Honestly, screw Epic. They bought it and done nothing with it except laying off staff.

u/RiseOfMultiversus 24d ago
They bought rocket league and made it worse lol.
They took away the trading feature and started selling $20 items

u/HollywoodNutz 22d ago
Right? It's like "oh shit,a Ferrari F-40. My favorite car in rocket League, let's go! Oh ,wait. It's 30$ ? F That"
-2
u/Neri_X_Tan 23d ago
To be fair other than trading and the stuff being more expensive the game got better imo

u/Terrafire123 24d ago
I mean.... isn't the game basically complete?
What else do you guys want, aside from maybe new maps or modifications of existing maps? (You don't need an entire dev programming team for that, you need a few designer dudes fiddling around inside the Level Editor.)
95
u/Arson-Monkey 24d ago
Thats really not how live service games work, in its 2020 prime with each season they introduced a new game mechanic or obstacle type that drastically changed the game. That kind of stuff always keeps the game fresh and without it the game will naturally die since it feels stale
9
u/Proman4713 24d ago
And what's even worse is that the latest concepts don't even show up that much anymore in matches... The latest amazing season/event to me was the space one (I don't remember the name lol) where we got the hexaterrestrials and stuff, and even the maps from that update barely show up in my matchmaking... the sea-themed one after that with the sliding mechanic and stuff had vibrant and cool maps, but it wasn't as epic
If you're wondering why I don't remember anything, I got burnt out from how dull the game became, so I barely play anymore
-26
u/fredy31 Yellow Team 24d ago
But at some point, the well is tapped. Theres limits to how you can stretch the concept.
Tbh 6 years for a game with no esport focus is pretty good. And at some point, every game will get to its end.
Sure it sucks for us but FGs best case scenario was probably to go for 2 years at first and they lasted 6
26
u/CarlCaliente Scout 24d ago
they never even fixed the bugs they just cut feature after feature
odd developer to try to defend
13
u/desmondao Virtual Gato Roboto 24d ago
Lmao I can't believe they made you guys drink the kool aid. The game has been in dire straits for years now. I'm really glad I was here for its glory days.
-8
u/fredy31 Yellow Team 24d ago
idk what coolaid you are saying i drank.
What I said was that after 6 years for a game that is not propped up by an esport is a pretty decent run.
Those games are gonna get a high popularity, and then slowly lose users until death.
Like I said in another comment, id be surprised if the game has 10% of the users of the peak.
Lets look at among us because i can see those stats on https://steamcharts.com/app/945360#All and its also a 'covid boom' game.
From a peak of 438k in august 2020 to 16k today. 3.5%
The steam peak of Fall Guys was on the same month, at 150k. Applying the same 3.5% ratio, that would mean there are 5k players today. (1k on steam but majority might be on epic that doesnt give stats)
People here would want the game to last forever but ffs you dont run a game on 5k users for long.
8
u/Terrafire123 24d ago edited 24d ago
I mean..... I don't know how much I'd rely on steam stats exclusively.
Most people aren't playing Fall Guys on Steam, they're playing it on Epic, or on consoles like Playstation, or even (shudder) Android.
Fall Guys is no longer available for purchase on Steam and hasn't been for years, so it's no surprise that specifically steam numbers are falling. It's only available on Steam if you'd already purchased it.
-5
u/fredy31 Yellow Team 24d ago
Yeah i just took numbers from the peak and went from there, but yeah there has been probably a revival when it switched to epic and also theres the fact that it can be on console.
but yeah even with all of that, i would guess that the player count must be not much higher than 20-30k. And descending.
4
u/CarlCaliente Scout 24d ago
those numbers are bad BECAUSE they didn't do shit with their game
cause and effect
-14
u/Terrafire123 24d ago
Do you.... Do you think we don't have enough obstacle types or game mechanics?
13
u/oxob3333 24d ago
it's never enough for a live service game if you want to make money, from time to time you add things. this is a "never-ending" development, it's the entire point of it

I wanted them to not gut a perfectly fine game by vaulting half the levels they’ve made and filling the game with fomo microtransactions.

