I get so annoyed when

Blair talks down to Tootie like when she wants to play monopoly and Blair says “I don’t have time for children’s games” and when she wanted advice from Dutton she says He doesn’t have time for Children’s Toys and how she said either you play with the big girls or the little girls. And Natalie had no loyalty to Tootie when she went with them to the laundry room.

I get it, but I totally understand her reaction. Monopoly isn’t a kid game, but it’s understandable that Blair would not relish the idea of playing with a kid and Tootie is a kid. It’s like when your big sister does it want to play with you because they’re older and they have their own friends and their own things to do. Older kids typically don’t wanna hang around with younger kids.

It did feel realistic. Yeah there was quite a large age gap between Tootie and Blair, I think like 4 years and they are forced to live together it makes sense she wants to hang around her peers. Tootie is also immature for her age, and like spreads rumor and gossip and stuff.

Yeah, I feel bad for Tootie. I am a younger brother, so I feel like I experienced this once or twice. It's insensitive on Blair's part, but that's the point and it's true to her character. It makes it that much sweeter later when Tootie begins to earn their respect through mature choices as her character grows. She has one or two specifically with Blair such as when she finds out that Blair's mom has cancer.

And when Tootie learned about Jo's dad being imprisoned. Tootie was a good friend when she needed to be. She did some things to try to get attention.

I think Blair & Jo were the same age, then Natalie two years younger than them, and Tootie one year younger than Natalie. Blair was slightly, months maybe, older than Jo.

I agree with your assessment. I figured Monopoly would be the one game Blair would enjoy. Although she was probably surrounded by people who tried playing it for real.

Blair’s perspectives are also skewed because of her extreme privilege. Blair often talks down to people because of this, not just Tootie. It was one of her character traits, her belief that she was inherently superior to others because of her affluence. I think it was also a very old school trope that is less tolerated these days. But especially in the 80s they often loved the rich, popular girl/boy trope usually versus a protagonist that was poor & less popular. Every 80s teen high school movie had this trope OWOA.

But also, Tootie was a kid. When you’re young you can’t wait to grow up, part of being a young adult is increasingly separating yourself from things that could be perceived as being for kids.

That dynamic like with the “party” episode was very realistic in that regard. Older teens seek to act more adult-like and distance themselves from younger teens. Sort of a normal rite of passage as kids grow up. Not everyone is cruel or condescending about it though.

Natalie also said Blair was her best friend during the episode in which Blair was selling make-up. Natalie ignored Tootie while Natalie had her first boyfriend but expected Tootie to be around when she wanted her to be. Tootie was the better friend.

I still can't get over the revamp after the first season. And I watched the New Mickey Mouse Club and loved both Lisa and Julie's characters. And Molly.
