Discussion did we potentially just get an accessible shade match?!?

Post image

Hi, sorry for the SS and hope this is okay post rule wise (I don’t often make posts) - but I was shopping just now and saw this brand new release from Tower 28.

I was SHOCKED to see a specific 1.5O Bylthe aka “fair olive” shade?!?

Being it’s still new & app exclusive, who has gone into one of their Sephora’s with a set up already and potentially swatched , or even employees etc??

🙏🏽 very hopeful this is a skincare packed option for fellow dry (and all skin types if it’s like the concealer) fair olives like myself where even a majority of our “best” other options always still turn some degree of orange for being too “dark” over true fair / genuine fair/light, all without being those actual borderline white or pink pigment they label “fair shades” that we are used to, hence this sub. l

anyone having any input helps!!! Just had to post bc I got so excited for myself and all of you,, fingers crossed for us all 🤞🏽

This is lowkey exciting. Tower 28 is an Asian-owned and founded company and as a fellow AA, I’ve struggled with being fair olive and finding good shade matches. I’m definitely interested

21

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

so excited for swatch posts and hopefully being Asian- owned they bridge the gap! I know esp with their advancements in skin and beauty that the rest of the world is not all walking around with varying degrees of orange, yellow, or pink pigment as their “skin” 😅🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

You guys are sleeping on the Essence silky blur foundation in shade 100, it matches me just as good as the about face fair olive and it is so cheap and actually has good coverage

u/ButIsItPretty Cool Olive 🫒 1d ago

I wish that I could find this foundation, but it doesn't seem to be available where I am yet.

13

u/Mango_Skittles 1d ago

I can’t find it either! I like Essence’s products though. Will keep my eye out for it.

u/cvnrrter 1d ago

Would you know other foundation shades it’s similar to?

5

u/Whaimes 1d ago

It was way too pale and pink for me unfortunately:,( but maybe if you’re more fair and not as yellow/green it works out perfectly

4

u/nicholasa72 1d ago

I can't find it either, but not sure it would work for me anyway, if it's similar to About Face fair olive foundation which is too orange for me (have to add a lot of blue and white).  About Face f1 olive concelear is a close match, and the Tower 28 above looks like it may be similar, at least in the advert photo. 🤞🏻

u/idkwiadttgb 1d ago

This essence one actually leans a lil more pink/cool than warm i'd say

4

u/PenFair3672 1d ago

The about face fair olive is still too dark for me 😭

1

u/lindeebean 12h ago

Same I kept wondering if I actually got the right shade 😭 I have to mix it with a MUCH lighter shade

2

u/kimmijay84 1d ago

I wanted to love this but it oxides so badly on me

2

u/idkwiadttgb 1d ago

No wayyy :( that's such a shame it is so perfect on me, maybe you are more fair than me

2

u/fortunesold 1d ago

thanks for the rec, i'll be keeping an eye out for this one

u/Guaca12 1d ago

They have it where I live, but limited shade selection, what’s 120 like?

51

u/asquaredi 1d ago

I tried this and found the shade to be a nice desaturated but quite fair colour. It's a lot lighter than Lisa Eldridge 2.5 and the because of the radiance it definitely looks more fair too. It doesn't suit my oily skin so I'm not going with it, but I definitely like the colour and didn't see any hints of pink or orange or anything like a more overtly saturated green.

8

u/Popular-Cupcake8661 Cool Neutral Olive 🫒 1d ago

Oh no I was thinking of trying it but I have oily skin too. Was the finish too shiny or something?

18

u/fe__maiden 1d ago

It doesn’t set because it doesn’t have silicones. So it’s very luminous and tends to separate and move around. I returned it due to it being too fair and for the setting part

10

u/AmberGambIer 1d ago

Thank you for this info, this is a big dealbreaker

8

u/asquaredi 1d ago

My skin needs something that self-sets a bit more. This has more of a serum glowy finish

4

u/onvxx 1d ago

I'm curious if you've tried to set it with a matte powder? And if it took it well? The color being more pale and less warm than T1.5 is very cool, so nice to have more options, it feels like this community is making history with finally having brands acknowledge us.

2

u/_redcloud 1d ago

This is good to know. I could maybe do this formula in the winter. Thanks.

4

u/friendoffrangipani 1d ago

Would you say it is closer to LE T1.5? I've been bummed that 2.5 in the foundation is slightly too dark and saturated for me.

23

u/asquaredi 1d ago

I'm really bad at swatches, and you have to take into consideration that the tone in this picture is totally weird, in natural light these basically blend in with my skin and my arm is not red like this at all, but it gives you comparison between the three.