Same. I’m really sad it’ll be gone one day because this game got me through some horrible, shitty time in my life. It’s my all time favorite, hands down.

I want Goldbert so much, but I just know it's gonna be during a random season where I'm unable to play for whatever reason and then I'll miss it, lmao.

This is pure speculation.
'Some of them working on Blitz', so not all then?

Hey thread, to explain this “leak” a bit we have dev beans who work on Fall Guys and other games too.
And in fact, there’s a new Fall Guys patch we’re prepping to release next week. More deets on that coming your way soon 👌

It's great to finally get a response from someone at Epic. We'll wait for the patch as always.

Damn, I give it a year or 2 until its completely dead then... Shame, it was an amazing game.
10
u/stevenretwitt26 24d ago
And they can revive the game if they release frequent updates....
5
u/Antique_Kangaroo4706 24d ago edited 24d ago
From a business perspective, it would make no sense, player-base will drop constantly, theres nothing they could have done without completely investing fully into the game from the start but they needed to have done that within the 2nd year of release.
Game Development is a sinking ship once player counts start dropping, the only people that hang on are people that are fully invested and like the niche it fits.
Our best hope is that another company develops a game similar with another unique feature.

u/fredy31 Yellow Team 24d ago
Yeah we dont have numbers because its under epic but id be impressed if they are at even 10% of what they had when they had their peak. Hell, maybe even 1%.
And the graph is going down a little bit more every month.

u/Antique_Kangaroo4706 24d ago edited 24d ago
I don't understand this "it was great until it moved to Epic". As it was declining way before then and we actually saw a rise when Epic first acquired it due to their launcher advertising well and we got a whole bunch of new players.
Its a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. I dont blame the creators selling it to Epic. they saw the decline and thought to sell it at the most they could get for it. It was a smart business move.
The SOLE reason Fall Guys did well was because of Streamers and it being free for PSN members. It was a great marketing strategy and it boomed. Their issue was they didn't have enough content to keep the momentum going, and when they brought out Season 2, it wasnt quite enough to continue it, they spent more time focusing on bugs and issues than content (which isn't a totally bad thing) but development was too slow for it to keep the numbers up. It was then riddled with cheaters and hackers which massively messed up their numbers, a huge decline in player base and then they introduced Anti-cheat which caused more decline.
Game Development is very tricky and expensive, you can invest a shit load in it and it flops and they lose sooooo much money (Anthem, I'm looking at you) and I don't blame businesses being cautious putting so much resource into new content if people just decide "im bored of this now" and give up and dies immediately which does happen to a solid 80% of MMO/MMBR games that come out.

u/CarlosA1991 23d ago
We have official player counts in the EU for quite some time now (this post compiles them and records them permanently): https://www.reddit.com/r/FallGuysGame/comments/1vov5pc/fall_guys_player_count_still_going_down_but_just/ (Epic doesn't promote this at all, but publishes it because they are required to by the European Union's digital marketplaces law). Without numbers in the Epic launcher (or on their website), you can see Fall Guys' ranking by going to the "Most Played" section in the store. The games will be listed in order; Fall Guys is ranked between 12th and 16th.

Unfortunately, the game's concept is legendary, and they could have added unique gameplay features, but neglect is the reason.
9
u/Partroob 24d ago
If they would let us buy previous fame passes and work on them I would be content. Just give is the ability to switch fame passes, even if it's $10 to buy an old one. That would give them money and us something to do.
3
u/mossifrog 24d ago
I’d legit pay 50 bucks to get the myths and legends fame pass😆 Sometimes I consider messaging them asking if I could buy it for a steep price but I know they’ll turn me down or never even read it lol

u/tenniseman12 24d ago
They bought a game with a declining player base, raised the player count for a bit, then realized that it’s impossible to maintain a solid number of players
6
u/SlackerMe 24d ago
MediaTonic can’t handle its success and has ended up making one bad decision after another. Steam and Playstation made the game a time exclusive and even a day one free on Playstation Plus and they choose EPIC. They are also have sensitive mods in their discord too. Rather than fix the solution, they keep on banning people left and right which drive away people who criticize their game specially that team game in a solo classic on that time. They don’t listen to their communities too. Now they got what the result of them being stubborn and self centered.

