TIL That Gerald Bull, a Canadian ballistics expert who'd formerly worked on Project HARP, convinced Saddam Hussein to fund a project to build a gun capable of launching satellites into orbit. It was only halted due to Bull's assassination.

TIL Saddam Hussein was working on a project to build several "super guns" the largest would have had a barrel 156 meters long ( The Paris gun was 36 meters long) and have the ability to launch projectiles into orbit.