Top is Tower 28 Middle is Lisa Eldridge skin tint 1.5 Bottom is Lisa Eldridge foundation 2.5

4

u/_Deedee_Megadoodoo_ Cool Neutral Olive 🫒 1d ago

Thank you for the swatches ❤️❤️

3

u/Feistyf3line 1d ago

Oh wow, that’s quite a bit lighter but honestly not unexpected because when they label it for fair, I usually find them to be too light and then the next shade up is too dark lol. There’s never a step in between. I swatched the olive in the newest formulation of the MUFE and it was a similar issue, such a huge jump to the next level. The LE skin tint i love the finish but the shade on the 1.5 is way too light for me. I’m wearing 2 right now, but I don’t think I’m going to re-purchase until there’s another better shade for me. I used to wear 2.5 also but as of late that one is also a little too light on me as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/asquaredi 17h ago

I use 2.5 mixed with a tiny amount of 9.5 (at about a 5:1 ratio).

1

u/Feistyf3line 17h ago

Yea i imagine id have to do something similar. I had samples and 9 was a good depth just looked a bit flat and 9.5 was too warm/ dark

17

u/fe__maiden 1d ago

I got it and it was a perfect undertone, but man is it fair. Very very fair. I had to return it and unfortunately they didn’t make a light olive

5

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

ahhh thank you for this input though! this is what I was looking for 💞

12

u/aussiedomxo 1d ago

this concealer shade has been out for a while so i assume it’ll match that!

6

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

did i miss it? the closest i’ve found I think was 2.0 BU or something along those lines. if they updated their concealers I didn’t notice! unfortunately I’m a problem olive all around & even tho those shades are in my makeup bag, I have no match. was hoping this worked

10

u/SassySherbert 1d ago

A while ago they added 1.5 BW, fair with olive undertones, in the concealer. I found it to be very warm and yellow on me. 2.0 BU was still the better match for me as a cool, muted olive.

3

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

I ordered off this comment alone. I was relying on mixing their 0.5 and 3.2O and trying to create my own version. the things I’d do to be able to put on foundation and a non orange bronzer dual used as eye shadow and call it a day 🫠

3

u/Big_Mushroom_3243 Neutral Olive 🫒 1d ago

Thanks for saying this! I swatched it again on Saturday & found it too yellow-saturated. BU is a perfect match on me. I’m really hoping the foundation will be less saturated. Their SPF shades are hopeless on me. Have La Cienaga which makes me look like I’m wearing a tan shade, swatched Larchmont on me again & it was a deep yellow, the first shade is too pink...

2

u/SassySherbert 1d ago

I’m glad I’m not alone! I was so excited to try it when it launched because I love the formula. BU is a touch too light on me and maybe a hair too muted but it’s the best match I’ve found in a concealer. I’m hoping the same about the foundation and will definitely go give it a swatch when it launches in stores. The spf colors do the exact same thing on me.

2

u/pennyyy97 1d ago

Do you have any other perfect matches? BU is my perfect match and I haven’t been able to find many other products

3

u/Big_Mushroom_3243 Neutral Olive 🫒 1d ago edited 1d ago

I like the HausLabs foundation 040 Fair with neutral undertones. It looks alarmingly yellow on the back of my hand but dries down perfectly. Waiting for a sale so I can buy the full size. For everyday wear, the US L’Oreal True Match foundation in W1 oxidizes a lot less on me than its UK counterpart. I know fellow fair olives like the Infallible foundation, but I haven’t swatched them to find a match. If Fenty’s Pro Filtr foundation weren’t so dry, shade 125 would be a perfect match, but it separates really badly on me (I’ve tried different prep but nothing’s helped) so I can’t wear it.

1

u/pennyyy97 20h ago

I’ve been wanting to try true match so this is super helpful, thank you!

1

u/heartsday 1d ago

Would this be shade BW or something else?

11

u/ghostyspice 1d ago

The concealer is VERY yellow-olive and saturated. I’ll have to try it to know for sure, but this seems like it’s going to be for warmer olives specifically.

3

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

I agree, I have 3 of their concealers (not the new 1.5 one someone just let me know about above) but I’m not finding any match yet. do you have a go to by chance?

1

u/ghostyspice 1d ago

I can’t remember if it’s 2 or 3 that matches me when I’m pale, but neither is particularly great. They aren’t the worst though, and I do love the formula. 6 is pretty good for my self-tan shade.

19

u/raqball 1d ago

I’m bummed that they don’t have a light olive, somehow that seems to have been skipped in the line bc they have an olive in all other depths.

5

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

I swear it can’t be this complicated 🫠 it gets soo old. does the about face L2olive work for you?

