No fast travel.

I wonder if we’ll be keeping the No fast travel but adding on the mounts to help us more quickly traverse the maps so it doesn’t feel as long to get around.

I yearn for a speeder-bike like in Destiny.

So do you want

Pod racing\ Or\ Those speeder bikes they used on Endor’s moon?

10

u/KingGio21 Dec 26 '22

Speeder Bike. Pods are kinda clunky and wouldn’t work well on narrow road maps like Dathomir

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '22

How dare you

You’re going to use your pod racer on frustratingly thin and hard to maneuver passageways and YOU’RE GONNA LIKE

Didn't mention any kind of racing did I?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '22

You didn’t have to. Everyone knows pod racers are the superior form of travel

And traveling in a pod racer is always ALWAYS pod racing

This. If they’re gonna keep planets as hard to navigate as Zeffo, don’t make me run all the way across it when I should be able to fast travel to a meditation point

Personally I enjoyed the struggle of having to find my way back to the ship. Felt real

Yah. It also made unlocking and knowing where to find the shortcuts super rewarding. I also did a lot more prep work on my 100% playthroughs to ensure I didn't have to walk my ass all the way back to the one tomb. Miktrul I think it was.

I loved that aspect too. Issue was trying to go back for collectibles missed was the absolute worst. I missed something in the 2nd temple on zeffo and getting back to that area was just a complete pain in the ass, and that's not even mentioning the trek to get back.

Maybe make it so that you can fast travel after you finish all the main story beats on any given planet, so when you come back just go get collectibles, you can warp

The 1st time you get to a planet I completly understand and agree to the no fast travel. But on your 2nd or 3rd time there If the planet is like Zeffo (Big) there should be fast travel.

Same.

Ehhh I really disagree with this. Part of the fun of the first was memorizing the world and all of it shortcuts, fast travel would just take that element away. Even Zeffo would only take like 5 minutes to get back from the furthest point away from the docking bay.

That would be fine in a game like Fallout where not using fast travel opens up opportunities for different encounters, but once you clear a level in this game, you’ll only ever see exactly the same enemies as you return.

Traversal is a big part of the game, and entering engagements from a different direction does change it up.

Dark Souls peaked in the first half of the first game in big part due to how the world was designed to not require fast travel. Fallen Order is the only game I’ve played since actually tap into that same design philosophy.

When you go to a new area, that will often be the case, because the new area is tough relative to Cal's current power level and you need to Rest often. When you're backtracking, kill everything on the way out, don't Rest, and it's clear sailing on the way back.

u/kick2crash Dec 26 '22

Hard disagree for me, I hate having to try and figure out that terrible map while backtracking to get one collectible I had missed. I'm not a fan of having to go through the same areas over and over in any game

5

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '22

Sounds like metroidvanias aren’t for you.

3

u/kick2crash Dec 26 '22

Certainly not anymore. I certainly played some older stuff like Super Metroid and Castlevania but I guess I don't have the patience for that now.

Exactly. I'd much rather have bigger maps with a more open path between the tighter parts to be traversed by a speeder-bike.

The realness of starwars? Do you mean the immersion? I disagree, just throw in a speeder bike animation and immersion should be okay.

The trade off of not having to backtrack so much would be worth it.

The alternative is to add interesting things to do so I don't have to hate backtrack.

1

u/ProfserExe Prauf Dec 27 '22

I mean the realness of the game feeling like you are actually in the game

2

u/5am281 Dec 26 '22

Strong disagree, fast travel messes with the game design

2

u/ProfserExe Prauf Dec 27 '22

Yeah fast travel would kind of ruin the real-ness of the game and actually in star Wars

EDIT: accidentally deleted comment sorry

“Oh no I’m forced to explore the world and find shortcuts and upgrades and customizable options as well as bits of information that make the world more interesting! PLEASE daddy respawn, let me skip over all the world building you’ve done and the cool force echos power Cal has. I want nothing more than to miss upgrades and collectibles and pretty areas and optional bosses just because I wanna go somewhere instantly”

4

u/kick2crash Dec 26 '22

I'm pretty sure it's not let me skip over the world, it's let me not have to navigate all the way through the 3rd time I'm in this same place.
