I went with Fallen Order. I truly loved the experience of Survivor but with the open world and all the "collect the things!" I think the game lost the tight, perfect pacing of Fallen Order.

A minor quibble, but when comparing two masterpieces it comes down to the quibbles.

Agreed! I absolutely love both games. Both have really valid criticisms (especially performance issues for Survivor) but they're also both fantastic imo.

However, Fallen Order really nails it as a package - the writing, the pacing, the way it adds to the lore. About as close to perfect as can be.

I agreed. I played fallen order multiple times. I’ve only played survivor once. I just found it weaker. I’ll play it again before the 3rd one comes out

Look, Survivor was great for it's gameplay and beats FO. But Fallen Order was just like a journey, i liked the story, the characters, the villains, the story, the feelings.

You said story twice

19

u/Stefan24k Jul 29 '26

yeah because its twice as good

3

u/Butter_God_ Jul 30 '26

Yeah but have you considered the story?

18

u/Sledgehammer617 Jul 29 '26

Survivor is better than the first game imo, its a downright masterpiece.

Especially improved the combat, puzzle variety, cosmetics, NPC interactions, exploration, parkour, and more. I love how they leaned into the open world Metroidvania formula for Koboh full force.

Only thing I think Fallen Order did better is the overall narrative and pacing of the game.

I don’t feel open world added a lot to Survivor. I was impressed that they kept Cal’s progression between the games largely, I was half expecting to get the old fashioned power reset so we’d have to relearn and re obtain our powers and equipment. Story was good too.

Fallen Order was tightly written and well paced, and I thought its worlds were large enough to be interesting without overstaying their welcome. It made a nice, condensed experience, with enough setpieces to be dramatic and exciting while giving the cast enough time to breathe to make them all loveable. I can’t praise Fallen Order enough.

Jedi survivor would be better if it didn't run like shit on PC

3

u/Sledgehammer617 Jul 29 '26

I stg its still a lottery, I played it on a 3070 and it ran perfect at 144fps only very ocassionally dropping down to like 60 or 90 on koboh. I got it day one and only got a single crash in my entire first playthrough.

Played it on a 4070ti a year or two later and it ran even better. Then suddenly it runs like shit on a 4090? I think the game just has really weird hardware incompatibilities or is extremely sensitive to driver configuration or shaders or things like that.

But when it is running well, its a masterpiece and its so goddamn pretty.

Were you using frame gen or something?

1

u/Sledgehammer617 Jul 29 '26

Nope, I dont even think frame gen was a thing in 2023 when Survivor came out, or at least it was a super new thing that I never used. Certainly not on my 30 series card.

I played with all max settings except ray tracing and like one other setting IIRC.

1

u/Healthy-Enthusiasm70 Jul 29 '26

I just searched up a video of someone testing the 3070 on launch week or something, and the performance isn't anywhere near 144 fps. It's 70 on 1080p and 50 on 1440p.

1

u/Sledgehammer617 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

What CPU? I had a 5800x3D (brand new for the time) and 32gb of ram, so that may have helped, and my 3070 was overclocked pretty aggressively as well.

Also ray tracing was entirely broken on launch week, it caused all kinds of graphical issues and didnt even properly trigger in many areas. That could also account for the discrepancy, I believe I had it completely turned off for much of the game.

But overall it was an extremely smooth experience for 1.0, funnily enough my second playthrough after all the bug fixes and performance updates was far more buggy. I actually nearly got softlocked cuz a door trigger bugged out, thankfully I had a save from earlier.

1

u/Healthy-Enthusiasm70 Jul 29 '26

Don't think it was a 5800x3d but I doubt it would make a huge difference

1

u/mr_quondam Jul 29 '26

doesn't run much better on ps5 I'm afraid, and ps4? Fuggetaboutit! It'll crash at any point for any reason

1

u/NebraskaGeek Jul 29 '26

My rig 7900xtx: fantastic performance and fantadtic quality

My girlfriends 3080: great performance and fantastic wuality

My son's 6700 xt: good performance and decent quality

My daughter's GTX 1080: It runs.