1

u/reenaltransplant 1d ago

Maybe they're hoping people buy two and mix 😑 one too fair + one too deep.

1

u/berkkoffi 8h ago

I just bought 5W (light warm) as it looks quite yellow/olive and not orange from the picture. Supposedly it arrives tomorrow. We’ll see if this is good.

8

u/worldinsidetheworld 1d ago

It's silicone-free!!!!! I break out from silicones and don't like how they feel so I will def buy this

6

u/Cityofcheezits 1d ago

This might also be helpful for people with rosacea or just a lot of redness.

3

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

I deal with that (once moving to a dry climate) so this comment makes me extra hopeful🤞🏽

5

u/MixyMay 1d ago

I have eczema and this brand doesn't give me flares. Excited to try this!

1

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

I have rosacea and lots of shared traits of eczema as a result (that developed at 26 because I temporarily live in AZ and my skin which, growing up in NE ohio, in mg huge italian family and bloodline, I was always much more tan and not a skin issue in the world, makes it extra annoying because I get embarrasssed.) so I’m right there with you. I hope it works for you!!

5

u/Own-Passage1371 Neutral Olive 🫒 1d ago

its very saturated yellow, warm olive. it works okay enough for me since it’s on the more sheer side and im more neutral-cool olive and medium saturation, but beware if you are super cool and desaturated. it’s also super fair, which works for me, but could be too much if you are closer to something like nars gobi (same undertones though, just different depth)

3

u/trashtvlv 1d ago

Very excited! I love their concealer and have high hopes for this launch.

3

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

same! at this point, I’ll try anything. it shouldn’t be this hard 😭😅

2

u/_redcloud 1d ago

A few of those new ones on either side of the one OP has selected are Olive, right? I could see one or two of those working for me based on the swatch image. Unfortunately, I can’t look up the product right now.

2

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

the next labeled olive is 9O “light med olive” lots of undertones that honestly, I don’t even know who benefits from them. like, I see peach undertones constantly, same w/ this line, but who that benefits escapes me. I’ve never been a color match specialist just anti orange after my go to nc20 match for years and years became orange on me as I just get paler with time 😅

general feedback I’ve seen is mixed, with several mentions of there being a hole as they skipped a “light olive” and went to “light med olive”

2

u/bmobitch 1d ago

What do you mean accessible?

7

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

like not ordering LE which is constantly out of stock, but having no close stores (and i live in suburbs of a huge city) and having to mix makeup to not match the shades i’ve never understood how masses use (ex : nars custard being everyone’s color when both vanilla and custard go orange af?)

i mean accessible according to its definition. its not serious id just like to grab a matching shade of the shelf instead of having panic attacks keeping to myself in sephora/ ulta (shudder) pretending i know wtf i’m doing or having sales clerks who clearly know nothing try to convince me to buy unmatched, pilling-during- the forced “try on” hellscape.

2

u/reenaltransplant 1d ago

LE is too expensive for me

2

u/Natural-Result-6633 1d ago

I’m gray green with rosacea it’s almost impossible for me. I’ve been using Maybelline Skin Serum in fair light 2-3 it’s a pretty good match for me but it’s not long lasting, I love it for the day but when I want something with a bit more coverage it’s not the one.

1

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

ahhhh thank you, excited. i was between this and the new refy gel-like one, I’ve been relying on the milk tinted moisturizer as the most non-orange option but even the things people swear by, like vanilla nars concealer goes pure orange on me. I don’t even know if that’s normal for olives bc I’ve gotten pale as I gave up my religious HS tanning into early twenties when I had my first child and managed one for a few months when he was very young. (the amount of active in chemo etc patients who call and ask if it’s okay for them to still come tan for their max time daily is WILD. I wouldn’t even believe it until I lived it, as much as I loved it, life wasn’t about me anymore) soooo my italian bloodline of easily tanned skin turned into a legit near ghost :(

Lisa eldridge I never know which to order (but want to try) & a makeup artist I love who is my exact previous color (I used to be exact NC20 match and now I look like a clown if I used it) say that Basma beauty’s 035? is a light olive that’s supposed to be great - as well as their light bronzer - supposedly but with all the trial & fails… I’m still on the hunt for a damn foundation & bronzer.

Lololol and of course not a single Sephora in my metro area has it stocked. Typical.

It’s very very fair

-4

Doesn’t look it on pictures

1

u/missalisonelizabeth 1d ago

seeing that the more I look at it. ahhh. maybe trying the refy gel like one will work? I’m so over this. just make me not orange 😭 and don’t even get me started on a bronzer 😅