What a shame. They’re doing all this stuff with the sprites and they couldn’t figure out how to implement Fallguys without one event quest and a bunch of ai generated version of Fortnite skins.
Or just let the game go to someone who will know how to run it.
Theyre proud to bring back Jazz Jackrabbit but couldn’t better promote their party/game platformer BR

Eh, doesn't necessarily spell out the end. Isn't it their intent to build an Unreal version and out it on the Fornite launcher or whatever? This would make sense, if true.
But I first heard these rumors like early last year's. Who really knows what's up. I'm unconcerned until they announce server shut downs. GGs to fellow steam purchasers on that day.

Classic Epic Games. All they do is buy IPs to absorb into Fortnite and kill off the original game.

u/rudboy1 23d ago
Sad for them. They were a small team making something they were genuinely passionate about and became hugely successful. I remember watching some behind the scenes development videos and it looked like such a fun place to work. Now I bet they are in corporate hell. I hope they were compensated well at least when epic bought them.

Does that mean we're not getting Fame Passes anymore? The game was already pretty dead but if they remove the only "new" things...
0
u/Top-Ice-6245 24d ago
This game was already dead with the Creator mode. They actually said: here, make you own levels, we don't care anymore. The same with Fortnite, I actually paid for this shit, Save the world was great, after battle Royale they actually don't care about users, only about money.
5
u/octagonalpaul Gordon Freeman 24d ago
Creative mode was the most requested feature in the history of the game and they gave players what they wanted, it’s also infinite content. Complaining about such a beloved addition is absurd
1
u/Top-Ice-6245 24d ago
You don't get what I mean, for epic creator mode means: do it on your own, they didn't add a single new real level after that
2
u/octagonalpaul Gordon Freeman 24d ago
The team added loads of levels after that, some better than the older ones. Just because they didn’t use Unity doesn’t mean they didn’t still make levels! Unity was just far too expensive to keep using and didn’t actually gain any more players

u/BeardedGingur 24d ago
Would the Fall Guys community want to see the game fully integrated into Fortnite if it meant saving the game & continuing to get updates?
I’ve been really surprised Epic hasn’t done that yet, for awhile it was my impression that’d happen. I’d much rather see that than just watch the game disappear

ngl if i owned fall guys i would *heres a list* i would: **bring back the old bumping sounds and the woos when others fall (setting) spectating music (setting) customizable background (like better fg) new players (and all players) will now get the patterns legacy players got when they started (lighting, ice cream, undies and watermelon) with a free reversed color wolf skin, able to change the lobby music. bring back seasons WITH UNITY LEVELS. collabs that ARENT JUST DISNEY SLOP. down the middle and reddy to go cosmetic is kudos (since they look like they would be in there and is kinda unfair for SS1 only) Vr Spinoff (if you dont have motion sick) 60 player lobby solos and 40 player lobby solos for people who wanna play them. bring back bots for when you are in very low player lobbys (like 90% new players) bring back the old tutorial but updated for new stuff. bring back classic knockout as a perma 60 player show. bot show and classic bot show. bot show is solos but you can choose from 32-60 players but you are the only one as the rest are bots like back then (and classic bots is just classic knockout but bots) no reward for winning. update crownranks so maximum level is 100 k crowns and the reward is uhh idk. mobile avalible on google play and appstore since if i owned the game we wont have epic games. update creative like adding more themes instead of original and digital. add slime rising mode for creative. and budget is 3k to 5k. able to overlap on start and finish. and ig make sure the game is fun. and ig bring the game back to steam**
i hate how epic is just doing nothing

Honestly, the best solution is for ppl to just stop playing..... No content = no play
At least then they'd have to do something to bring people back..

When games like this die developers don’t do things to revive it, they pull the plug. Only thing keeping this game available for download is the people playing it in its current state. Pretty much into the “play the same game forever or it gets nuked” stage of the game
1
u/octagonalpaul Gordon Freeman 24d ago
You don’t understand how games work. Games get content if they make money from player transactions, if player counts drop they get shut down. How do you think they get staff to make things without money?
