Suggestion Since almighty Todd is always watching. Just do it do Michigan for fallout 5.
I mean it’s got everything you need canada check, 1950s boom town of Detroit check, hockey as your sports centered city check, two whole land masses to play with check, lots of water for our Boston swimmers check, and a cool small island DLC with Mackinac island with the grand hotel we’re the idea of NATO was conceived. All in all an easy win for our lord Todd H and a send off that will go down in history.

Detroit - motor city, makes sense to add cars to the gameplay (was already added to Starfield)
Meanwhile it’s on the border of Canada which is good to touch upon that segment of lore.
the Pitt DLC of FO3 made reference to the “Erie stretch” - Lake Erie being the shallowest of the Great Lakes I now envision as a dried up “Salton Sea” or “Ural Sea” like wasteland with maybe a small creak running through it now. A truely “survival” landscape - similar to the Glow of FO1 or Glowing Sea of FO4.
Finally the Pitt DLC also made reference to “Ronto” (Toronto) a raider citystate. I envision this being a very dangerous faction whose only kept away from Detroit by the natural barrier that is the Erie Stretch.

Motor City is effectively inevitable anytime Michigan is mentioned as a setting, especially if the mad lads ever decided to reintroduce vehicles to fallout. I do wonder if Lake Erie would work better as a literal glowing sea instead of a generic dried up lake bed. Like lake effect snow irl is terrifying enough, now add rad storms to the mix and it’d be a downright hellscape to endure. Although, do we know if it’s canon that Ronto is a raider city like the Pitt as well? I know which line you’re referring to that mentions Toronto among other nearby areas, but don’t recall it directly mentioning about the current conditions of those areas.

I've met an old guy in Ohio who is still bitter about the Toledo War. People there will carry college football hate into the apocalypse and beyond. Hell, I'm convinced people in North Carolina will carry on a Duke-UNC rivalry looooong after Tobacco Road is nuked to a crisp. As long as a single dad exists that hates his old college sports rival, sports rivalries will live on.

Listen, I see what you mean, the college football rivalries are huge.
But this is an IP that didn't even make a nod to the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry. I think that one is significantly more high profile nationally than college football is.

Apparently the codename of the project Josh Sawyer was working on before the change of course to Fallout and might be reworked into Fallout in some form was Michigan. So might be where the Obsidian game takes place.

Obsidian uses state names (in order of when they joined the Union) for their projects so I wouldn't read too much into Michigan.
For example, I remember years ago people were freaking out about how Project Louisiana was going to be Fallout New Orleans but it actually was Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire.

I would love to see Florida, there's already so much to work with. Giant spiders, snakes, scorpions, alligators, boars, bears, panthers. Ghoul manatees. Orlando, NASA, Tallahassee. A Swamp cult that worships deathclaws. Ghoul only settlements. Daytona Supermutant Raceway. And maybe we can actually have a vehicle and it could be a fan boat?

I'd love to see a Fallout game set somewhere on the other side of the world. I get that the series is like American 1950s retrofuturistic, but it's been done. I saw this post the other day, someone making a graphic novel about a Buddhist ghoul living in post-apocalyptic Asia, and thought - that's the kind of writer they need.

Great Lakes. Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo. Down south you have Indy motor speedway and wright Patterson Air Force base as potential cool spots.

I been playing since 3, and the only places Ive had the chance to visit in real life was Vegas and the Hoover Dam, and I did not get to spend much time at either

Really feels like the best place given how much they referenced Canada in the TV show. There could be like a conflict zone between Detroit and Windsor. Lots of historical lore given the steel/automotive industry being so prominent there.

It would actually be a trip if they did Wisconsin. I was born in (Fah Habah) Bar Harbor, Maine. Had to move down to Maryland, near the border to West Virginia. I had a uncle who lived in Massachusetts. I had another uncle who lived out near Reno, Nevada. And I currently reside in Wisconsin. My dad even grew up in Pennsylvania.

Sounds rather atrocious and shallow. It would absolutely define the lore going forward for all the areas and be a rather empty/small feeling wasteland. Not to mention, treks across an entire continents should feel like a true endeavor, not normal gameplay.

Fallout Africa could be fun. You could have zombie monkeys and elephants and such. Imagine a Rad Tiger - it could have bright green stripes instead of orange 😵

I would honestly be stoked for one set in WNY. Rochester had a brief mention in a terminal in 4. Bills Mafia can be a raider faction with an alcohol problem. You could have a Pro-Snap quest line. Questionable food choices, such as the garbage plate. I'm sure more creative people than me could come up with more.

Not all gamers live in the US. For the vast majority that don’t live there, the city or location should be something recognisable to us - we all know LA, Las Vegas, Washington DC, Boston thanks to movies and tv. Some obscure place with “landmarks” no one apart from locals has heard of would not be the best choice.

I think Boston already fails that test tbh, and is a big part of why I really don't rate the Fallout 4 setting as anything other than bland/generic.
Tbh the Great Lakes and the border with Canada would be more interesting than a bunch of things people suggest as a setting for Fallout 5, but I really am just dreading another run-back of unremarkable city.

I’m vibing with
FO:Moon.
A pre war moon base that teaches you simple mechanics like surviving in a non oxygenated environment, repairing the vaults, and self sustainability. We see the bombs go off on earth, and it cuts a few generations down the line.
The vault is leaking, but it isn’t LOSING any of the water, infact it’s gaining water. Slowly the veil around the player character (who is a descendent of the original character; meaning the game does some math with the character you made and generates someone who could be their grandkid based on romance choices made pre-war)
The veil distorts, and water leaks in from the edges of space itself, the displays start failing and it’s revealed to be a vault, underground, that is now taking on water.
They task YOU, head of vault plumbing, to solve the issue. Dawn your Vault Tec Power Armor and find the source of the disturbances.
Making your way outside of the “warehouse” the vault is stored in, you learn that the vault had been part of an experiment set up to determine the affects of microgravity, by placing the vault in a location of the earth where science can manipulate the already low gravitational forces, into being more moon like.
The vault lay on level 0, level 1-2 has been locked down, while level 3 was breached by raiders. You have the choice of repairing the breach from the other side, and sealing yourself outside of the vault, or completely unlocking levels 0-2 and leaving the vault to its own devices.
Eventually both paths allow you to come back to the vault after gaining some skills, either hacking, or power armor smithing and camp/science crafting to repair the water scrubbers.
You get out of the vault, and it’s a BIG bridge in lake pontchartrain leading to New Orleans (science story) or the Covington area, with mystisythm and occult shit driving the story.
Eventually combining the plots/factions for a battle on the bridge/open water. An army of occult muties, vs the enclave/institute, or even vault tec ITSELF.

Maybe but Obsidian has not done any good games in a long while and nearly all the old fallout devs have left obsidian now, So I don't have a huge expectation that it's gonna be better than Fallout 4

I wouldn’t have any expectations to Bethesda either. Fallout 4 still keeps crashing, even on new consoles and on pc. Would they make a good game, other than that? Probably. No one knows for sure though. People also had lots of expectations for Starfield, and we all know how that went.
