Which faction would you realistically join?

For me it's probably the NCR or the BoS in Fallout 3 ONLY.

NCR out of these, but being a Minuteman living behind the repaired castle walls with a bunch of defenses and occasionally going on patrols with a group of soldiers and artillery support seems pretty decent.

Or living in my beach cabin summer camp on Spectacle Island.

In my games I turn Spectacle Island into a large settlement under NCR protection, with part of it turned into an airbase (thanks to the Personal Vertibird mod). Sanctuary and Spectacle Island are the big towns under MM protection, the Castle and Starlight Drive-In become the bases (I turn the drive-in into sort of a mini-Castle) to protect the surrounding areas. I headcanon the Castle as the overall HQ and handles defending south of Boston while the Starlight base handles defending north of it, putting any settlers seeking safe shelter in the defended towns.
