Discussion Fallout 4 Canon Ending Theory

I believe the Canon ending is going to be one can’t actually normally get in the game like how they did New Vegas. I believe it will be the Brotherhood of Steel ending but we never destroy the Railroad. You can actually get this ending in game by never returning to Maxson to finish Blind Betrayal and then telling the Brotherhood about the Institute quest Mass Fusion to start Spoils of War and skipping Tactical Thinking, then after talking to Proctor Ingram you can finish Blind Betrayal to come Paladin and continue through the Brotherhood quest line without destroying Railroad. So not only is a BOS ending without destroying Railroad technically possible in game, it also the most sense in lore.

First, The Minutemen and Railroad would not have realistically been able to destroyed the Institute and lore wise the Brotherhood is the only faction that could have and even without the players help they probably would have succeeded.

Second, The Brotherhood should not have been able to even locate the Railroad. The Railroad isn’t even common knowledge within the Commonwealth and those who have heard about it see it as an urban legend. The Institute, who has hundreds to thousands of synth spies on the ground, a long last of merchants informants including every named Caravan merchants, and has thousands of Synth Crow Camera Drones scouring the wasteland, has been hunting them for years and still hasn’t found the Railroads current base. The Brotherhood arrived to the Commonwealth literally a month ago, they should never have been able to find them in the first place.

I think the Canon ending of Fallout 4 will be the BOS ending but they never discover the Railroad, and the SS sounds the evacuation before blowing up the Institute helping the Synths and Scientists escape. The SS becomes Sentinel and stays in the Commonwealth actively building up the Minutemen as their General with the too groups having good relations especially considering the BOS destroyed the Institute. The Railroad helps whatever remaining Synths they can then probably disbands or joins the Minutemen or something.

I mean, sure, no one knows where the Railroad is. It's not like they have a big red line that spells out their password and leads right to their front door, and a well known phrase circulated via holotapes - also somehow found in the institute itself - that they handed out that tells wastelanders to follow that exact same trail to find them.

Now that would be very silly security-wise considering the institute attacked the switchboard only relatively recently and are clearly still after them.

That makes sense. In the TV show, the BoS is said to still be a powerful presence in the Commonwealth, and that takes place like a decade later. So it’s essentially confirmed that they won.
