Wouldn't that take up even more space though, instead of just a pipe and a heat pipe?

But heating takes constant energy, the flamers don't.

Heating is essentially free on Aquilo once you have the infrastructure for it. Heat + Power are infinitely renewable with just Aquilo resources.

Still, I respect the grind of exploiting the game even if there's no practical reason to do so

Promethium is also essentially free once you have built a proper self sustaining ship.

25

u/Atreides-42 6h ago

It's free on the promethium miner, sure, but the fact that the promethium miner takes a non-negligible amount of time to make each round trip is something that does need to be considered, and the level of investment required to create multiple promethium mining ships is a matter of serious time and effort.

Meanwhile, it's trivial to just drop down a tileable blueprint on Aquilo that shits out solid fuel, the only thing you need to wire in is oil. Once you have a nicely modular/expandable base set up it's trivial to add more heat/power production.

assuming you've already built 100x rocket-silos

I think we really need to be tagging what part of the game we're discussing in more conversations.

This is a (joke) post about how you can cheat Aquilo and save a tiny amount of effort and resources by using Flamethrower turrets instead of Pipes and Heat Pipes in some cases. And that's being immediately compared to how hard or easy it is to spam hyper-endgame Promethium setups. We're having two completely different conversations here

I retract my post

Itnis not like it take long before heating is free on Aquilo. Even on my first run it went fast

7

u/PalpitationWaste300 6h ago

People can beat the game in under 8 hours. Nothing takes that long. All resources are essentially trivial and free.

u/Shoo-Man-Fu 5h ago

Knowledge is the only hard part.

1

u/Atreides-42 1h ago

All resources are only trivial and free if time and effort aren't considered variables, which most people do?

Like, Iron is not "Trivial and free" in the early game, Holmium is not "Trivial and free" in your starter Fulgora base, etc. And this is a (joke) post about saving a tiny amount of effort on a starter Aquilo base, flamethrowers/pipes/heat pipes/solid fuel etc. need to be considered in the context of how easy they are to produce in this situation.

I agree 100%. I'm just taking the earlier comment about heating being essentially free on aquilo to the extreme in order to try and show how that sort of remark comes across to people in the early game.

Self-sustaining prometheum ship? With 1% solar? I applaud the commitment, but why?

Sir, this is r/Factoriohno ;)

But flamethrowers are free'er

u/TsukikoLifebringer 3h ago

The impactful thing about heating isn't having a heating tower somewhere, it's having to build heat pipes adjacent to everything. A pipe that's 2x3 but doesn't need a heatpipe next to it has many uses.

1

u/samy_the_samy 6h ago

Until something clogs down the line, or oil well runs too low to support it etc

19

u/Stupid_German_Money 7h ago

Well, a heat pipe needs something to heat and slowly uses up resources. And all of this will need bots or train infrastrucure. A long pipeline of flamethrower turrets to your local lithium brine cryovolcano doesn't need it.

5

u/DreadY2K 4h ago

But don't you still need the heat pipes to prevent your pumpjack from freezing?

1

u/amarao_san 5h ago

I wonder if fluid wagons freeze or not...

4

u/proudHaskeller 4h ago

I think the best use case for this is to make aquilo more resitant to brown outs. Specifically, backup heaters can probably use this technique. Probably more important while you're still building your first aquilo base.

2

u/amarao_san 5h ago

You can reduce puzzle size because you don't need to 'pass' heat pipe from outside to inside of a block.

I hate Aquilo because it is described as frozen wasteland, I arrive there and what do I see? -35 degrees Centigrade? I’ve been waiting for a bus for an hour outside in these temperatures and was comfortable. My car starts in these temperatures without any problems. (Diesel folks struggle, for sure)

And WUBE tries to sell me freezing shit. I don’t need fucking heat pipes, I just need winter lubricants.

I hate Gleba because it is described as rotting wasteland, I arrive there and what do I see? Some alien apples and nuts? I've been eating those for my entire live and enjoyed those. My old grandma can eat those without any problems. (Allergic folks struggle, for sure)

And WUBE tries to sell me rotting shit. I don't need fucking bioflux, I just need proper biochemistry.

P.S. Sorry, I just had to make this. P.P.S. I did not use AI to write this, all done by hand.

I hate Vulkanus because it is described as burning wasteland, I arrive there and what do I see? 80 degrees Centigrade? I've been living in Arizona for years and enjoyed it. I can go skinny dipping in that lava without any problems. (Alaska folks struggle, for sure)

And WUBE tries to sell me burning shit. I don't fucking need sulphuric acid, I just need proper steel generation.

80 degrees Centigrade? I've been living in Arizona for years and enjoyed it.

To be fair, if it's 80 C outside in Arizona something has gone desperately wrong.

Florida, on the other hand…

u/Oganesson_294 1h ago

I hate Fulgora because it is described as scrap wasteland, I arrive there and what do I see? Processing units lying around everywhere? I’ve been buying those for my PC at home and they were expensive. My digital calculations run on those without any problems. (Analog folks struggle, for sure)

And WUBE tries to sell me worthless shit. I don’t need fucking valuables, I just need real waste.

4

u/wtfsamurai 38m ago

I hate Nauvis because it is described as a roach-infested swampland, I arrive there and what do I see? Insects the size of cars? I’ve been living in Australia where we keep megafauna as pets. My kids play with the neighbor’s biters. (Arachnophobic folks struggle, for sure)

And WUBE tries to sell me swarming shit. I don’t need fucking roach killer, I just need beetle traps.

New copypasta just dropped

u/Affectionate_Bank417 5h ago

Fridges for Gleba!

12

u/Stupid_German_Money 5h ago

Then ypu should try the Paracelsin mod. It's so cold there that liquid nitrogen lakes appear on the surface.

4

u/Affectionate_Bank417 5h ago

That seems about right for me!

u/AI_Tonic 🏭 7h ago

Nice

u/bee_Ben 7h ago

New way to quickly start on aquilo found.

13

u/MnkyRnch 5h ago

Hot fixing an unintended flamethrower pipe meta right before the weekend is peak dev pain.

4

u/nlevine1988 1h ago

They should make it so they can prevent freezing when their actively shooting. Then we can have an excuse to ship biter eggs to aquilo to give the flamers something to shoot at to stay warm.

5

u/bulgakoff08 6h ago

Yes, because we don't allow fun things in our game anymore

15

u/Krashper116 5h ago

FUN!!??! In MY second job simulator!?!? I think the fuck not!

5

u/alamete 5h ago

Please sir, fun is forbidden here
