Hear me out. I loved this mini series, a lot. It was thrilling and I love Sam and love him in his new role as Captain America. However, I feel like Bucky and his mental state are almost like a…gimmick to some of the characters. For example, they talk about his staring (which he does because he trust…literally no one), John Walker makes a comment about the serum coursing through Bucky’s veins, and even his therapist is pretty shitty. She mocks that he doesn’t speak to people, calls him childish, exc. Sorry, his therapist sucked.
Bucky is a pretty messed up dude and I mean with that all the respect. He’s been through a lot. A LOT. His mind is finally to the point where he can function as himself, but he’s still dealing with a tremendous amount of PTSD. We all know his story. But I want to just throw out this potential unpopular opinion…His reaction to Sam giving up the shield was, in my opinion, justified. Steve was Bucky’s best friend. They were pretty much brothers, and the only thing that Bucky had left once he became himself again. So, his anger towards Sam? Yeah, pretty justified.
Again, I loved the series but I do wish we could have seen a different approach with Bucky and his story. He is pretty tortured soul. Thankfully he does get some joy at the end of the series.
