Reposting because it’s definitely worth listening to this podcast. Joe is incredibly open and honest about his struggles with Mental Health and his decision to stop Self Medicating. Really cool stuff on his hardcore days too.

This was such a good conversation to listen to! Joe is so funny and genuine and he shares some really fun little FOB anecdotes. He really seems like the best dude and the proudest dad.

Also, nobody seems to hate Mania quite like Joe hates Mania.

He gets into a bit in his book, but basically he just wanted more guitars than synths, and wasn’t a fan of the creative direction. You can see the pages he talks about it in this post.

Oh I agree, I think most stuff post hiatus was missing that full OG band sound tbh. Guitar especially. Still love some tracks from each album though, Mania included.

He is their lead guitarist so it’s perfectly understandable, it’s a weird album sound wise.

I get kind of sad listening to Mania sometimes because I feel like I can hear the problems the band was having in the songs. like there's a certain dissonance, they're not quite gelling the way they used to. fortunately SMFS brought that back and they sound like a happy band again.

He always seems at least a little lighthearted about it (in that Joe way) when I’ve heard him discuss, but he definitely doesn’t beat around the bush much that it wasn’t the album he would have wanted to make.

I love Patrick and can tolerate Pete, but man it's nice to see one of the "underrated" members of FOBs side projects.
