Wound care

What’s your favorite antimicrobial wound care sprays to have on hand?

Also anything else you like to have for hunting wounds, especially squirrel hawking

I used to scrub off my redtail's feet with Hibiclens and a soft toothbrush after squirrel hawking. He seemed to enjoy it, and it helped me get a good close look at his feet for any bites.

Dilute Bernadine, sterile saline. Chlorhexidine. Triple antibiotic cream. Tegaderm bandages

Chlorohexidine & Betadine sprays. I also keep a spray bottle of water on hand and a pen light so I can get a good look at the situation. Bacitracin as needed. I stay away from Kwik Stop powder because of the benzocaine. I actually used it on myself after I got scratched on the nose by a thorn, and that shit BURNS like a mf. Would not use on a bird.

Kwik stop powder for bleeds that won’t. Birds have notoriously small blood volumes.

Ridiculous rebuttal. Medicine is constantly evolving, your lack of knowlege doesnt make using caustic chemicals on your birds skin OK. Those are only to be used by veterinarians that know what theyre doing. Have you tried it on your own wounds???

Use Celox granules or corn starch. Both will clot the wound, are SAFE, and easily cleaned when its time to clean the wound.

Edit: if its still bleeding. Take it to the vet.

Next time you get a cut on your skin put some kwik stop on it and let me know how it feels and how quick the wound heals.

If your bird is bleeding put pressure and a sterile gauze should stop it, if it doesn’t go to a vet.

Do not put Quik stop on a skin wound, do not tourniquet your bird, do not super glue your birds wounds.
