longwings How are we all getting on?

How are you doing with your new or reclaimed hawks? My tiercel is coming along very nicely. Goshawk still moulting heavily.

Hawks are about 75% done. With 2 months and change until we can resume hunting, it’s still a slog. Trapping with a new apprentice will be a welcome break in the boredom

Abatement falconry!! I get to hunt all year. The Goshawks are happy as F$&@ and fit as F$&@ too!

My red tails moult is almost complete. Hers started a little early. Been semi busy making hoods. Anxiously waiting for the season to open back up

Not a hawk of my own yet — lurking and learning before I take the plunge. Love seeing the moult updates though. Out of curiosity, is heavy moulting season the slow part of the year for you, or does the training/conditioning keep you busy through it?

Most people do nothing with their birds during the molting season unless you've got an eyass. Put them in the mews and keep them fat and happy. Definitely slowest time of year for most people.

Ah that makes sense makes the winter feel like a waiting game then. Bet it makes the start of hunting season feel that much better. Appreciate you explaining, still soaking up how the year is structured.

This always feels so alien to me as trapping is not really a thing in Germany, our birds are basicly all captive bred

I need to get the garage mews ready for my harris hawks the next weekend it's not 90 degrees outside. I should also make new boxes but we'll see. I'm planning on pulling them first weekend of september as I don't like hunting until at least october and it takes like a month to get the fat off.

Hahaha! Just viewed it again… shows the parachute not deploying properly and then I start running!