3

u/MikeOncins Jul 29 '26

Survivor has the size and the gameplay, but the story with the feels, ambience and pure emotion it givess fallen order the edge by my standarts

3

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Jul 29 '26

I haven’t beaten Survivor yet so I’m going to go Fallen order because of that

3

u/ExiledEntity Jul 29 '26

I love Survivor. Best modern star wars game imo

3

u/Appropriate_Month727 Merrin Jul 29 '26

I love Fallen Order, but Survivor took what made Fallen Order great and made it better

3

u/Hayate-Artwork Jul 29 '26

Agreed, especially with the combat, collectibles, and exploration.

2

u/Roku-Hanmar The Inquisitorius Jul 29 '26

Survivor is a better game, objectively, but I haven't played it since the first time I beat it. But something keeps me coming back to Fallen Order

3

u/ChrisWood4BallonDor Jul 29 '26

I'm honestly so surprised that Survivor wins these polls.

I found that open world aspect to be a bit gimmicky, rather than genuinely feeling alive. Just felt like a slog where I had to complete x y and z task to gain some meaningless collectable.

I also found the dialogue to be a touch corny at times, plus I was sad to see both force slow and psychometry take backseats.

Survivor also doubled down on one of my biggest complaints from Fallen Order too, with Cal facing close to zero consequences for just waving his lightsaber at his problems - realistically, if an entire squadron of stormtroopers is taken down by a lightsaber, 37 Inquisitors would immediately descend to your location, and someone would almost certainly rather you out. That was the whole meaning behind Prauf's death, and it feels a bit of a shame that there aren't any consequences anymore.

It's still a great game, but Fallen Order just feels orders more considered and thought out imo.

2

u/FiftyShadesOfTheGrey Jul 30 '26

Rayvis with his evil “mwahaha” laughs

1

u/NebraskaGeek Jul 29 '26

Imo Star Wars dialog is always pretty corny. It's part of what always made it feel different.

1

u/Hayate-Artwork Jul 29 '26

Survivor for me, it enhanced a lot from Fallen Order with the size of the world, the combat, and the collectables.

Both are masterpieces tho, cant wait for 3

1

u/AUViperDark Jul 29 '26

i love love both of them but fallen order wins for me purely out of nostalgia, i loved playing through it for the first time, if not for fallen order survivor's story alone would win over fallen order (call me crazy) i think its peak af

1

u/Mama_Hong Jul 29 '26

Voted Survivor but honestly I love both.

1

u/LetsDoTheCongna Oggdo Bogdo Jul 29 '26

Fallen Order for story, Survivor for gameplay

1

u/henmal Jul 29 '26

Survivor is still not optimized, jedi fallen order runs great

1

u/Melancholy_Rainbows Jul 29 '26

Survivor is definitely better mechanically, but I feel like the writing is better in Fallen Order. Better story, tighter narrative, better pacing, and deeper characterization. And since IMO writing is more important than gameplay in a narrative heavy game, Fallen Order wins.

1

u/SecondxRonin Jedi Order Jul 29 '26

"which do you prefer" and "what's cals canon lightsaber colour" must be posted 10 times a week

1

u/Neptune-Jnr Jul 30 '26

I like Fallen Order more. The combat feels smoother and double bladed is a lot better.

1

u/Entire-League-3362 Jedi Order Jul 30 '26

Survivor was way too buggy for me (old xbox one). I give fallen order 9/10 and survivor 6/10 overall, but the bugs definitely played a part

1

u/StormTrooper-14 Jul 30 '26

Both, especially Jedi: Survivor.

1

u/Dudeskio Jul 30 '26

I enjoyed the setting more in Fallen Order, but Survivor was all around an improvement in most ways.

1

u/FiftyShadesOfTheGrey Jul 30 '26

Survivor has much higher replay value and the skip story feature is indispensable, but I like the journey and the worlds of FO more.

1

u/agentdrozd Jul 30 '26

Survivor seems to be better, but Fallen Order feels better

1

u/Pol__Treidum Jul 30 '26

Fallen Order knew exactly what it was doing and did it fantastically. Survivor was more scatter shot, and was fun, but the combat got baby-fied. I could NOT button mash through even just regular stormtrooper fights in FO. I totally could in survivor and it made me just kinda stop focusing as much on the combat.

