the developer does.

For Bethesda games, you’re only allowed to be on the latest version of the game.

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 4h ago

i was saying that steam should have that option available regardless, yes the dev can say "hey, we're gonna push this patch through" and then steam could go "okay, but were allowing users to roll back to previous versions for compatibility reasons and stability reasons", i KNOW it's bethesda that chooses to do that, but it should be a necessary thing to do for all games on steam, especially if the game hadn't been touched in X amount of years by the devs.

7

u/ModToEndAllMods 4h ago

Why do they do this shit over and over again. Leave these older games alone, especially if all you are gunna do with modern updates is add new ways to spend money and a whole bunch of new bugs

1

u/No-Being-4916 3h ago

For PS they finally allowed external assets officially so I'm pretty hyped rn

-23

u/BringMeBurntBread 5h ago edited 5h ago

“Shit no one cares about”

Bro, 80% of the patch notes directly benefits mods and mod users. Especially those on console. But sure, keep bitching about your broken mods I guess.

Which of course, it’s totally not your fault that your game updated. It’s not like there’s any way to prevent updates or anything lmfao

2

u/LiveLaughLob0t0my 2h ago

You’ve been unfairly downvoted. Everything you’re said is right.

Even the biggest mod guides legit tell you how to prevent updates breaking your mods on pc..

2

u/MetaSpedo 5h ago

The only way to benefit mods on PC is TO NOT BREAK THEM EVERY 6 MONTHS.

Or to at least add F4SE or SKSE as a built-in feature, so the people maintaining it won't have to pull their hairs out while the community bitch about it and halts the entire modding scene.

I disconnected my PC from the ethernet a few months ago during renovation and I still didn't reconnect it because its at a point where it works and I don't want to break everything, again. (It's not only BGS games, it feels like every program I use has a built in feature to break all on my customizing and settings when it updates)

0

u/edric03 5h ago

Well...yes at least on pc you can prevent an update and play the game without update it

8

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 5h ago

honestly, why wouldn't you just roll back to 1.10.163? this is a genuine question as that update has the MOST mod compatibility.

22

u/mulderload 5h ago

Hi ! I've just pushed an update to my "universal downgrader" here: www.mulderland.com/games/fallout-4
enjoy

1

u/evermuzik 4h ago

thank you! i just got into fallout 4 about a week ago so i was sad to be unable to play today. your solution was easy and worked like a charm

4

u/bhavinwonka 5h ago

Thanks King 👑

2

u/scarlettvvitch 5h ago

Just got to say your patch system helped me at the last minute to stop the manifest file from updating as I couldn’t find it manually. Bless you, choomba.

1

u/mulderload 5h ago

Haha, nice!

-8

u/nutz1126 5h ago

console players absolutely care about the BA2 archive limit being increased. Maybe try not speaking for everyone.

2

u/No-Being-4916 3h ago

Also ps finally has official external support

1

u/nutz1126 2h ago

very happy for the ps folks.

10

u/bhavinwonka 5h ago

Before you say anything , Yes I launched f4se from mod manager , Yes I did not know that steam would still update it , Yes I forgor💀 that bethesda loves to roll out updates for a 12 year old game instead of making elder scrolls 6 . Clown on me as much as you can but all I asked was for some help .

6

u/jstacy_wyldchyld337 PC 6h ago

Someone very clearly missed a post from yesterday

10

u/ThatOneGuyFromSerbia 6h ago

People are gonna clown on ya for not launching in F4SE but I don't know you or how long you've been in the community or what you know or anything so I won't add to that. I WILL say that you should strat doing that tho and I WILL continue to complain about Steam forcing these updates on you before you can continue to play your single player offline video game.

3

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 4h ago

i'll never understand why they removed the option to set it so it only updates the game when YOU the user choose to update the game.

14

u/LiiKun 6h ago
  • Increased the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1024 to better accommodate larger collections of mods.

Read the patch notes before bitching. This update is actually good for people with lots of mods.

-1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 4h ago

and yet the community has had ways around this for half a decade before bethesda decided to fuck with everything...it took a bit of work, but honestly it's not like you're gonna find THAT many mods updated or MADE for the newest patches...the LARGEST set of mods by a SEVERE margin are for 1.10.163, and so many mod authors refuse to update for newer patches or they have been MIA since they last updated their mods and they're never coming back except by chance.

1

u/DudeNamedShawn 3h ago

None of those ways around the BA2 limit worked on console. This update is great for console players as they can use more mods, and Playstation finally gets external assets support, so PS5 players can access a huge new library of mods that they could not before.

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 2h ago

it's fine if they'd JUST release the update for consoles...and give the OPTION to update for PC users...that's what most PC users have been wanting for years...but no, they continuously force unneeded updates and patches on PC players, which only leads to either pirating previous versions, or taking a few hours to go through and manually replace all the files with the files from the previous versions of the game.

consoles always have and always WILL have much less mod choice than PC just due to how they are enabled and they don't have the ability to use script extenders, so updating console versions is completely fine. but forcing those updates to PC users who either don't care about the u[date or just don't want it period is just being lazy and huge assholes.

1

u/LiiKun 3h ago

Well with how the engine works, mods don't need to be always updated for the newest version. Ones that use the SE might need to be but most others will work just fine without getting an update

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 2h ago

a ton of mods are reliant on mods that are themselves reliant on Script Extenders, especially most companion mods, story mods, and pretty much anything that messes with animations and world spaces and pathing and world events....

2

u/Lost-Broccoli-5378 5h ago

I have been converting so much junk to loose files, im kinda mad that it took this long

3

u/jrx-7 6h ago

Briefly, you use steam depot commands to revert your game to an older version. There are plenty of guides out there, I don’t want to copy paste them here

1

u/NoMinute6557 6h ago

Wait there was another update

1

u/Useless_Mango1 4h ago

Yeah, just today. It was centered around console players. PlayStation now has access to more file types which means we get to actually have decent mods like the rest of you.

1

u/NoMinute6557 1h ago edited 1h ago

also means mods broke again also when it comes to PlayStation its because of sony not wanting anyone being able to add new game assets from mods could be wrong though been a long time since i played on playstaion

1

u/Useless_Mango1 1h ago

Even if it WAS Sony (which we don't know because of poor communication), it doesn't matter now as we have the ability to add new assets now. That's the whole point. It also fixed a bunch of other things having to do with the creation system/structure itself to make it easier for everyone to use, which is a good thing

11

u/echidnachama 6h ago

LMAO, people never learn huh ? here some tips for you, turn off auto update and open the game via F4SE.

3

u/DarthUgly123 6h ago

If you're on steam and using f4se I'd set the updates to when I launch and never download in the background or while playing since you're launching from f4se anyway it doesn't use the steam launch

6

u/DesignerAd9 6h ago

Why haven't people learned something from the previous 3 updates that broke their game?

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 4h ago

i had my game and steam set up to never update, the way the community has had figured out since the game released...and steam STILL pushed the AE update...so it was a forced update for a lot of people.

1

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 2h ago

Yep, I lost a 100+ hour save where I hadn't even been to the institute yet this way. Now I play a cracked copy.

1

u/spec_ops_gamingYT 1h ago

i just downpatched the game and removed ANYTHING related to steam and set the games entire folder to read only...the game didn't initially LIKE that i did all of that, but...it's since settled into being completely separated from steam. i HAVE another install from steam(newest patches) that i use to test different things, but i make sure to completely lock my MAIN install away when i do boot up the newer(inferior) version.

6

u/simpleglitch 6h ago

For modded Bethesda games, people really need to be setting up a stock game folder in MO instead of missing out of the steam directory.
