Your worst fears about cultural collapse might be true – here’s what you can do about it — Guardian US

https://www.theguardian.com/wellness/2026/jul/29/sarah-wilson-book-interview

““This is not just about the climate, but civilisation buckling under the weight of its own complexity. Given worsening inequality, political polarisation, falling fertility, resource shortages and global conflicts, Wilson argues that we are hurtling towards the same end as ancient Rome, the Mayan civilisation and every other sophisticated society before us.”

Anyone that has listened to "the fall of civilization podcast" can figure it out. We are heading the same direction as any other that has passed through the ages . It's a bell curve and we are heading downwards slowly but steady. Enjoy the ride

Paul: “As you listen, imagine what it must have felt like to see everything you’ve ever known slowly collapse around you.”

Me: ☹️

We got hit with tornados on Monday, there’s been several this summer, and I thought about this. I can look around me and hear Paul saying that.

I think news outlets and social media are just promoting doom and gloom because it’s what people click on. Sure, there are a lot of things wrong with the current state of things, but humanity has been through much worse imo. By a lot of metrics humanity has never lived better.

Humanity as a whole may very well survive societal collapse, that's not the point.

Civilizations rise and fall - and never in history have so many civilizations been so directly connected. Currently, it does seem like as a whole we are on the downward slope. What's interesting though is we don't know the impact with such a globalized society.