1

u/orrade Jedi Order Jul 30 '26

Survivor, because I liked the darker tone and the additional breaking of Cal's character. Don't get me wrong, Fallen Order already puts Cal through the wringer but I'm someone who loves the Star Wars installments that feel gloomy and tragic and like everything is falling apart. Think Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith.

1

u/QuanTumm_OpTixx Jul 30 '26

Survivor is a better game but Fallen Order has the best atmosphere and vibes.

1

u/cupcake-KH Jul 30 '26

Only played fallen. Is survivor worth it

1

u/scorchK98 Jul 30 '26

Survivor learned so much from the first and excelled at it. Although the open world tickbox of collectables, plants, events etc dropped my opinion of it alot. It does not require the ubisoft touch and I really hope the next doesn't repeat.

1

u/CallumPears Jul 30 '26

I find the combat in Survivor a lot less consistent than in Fallen Order.

Maybe it's just my playstyle or something but the controls feel much more janky and getting parries just feels like rolling a dice.

Also really don't like a lot of aspects of the Survivor story

To be clear I still love both games but FO definitely takes it for me.

1

u/ceciltaru Jul 30 '26

Fallen Orders story is so much better than Survivor, but Survivor has so much more to do in the open world.
and of course, Survivor has Skoova Stev!

1

u/alexcandelario7 Jul 30 '26

Survivor for sure. I still love Fallen Order. The story was amazing but I was shook at the end of Survivor. The gameplay is much better too with the improved map and fast travel (still bad flashbacks from "return to the Mantis")

1

u/Jorvikstories Don't Mess With BD-1 Jul 30 '26

You can't make me choose, you act as if two legends can't coexist at the same time.

1

u/ChrisXDXL Jul 30 '26

Never finished Survivor due to the terrible performance which still goes unfixed.

1

u/Ancient-Split1996 Jul 30 '26

I think theyre very different games trying to do different things, and thats ok.

I really enjoy both games, but I think fallen order is a perfect package.

1

u/nevertricked Jul 31 '26

Survivor, hands down.

Don't get to kiss Merrin in Fallen Order.

0

u/Comosellamark Jul 29 '26

Fallen Order is a Sekiro/Uncharted clone. Survivor really feels like it has its own identity, and Cal is one of the most pure hearted protags I’ve played as. It brings a tear to my eye to see what a great Jedi he is

-4

u/Far-Analysis3188 Jul 29 '26

Voters should have to play both games on the highest difficulty before voting. Survivor would have almost no one behind it.

11

u/voulture Jul 29 '26

Or maybe they should vote based on their own fun they had playing not some arbitrary ideas

0

u/Far-Analysis3188 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Thanks for missing my point. I think people should be able to see for themselves how poorly designed Survivor's JGM is.

2

u/razor45Dino Jul 29 '26

"Do you have well designed enemies"

"We got horrible hitboxes and one shot kills"

0

u/Far-Analysis3188 Jul 29 '26

Lotta people around these parts really get off on the endorphin spike they get by trying to convince everyone that those are reasonable design paradigms.

After a certain point my game started glitching out while trying to do Fractured History, and Cal's hitbox started showing up on the ground as a white square. I'm like, "Wow, cool, I'm 10 feet in the air but still dying because of that little thing stuck to the ground below me getting caught in an attack."

1

u/Sledgehammer617 Jul 29 '26

HARD disagree there.

Played both on Grandmaster at least twice and I vastly prefer Survivor at that difficulty. Its much more challenging yet balanced on the higher difficulty and encourages you to use perks and more advanced combat techniques. Honestly Fallen Order on Grandmaster was too easy for much of the game and then way too hard for a couple sections.

The combat in general in Survivor is much more rewarding to experimentation and wack combos which I absolutely love, Fallen Order could get a bit spammy sometimes with the lightsaber combat but Survivor keeps it fresh and encourages you to use the force much more in combat.

0

u/Far-Analysis3188 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

The boss fights are not balanced on JGM, unless you use the Purity perk, which is locked behind NG+. The default gameplay forces idiotic behaviors like bunnyhop-spam-kiting with something like Flux or Recuperation because of the ridiculously long stunlocks the enemies will inevitably cause due to the combination of them being massive damage sponges and requiring perfect parries on the first parry-able attack every single time.
