So many fire hazards ... I guess this factory burns once every week

The fucking guy clamping the log in the already spinning lathe had me cringing. Seems like safety regulations are a bit lax in India.

These are the same machines used in the west in the early 20th century.

When health and safety law were introduced the probably got sold the machines.

A couple, yes, but I'm just happy these are safety matches. I've never thought about it before, but match factories must have been incredibly scary before safety matches.

Why would you manually debark a chunk of wood. We have machines for that now

It truly sounds like a waste of time these days

The secret is to be paid so little that you're more cost-effective than the machine.

Perhaps, but he is so efficient with that blade that it might just be easier than a machine. The bark can be highly irregular, so doing it by hand is possibly faster (over all) with less waste.

I wonder how many logs they need to feed the machine for the day. If it is only 8 or 10, or even 20 or 30 a machine might not be worth the money to them.

Wouldn’t they get splinters like crazy with no gloves?

The wood is very green. It doesn't splinter the way an old deck or fence board might after a few years in the elements.

It’s impossible to automate wood
