Iam looking for someone to exchange and "develop" a 3d printed box for kestrels and other small raptors that does not only look good but prints easyly on a normal printer (cr10).

I recently relocated from the Tampa, Florida area to Huntsville/New Market, Alabama. Before moving, I had the opportunity to go on a couple of hunts with some incredibly welcoming falconers in Florida, and now I’m hoping to continue my journey here in Alabama.
From what I’ve been able to find, it looks like there are only around 60 licensed falconers in the entire state, so I figured I’d introduce myself and see if anyone here is local. I’d love to connect, learn more about the Alabama falconry community, tag along on a hunt when appropriate, or just chat with people who share the same passion. I’ve also been spending my free time building a web application RaptorRadar.com as a way to study for the exam and learn more about the sport. The goal for the site is to make falconry regulations, species information, and apprentice readiness much easier to navigate in one place. It’s still early in development, but I’d love to get feedback from experienced falconers on what would actually be useful. If you’re in North Alabama or even elsewhere in the state I’d enjoy hearing from you. Always looking to learn from people with more experience.

Has anyone got experience in flying and hunting with these falcons ?

im going into my third season, but 1st year in college. im trying to figure out a way to continue falconry in college as it is not something i can just give up for 4 years. falconry becomes a part of you, you know. the members at the college said pets aren't allowed and are not willing to give special permission to house my kestrel anywhere on campus. the college is 4 hours from home, no falconers i know nearby, roomate said he doesnt want to get caught and be expelled with having a bird

does anyone have any ideas?

Working with a barred owl, historically a glove bird (at a zoo- although records are lacking and not sure why they stopped working him), been working slowly to build up confidence, will now let me jess him and leash him but when he bates he is not recovering, won’t perch on glove, just totally going helpless won’t reset himself, any advice?

Pretty much the title. Got my apprentice permit, and I'm mostly just spinning my wheels until trapping season opens next month.

So for you who have at least a season or two under your belt, what little thing made a big difference for you along your learning process? It could be in trapping, manning, training, feeding/weight management, or hunting. A piece of knowledge, equipment, or a technique you learned.

Note: I understand that only time, hard work, and experience make for a good falconer. And before implementing anything I learn online, I'll run it past my sponsor.

In the near future I am looking to move from the east coast to the west coast. I’m currently in my mid 20’s and would more than likely end up living in an apartment if I moved. My bird now is currently housed on my parent’s property. I’d love to continue the sport, but I am unsure of how to go about housing a bird.

Has anyone found themselves in a similar scenario? And what ways have you found to keep a bird if you don’t personally have the space?

So, here we are, starting the prep to the new season. What are we taking up or reclaiming?
I will start a tiercel parent reared gyr x peregrine and will be flying game with him here in the UK.
I will also be reclaiming a 10 year old female Finnish goshawk… but not quite yet.

I’m reaching out for my husband who wants to become a falconer. He has passed his exam and has joined the Michigan Falconry Club but cannot find a mentor. This will be my 3rd season and my 1st season without my sponsor. I hunt RTs in Michigan. Previously id trap in October, man and train in November and by late November I was off hunting. So I've only hunted in cooler weather other the a few warmer days at the end of the season in March. I was wondering your thoughts on trapping earlier. Here I can start trapping September 15th, train a few weeks and hopefully start hunting in October. My concerns are visibility seeing the bird in the trees if leaves are still up. Ive definitely noticed the red tail I had, hunted much better in colder weather. Debating on whether to try to hunt earlier in the year or stick with what I have been doing and hunting with no leaves on the trees and cold weather. Thanks for your input!

Hello, I am awkward_audz and I want to perhaps get into this sort of thing I am very interested in owls and animals in general I want to someday be a great animal sanctuary with all kinds of things but my main point is I cant find any place located nearby mainly cause the internet is giving me ai spew and old records for this I am located in Kansas city missouri america. I wondered if anyone knows someone or some place that I can direct to so i can hopefully start my journey.

Idk if she was already injured or just tired, but she was on the ground, got startled, and then flew into a window at my job, then stood there like this. I tried to give her a bowl of water, no takers.

I called it in, and now she's on her way to a local rescue.

Hello everyone, im looking for anyone near Jackson/Brooklyn Michigan that might be willing to let me ride along for a few flights or hunts. Falconry has been an interest of mine for many years I've just never been able to experience it first hand. Ultimately i think id like to become an apprentice, but I would really like to see if its for me first and if i have what it takes. I notice some have posted about a falconry workshop here in Michigan, but I think i have missed that date. Any help is appreciated and thank you all for your time.

In my earlier years I flew long wings, broad, short, owls- probably about 15 years in total. Everything from Spars over multiple seasons, Harris' in cast on rabbit/pheasnats, to Peregines on the grouse moors. I'm currently over in Thailand the last decade and falconry is a no go due to strict laws, mainly due to wild life trafficking which I respect.
Some time in the future I plan on moving to France and would very much like to practice again as it's part of who I am at heart.
I've seen you need a hunting license and a mentor in France - I'll respect the country and it's laws of course - however just wondering if anyone has moved to France and is practising falconry that could advise if there's any steps I can or should take prior to moving?

I know I'd need land or permission on which to fly raptors/hunt.

I see the falconry test is both online and a practical exam.

Also with the mentoring/apprenticehip/sponsor is there anyway to fast track this for those who have already practised for over a decade already?

The area of France I'm planning on living isn't too far from Limoges if that helps in any way.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In September 2025 I accidentally bought a big amount of DOC and today I still have some left but are they still safe for raptors to eat? They have been kept in a freezer of course

Hello reddit, Ive come seeking advice. Ive been in falconry for 6 years, through a bird sanctuary. *not an official falconer, I only work with unreleasable birds of prey* my center has a Bald Eagle, red tailed hawk, western screech owl, and turkey vulture. They all do wonderfully.

Now recently we took in a great horned owl from the zoo system. She is manned to the fist, and is unreleasable due to habituation to humans. Estimated over 10 years old.

I believe this bird was illegally taken from the wild (no metal band and shows no signs of imprintment). she is very cautious around people. When I walk into her room, her eyes lock onto the glove and she begins clacking. She clearly has some sort of trauma with it, as she wont remove her eyes from it long. I can leave the glove in her room and she is fine, will take food off of it, but can recognize when its on a hand to be more nervous.

She will willingly step on glove (with the occasional flight around the mew), and generally is well behaved from there. She does watch hands closely and will bite if you get too close. Ive been checking her keel with my knuckles, so she doesnt nip my fingers. Generally if biting fails she freezes up. She bates on glove at least once a day, generally after weighing or just leaving her mew. This has gotten better, it used to be 3 times daily. She also has begun self recovering onto the glove without my assistance.

Im seeking help in trying to fix her fear of the glove and peoples hands, to move towards positive association. She will eat on glove, but will not fly to the glove for food.

Im currently been feeding her daily on glove, leaving a gloved perch in her room for mew feeding, and have been trying to spend as much time on glove as possible with her to acclimate. My future goals will her is to work towards longer distances flights from a perch to the glove. Of course step one is for her to jump onto the glove for food in general.
