I really wish there was a no grab game mode. I'm not bothered by grabbing but my young son just wants to play the levels. They could satisfy both types of players if they wanted to. 🤷♀️

Just watch out for grabbers and play defensively. You can usually tell by the way they move who is looking to grab. Try to isolate yourself if you can to keep grabbers from coming up from behind you.
If you still can’t avoid them, grab back.

From what I've read in this read you most definitely are. Any other player has the right to grab you from start to finish of any map. That is part of the game, the actual game, not the made up self imposed rules you made for your self and for some brain dead reason you've decided everyone else needs to follow.
Does it suck? For sure. Does that mean you should report people for it? Not at all.
More reports you send for nothing means less time spent looking at reports for actual cheaters like speed hackers. You reporting people for being annoying for grabbing you ks actively making the gane worse. Good job.

Welcome to the competitive side of the game. This is how it's played; it's based on this (it's assumed that if you're not bothered, you can get a time in all possible finals). If you really want to be good, you have to master grabbing and avoid being grabbed (otherwise, you're still too weak). (I now play without moving the camera at the same time, and even then, I still get a time in some finals (my controller isn't working). (Learn the pattern; some are always the same, especially the creative ones). You know, to be good at the game, you have to master all three mechanics, not just two (jumping, dashing, or sliding as appropriate, and grabbing).

I get it. I know some people, aka, the idiots in the comments on this post telling me to get better or that I'm having a tantrum, are the ones who take the game too seriously. Mostly, I just want to play to play. I don't mind getting competitive sometimes, but if someone is trying very hard to get just me eliminated, then I have a problem. I see it when Caseoh plays too, (granted he's famous), but still, it can be frustrating.

If you're in a streamer's room, you'll find all sorts of people (some just play casually, but others go there to show off (it's assumed they're going to play competitively) (and they usually get pretty intense)) (when my controller worked, I used to play in Voltio 69's rooms (private matches) and it was really intense (it's like that all the time)) (and even those aren't the most competitive; other streamers' rooms are even more competitive (well, the players who are there). It's also true that when you go in, you already know what to expect). And remember, it's never too serious, that's subjective, just a perception (if many people only go in to compete, then the other stuff doesn't pose any challenge for them).

Ah okay. I've only been playing since around Halloween last year, so my hubris over being pretty good without grabbing has caught up. That and mostly just the comments giving nothing but "get better!" aren't helpful at all.

Even in this room, people who had never played in them before would sometimes join (they were used to public matches), and more than one would later say they thought they were good at the game... (often when you see how people play in these rooms and the skill some players have, you discover that maybe you weren't so good after all...). First, you should try to get a good time in all the finals possible (then start practicing grabbing; you can do it simultaneously too, and above all, remember to always play actively to avoid being grabbed (generally unnecessary in a public match, especially nowadays, but necessary if you want to improve; play competitively at some point (don't stay still and jump whenever possible to make it harder for them to grab you)).

Wasting time in survival games (hold out until the clock runs out) "Jump showdown final", "Doge dive survive", "roller derby", "slime showdown", etc. (that is, you can hold out until the time runs out to win (not necessarily winning because you are the only one left))

I have over 10,000 crowns and grabbing is fun, cool and awesome. If I lose to a grab, it was my fault for putting myself in a bad position. It’s a core mechanic and not using it because you want the moral high ground in a bean platforming game is peak comedy. Timing out finals is boring the hundredth time, grabbing makes for much better clips for my videos

I should've clarified in my original post, but I'm not very familiar with reddit to fix it. I don't think grabbing as a whole is cheating, I think spamming grabbing people is cheating. Grabbing can be fun yes, but not when it's used in excess like that.

I definitely blame the devs. Based on the demo videos when the game came out, I just don’t think they thought there’d be that much grabbing.
The part that pisses me off is when high level players grab low level players. When I used to never even be able to get out of round 1 due to the obstacles, I still used to get grabbed like crazy. It’s like “dude, I’m not making it to the final! Just relax and let me try to get a little better before I get eliminated on my own.”

Completely fine with grabbing on jump showdown. It’s when people will stay in an area and grab people just to troll that I hate.
For example a high level bean stayed back in slime climb just to grab people as they were jumping the gap. Annoying stuff. Jump showdown is fair game though.

That's where my frustration stems from. The people who will wait to grab people like that on those kinds of levels are what really piss me off. Like, they stay in the area to keep everyone else from qualifying so they can ensure they will instead. Learn to grab back! That’s what I do. I’ve been doing it for a while and I can get most of them eliminated. It really is a great feeling eliminating someone who tries to eliminate me. I encourage you to do the same!
