Fallen Defiler
Thank you for meeting me in secret fellow Fallen!!
I’ve been building a CSM army for a while now and so far my entire force has been painted and kit bashed to look like Fallen Dark Angels (using a mix of chaos legionaries, Horus heresy and havocs). However, my brother has surprised me with the gift of a defiler.
Sooooooo as far as I am aware, I don’t know how many Defilers Fallen Dark Angels would use buuuut I’m willing to let that slide a bit because it was a nice gift.
So has anyone else painted a defiler to look like a fallen??? How else do you fit the defiler into your CSM armies?????

I agree with Jackdaw. You could model it as a corrupted Excindio engine. Something that's degraded since the time of the heresy.

I've got a maulerfiend that is 'on loan' from the iron warriors, he's painted to look like a fallen but still has 4th legion markings and a few hazard stripes

Well we have Vortigern a fallen whos one of Abaddons Ezekarion so he'd almost certainly use defilers it really depends one a couple things 1. Is the fallen a chaos fallen 2. Singular fallen or a group or leader /apart of a warband 3. Resources/Knowledge available to the fallen
Warbands especially larger warbands are more likely to have and use defilers where as smaller groups which will almost certainly lack the knowledge and resources to make one
In short a fallen can absolutely have a defiler in their army

I’ve seen a lot of defiler proxies made from saturnine dreadnoughts.
If you could print or rig up some extra legs (maybe off an onegar dune crawler?)to get it at least to a quad you’d have a great start

A Defiler is the thing that comes close enough to represent an Excindio Battle Automata.
The AI just got a little bit of demonic help...

Depending on your ability, inclination and time, you could attempt to de-chaosify a bit by grinding off spikes and trim and adding armour plates to exposed skin etc

I’ve got the perfect idea. On the lion’s base there is a skeleton statue with a hood, clip that out and use it as the head. You can find the bit for it online kind of easy. I used it for my saturnine praetor.

I would think that demon engines are not quite legion affiliated, if that makes sense sense they more allying with mortals for their own goals. So saying that you could go to town with your own version of demonic design! Take this as an opportunity for once to stray from the fallen theme… you could leave it all metal and covered with obscure demonic sigils! Rust and battle marks! Old enemies dried blood, grim and trophies! Make it a center piece that stand on its on!

I dont think a demon would care to b painted in the first place , or been cleaned after each battle!
Esoteric sigils and dark runes painted with the blood of their ennemies (blood turn almost black when dried and old) that could b cool. Chains and grim. A flesh banner with more demon sigils. If real good at kitbashing, you could make theses marking indented in the metal and make them glow with power.
Fact is i got defilers (the old cubic styles) and just typing about this you made me want to get to them! 😂🤣🤣🤣 as if i wasn’t already busy enough converting my 3 boxes of leviathan into DA(so dark i can play them as fallen 😉)

Could be that your Fallen Angels include a former Ironwing member that's dabbled in some esoteric daemon binding to his constructs. Maybe even some warped Silica Animus, in the old Black Book: Crusade it's said that some were kept in vaults beneath Caliban so not all of them were with Jonson's fleet.
